I was imagining you were going to go out to a truck stop and randomly loosen some lugs. But seriously, it would be interesting to see how it worked against some potentially rusted on nuts vs. a clean freshly torqued one.

I like the compactness of the Gen 2 Milwaukee, to me compact size is very desirable in a mid-torque impact. However impressive numbers/power from the Makita.

When opening nut, the reality is found at the far end of the graph, as non turning nut have no flex, like hydraulic measuring equipment have when pressure is rising. Meaning, every hammer hit is giving max torq blows when nut is not turning. So the graph should be looked at the opposite end first when opening bolts. imo

My downer with Makita Cordless Tools is how many times for my self and others on site we have come to a stop with smoke coming from them. I am no brand snob and have a number of brands tools but from my experience they tend to fail the most. Over the last few years we have noticed probably everyone with Makita to maybe three or four still using them.

It would be cool to see a dyno on the flexzilla high flow air line fittings compared to your standard size air fitting.

You mentioned the Milwaukee battery tech in the video and have done dyno vids comparing the high output to the 18650s. Did that small difference on the dyno translate to any real world performance on those lugs?

Test the Dewalt DCF891B Mid Torque claims fastening torque of 600 ft-lbs and Max breakaway torque of 800 ft-lbs against the Makita and Milwaukee Mid Torque Impact wrenches

I want you to take that makita out in the field n see how it does on a semi trailer with rusted studs from Michigan. If it can bust all 10 then I'll give it respect for it's ability on semi lugs

It might be worth doing longer runs for this reason. I only know how to read the graphs, not the scenarios and situations these tools would be used in. But it might be worth tweaking the graphs with longer runs to show more clearly how the wrench performs vs a specific bolt torque. I'd imagine the differential of the power vs the power itself might be a much better graph - users could just look along to the torque they encounter and see which is higher on the chart. Rather than a direct readout from the meter it would be showing how quickly a bolt is moved vs a specific torque. Possibly only useful in reverse, and doesn't as cleanly translate to a single number for the charts, but still far easier to understand and convert to the performance we see in this test (even for people who don't understand the maths behind the chart).

In the future, could you maybe match the graph line color and text to the color of tools being tested? Red for Milwaukee, Blue for Makita, dayglo green for Ryobi, Orange for Rigid, etc. And larger fonts on graph? Its difficult if not impossible to read the tiny text on a cell phone screen.

The other day I tried removing a 33mm lug nut with my 1/2 HF Earthquake XT, 3/8 hose high flow fittings. That gun struggled hard to remove the nuts. I was successful to get two though so there's that. Safe to say I won't be reaching for a "mid torque" to remove heavy duty lug nuts 😅

I would really like to see how Dewalt DCF894 would perform compared to those other big names.

@Torque Test Channel Can you explain the difference between the Makita XWT18Z and XWT18XVZ(pin detent models) ? They seem to have the same stats and are bare tools but the XVZ costs quite a bit more...

It seems wildly different than my experience with a 1/2" drive 18v impact wrench from Makita that I bought a month ago. Advertised 240 ft. lbs of loosening power. Tried it on my F-150 whose lugs are 150#, lightly never seized. Ran it for about two minutes and it just couldn't budge them. Got out the air gun and it spun them off without blinking. 1/2" drive Pittsburg long anvil. Tried them by hand with a 1/2" drive and they seemed about 150# worth of grunt. So why is mine so much different? This was the very first use with a fully charged six amp battery. I bought it because its little brother 1/4" impact has done a great job for me the past five years. Punching in 4" lag screws by the dozen on a single charge building my shop. Never a miss. Thousands of screws in the sheathing and purlins, boxed beam rafters, insulation, steel roofing and siding, the list goes on and on. Doesn't look like this 1/2" is going to be much use at all!

Good stuff, as always. Big fan. I just bought a NitroCat 1200K to help me undo a Honda/Acura V6 crank bolt so I can redo the cam belt and water pump. These are notorious for being very tight. It seemed like a good $$$/torque quotient and with a sturdy trigger and quiet exhaust. Wish me luck.

so the big 3/4" torque wrench tightened it to 500 ft lbs yet the impact was able to get it off no prob but on your machine and graph it produces nowheres near that much torque?

before i watch the video...i will say NO...BUT after watching the video, i am shocked ...although it is a brand new stud and nut, 500 foot pounds is good.....however as a truck mechanic for 25 years and all the lugs I took off over the years, this gun would NEVER take off the lugs on 90% of the rigs out there because 1) tire stores put their lugs on over 700+ foot pounds and 2) rusted studs and nuts make it hard for a 3/4" drive impact gun to get them off easily....i have seen tire shops put on lugs with 1" impact guns and after a few moths of rust, i have spent 10 minutes taking off lugs on ONE wheel....so back to the test, YES, it works on a new stud and nut but in the real world, it won't work 90% of the time

It is not a semi truck lug nut, just a 32 mm nut. You have to go to a truck stop and remove a lug nut, that is a test.

Torque on an F350 from the last decade is 165ft-lbs. 150 is for cone style lug nuts on an F-350, not steel nuts.

Driver vs. Drill Matters

I would bet $100 that the Makita XWT-14 compact 1/2" could remove that lug nut in less than 20 seconds with a 4 amp hour battery or higher.

You should test some kobalt stuff. I have the non xtr 1/2" and it seems to perform well. I think it's rated for 650 ft lbs which I feel is at least somewhat close.

I wanna see what torque this badboy can do with a 5Ah High Output Milwaukee battery strapped on. There's a test of a Makita XWT11 impact with that Milwaukee battery & the Makita is seems roughly 30% more powerful! Relevance? If the Makita mid torque can crack 600 lbs/ft it would well and truly render high torque impacts redundant for people working on standard light vehicles, aka most people. I think.... all 500ft pounds of tightening torque aren't necessarily the same. With a wheel, there is some "spring" in the wheel that should hold a little longer verses the flat plate. I may be wrong. So it would be neat to see an actual lug nut on a semi wheel setup for comparison.
