I haven't got the Blue, and I'll be honest, I haven't used the Pussers Gunpwder in so long, I completely forget about it. (i always use the Worthy 109 or Plantation OFTD instead of Pussers GP)

Good explanation on everything, personally I like a 2 to 4 rum hurricane. I used a Probitas/Veritas, Appleton 12, Plantation Stiggins Fancy, and Rum Fire. I use ½ oz per rum for a 2 oz spirit Hurricane. I also like to add ½ oz of Chinola.

My go-to drink when I'm feeling lazy is a Cuba Libre so this is a good idea.

If I recall correctly it was in the Pina Colada blind taste test that the Bounty rum won out.

I would love to have a fully stocked rum bar someday. Space and financial constraints limit me to three bottles at a time. Currently I have Appleton estate 8 year, Havana club 7 year, and white Bacardi. I find that by mixing them I can achieve most of what I need in cocktails.

My go-to is Hamilton 114, it's a blend of 60% guyana rum and 40% jamaican. Was my first time using a real high-proof rum in a cocktail and it was a game changer. I know a lot of people hype up the 151 and the 86, but for me the 114 is far and away Hamilton's best offering. $27 usd for a rum that IMO blows all over navy strength rums out of the water.

Hurricanes were my bottle kill for OFTD because it worked so well and an easier cocktail to drink vs just rum and coke

Hamilton 86 is my go-to for Hurricanes but I honestly cannot remember what other rums I have tried in it. I have 3 of your top 5 so this has inspired me to try them against the Hamilton.

Thank you for the video! Really nice to watch this as one of my wife's favorite is hurricane. Also I have/had like 8 rums out of those 13, so it's very interesting to see. I will try to get/order online bounty dark. I think I already have wrote it under some other video, but I guess this one kind of proves that 109 is more universal than select. I had similar situation doing cuba libre with select, that jamaican funk just overpowers the drink, so as you say, there for sure some people will still love it, but it's not for most people. Would you say there was a big difference between OFTD and original dark? As they ended up in same group.

Huge difference. ABV aside, they’re a different blend of Rums. And actually different Rums. Example the Jamaican Rum in the OD isn’t the same Jamaican Rum in the OFTD 👍

Great dive as always Steve. I did a blind tasting of hurricanes recently too and bounty was also my favourite. I had wp109 highish but In my notes I had to try again with reduced amount as i used a full double. How much did you use when adjusted down out of interest?

Pretty easy to balance adjust... but not exact. For example if you take a base spirit of 40% and use 15ml - which i did (I always do 15ml samples in Cocktail Tests). So on that basis, if a product was 80% you'd adjust to 7.5ml. Worthy 109 is 54.5%... now this is where it gets tricky... so i just thought of it as 55% and used 12.1ml. ( I have a syringe for this kinda stuff). For ref, the OFTD, i pretended was 70% not 69% and that got adjusted to 9.3ml instead of 15ml. The Fassionola & Citrus remains constant at 15ml per Cocktail. (60ml per 60ml Booze - recipe was 60ml Rum, 30ml Fassionola, 30ml Lemon/Lime).

Someone else commented on Pussers. basically... i fogot all about the Gunpowder proof as I never use it anymore as I prefer the Worthy 109. BUT... it has a similar (ish) profile to the Planteray OFTD if that helps.

Funk = High Ester...which is really hard to explain until you drink it. Once you know...you definitely know. Think kinda overripe Banana thats comes from longer Fermentation, different Yeast strains, and maybe Muck and Dunder. It's only really prevalent in Jamaican Rums. BUT NOT Appleton. Think Hampden, Worthy Park, Planteray Xaymaca, Rum Bar, Wray & Newphew, Smith & Cross.

More often than not 1:4 as I don't like a trong tasting Rum & Coke. If I want it strong...I just drink neat Rum.

Massively. As I say, it sells…or should I say “outsells” something like Appleton 12 by a few hundred thousand bottles to 1. It could be even close to Millions of bottles to 1. Appleton as a whole sell 1.1 ish million cases (12x750ml) a year…majority of that will be Signature. Bacardi sell 20+ million cases a year…majority being White. So in effect you’re looking at circa 15 million cases of Bacardi white vs a couple of hundred thousand of Appleton 12. Rum lovers always forget that. They like what they like which is brilliant. But you can never lose sight of what actually sells to the average Rum consumer. And what keeps the Rum industry alive. It’s Tanduay Gold, Bacardi Carta Blanca, Captain Morgan’s Spiced and Havana.
