Sharmen Kimbrough and Dr. Lenne’ Hunt of the Marriage Recovery Center are joined by the center’s Program Manager and Director of Operations for a Q&A on Separation - what is it, who needs it and how it can help or hurt a marriage. They address the most common questions and concerns that they hear from women, including ‘Don’t most separations end in divorce? How do I know if a separation is what my marriage needs? How do I broach the subject with my husband? What if a separation is not financially or logistically feasible, or I don’t want to put my children through that’ and other fears that keep many women feeling paralyzed and trapped in an emotionally abusive marriage.

Financial reasons and not having anywhere to go are the only reason I remained under the safe roof with my extremely emotionally abusive husband. If I had the means and another roof over my head, I would have left a long time ago.

20 minutes in Sharmen said "...that is him nailing his coffin shut.". That is exactly what I felt. That is what I needed to let go. I am so sad that this has no future but it doesn't because that is what he did. He actually threatened divorce our whole marriage over stupid stuff, told my parents he wanted to run away, and now refused to leave the house. So I did.

I just found this video and I have a question. What do you do if your husband constantly says that as born again believers, all situations are fixable? Divorce and separation are unbiblical. He also accuses of me not loving unconditional so that’s why our marriage is so bad. I get Scripture thrown at me all the time especially when it comes to sexual intimacy. I’m told it’s a command and it must be done no matter what. Please help!!

Loving unconditionally is not for a woman...you are to submit to a Loving husband ...the Bible tell the husbands to love their wives as Jesus loved and died for the church and then a wife to submit let him not manipulate you.unconditional love is his to do and he can't do it with submitting to Christ. It's hard to submit to a man who doesn't submit to God who is love.

I meant without submitting to Christ husbands should know wives will not find it easy to submit to husbands who can't die for then like Christ did for the curch

I'm committed to reconciliation. What an idiot i have been for 28 years. All the panelist hit so many markers. In my case, it might be too late. I wish I just listened to my wife, and God.. And had these tools years ago.. Pray for all the meat-head men like me that did not realize the harm they were causing. Man Up.. Man Up to God guys.. excellent content here.

Can you enlighten me, why do men get like this? The man I was going to marry became more controlling and got some kind of a power high off of my love, he ignored me and emotionally abused me and wanted me to stay quiet and wait for his every move. When I spoke up to defend myself and tell him how he was hurting me more and more as time went on, he would just punish me more and more with distance. And I finally broke the cycle. He was mad. And now wont talk to me at all. But that's okay because I told him he can't have me back until he becomes totally transformed. But he wasn't like this in the beginning! Over time he got worse and worse. It took me a good year just to realize I was being abused, and another year to end the cycle. Why do men get like this? I don't understand!?!?!

Hi, not even with help from psychiatrist could we manage to talk to each other. It's gone on to long for reconciliation. I want to leave but financially I'm stuck. I trust God to open some doors for me. Thankyou for your encouragement and Godly advice.

I have a question because a lot of the things they are describing are things I would do in my marriage. I will admit I was not emotionally mature enough before, but once my wife separated from me I started working on myself immediately to more patient, graceful and loving. At first I believe it was done to get my wife back, but I have continued after 5 months of separation and I truly believe I am doing it now to be the goldy husband I am called to be, and I am doing it so that I can be a better version of me. My wife still does not see this, and I don't discount her feelings anymore, but now I am just confused if I should keep praying and waiting that God will reconcile my marriage or if I just move on because my wife still believes we are better off separate. I love her and I am able to see a reconciled marriage that's stronger than before if my wife was to come back. I don't condemn her for the things she has done in separation and forgive her because I was no better during our marriage, so I would just appreciate anyones input on this from the female perspective of someone who was verbally abused.

Separation is good but don’t wait a year. To long , you grow apart and realize you don’t need them. Plus the pain you feel because they left you in the first place doesn’t help the matter. You feel they abandoned you. When they said for better or worse 😢

I believe separation is the only solution for a husband who can’t distance himself from his toxic, divisive and meddling Sisters who are destroying his marriage. His narcissistic , controlling mother and divisive 15:48 sisters even wished his wife called his wife DEVIL and even wished her DEAD. This controlling mother had married his favorite son to a daughter of a RICH family and her favorite daughter to the son ( a doctor)) of her boss. The wife was NEVER the mother’s choice. By Amelia
