suggestion: place some soft wood 2x4's over the concrete (grain in line with the attacker) and then Boromir over the wood. That will help keep your weapons from being mangled when they miss Boromir.

Spears are underrated in current media which is both a shame and ridiculous. Spears are my favourite weapon and have been a primary weapon of war until the inception of firearms such as the Flintlock. Which can have a bayonet attached so still implementing it as a polearm weapon 😮‍💨

It's the M48 Magnum. I have one myself and it's only weakness is the brass screw that holds it together. Easily fixed with epoxy. Been using extensively for a year without an issue. Does not have the black coat on the blade anymore i've used it so much. Edge is completely gone, which just needs to be sharpened, but it still throws and pierces fantastically. Only thing i'd change is making the head thinner.

The old Japanese martial art Saburi-ryu uses a spear with a 63 cm blade and a hook. The main attack is a slash, but the manual does not recommend slashing the skull with a spear with a blade over 30 cm in length because the blade is damaged. Is it impossible to strike a helmet or plate armor? The Kuroda kashin den describes Tomonobu Mori slashing across Ming and Yi Dynasty soldiers with the Nihon-go, a spear with a blade length of 79 cm, but did he avoid striking the helmet? (However, the neck part of the helmet is made of brigandine or scales, so could he have been slashing it?) Some of their armor has a mirror plate on the chest, but if cut here with a spear, the blade might break.

Absolute recommendation for "Seirei no Moribito" if you're looking for an anime - with a spear-wielding protagonist - that is not just gorgeous, and has great fights! but is also narratively rich. It's a fantasy story, but with a very historical Samurai/Ronin esthetic, slow-paced, detailed, poetic and believable. No super-power level-ups, just real sweat and blood, human tactics, wit, and death. Ok, I'll stop now.

7:30 min Nate throwing like that reminded me of something. If I remember correctly, it is said in the Legend of Cu Chulainn, that his legendary spear, the Gae Bolg, can only be "thrown" by gripping it between your first and second toe, so you throw it with your foot? Also, you could only throw it, while you're in the water. I'd be kinda interested, if this can actually be done, or if that is just a story.

If you swing hard enough and fast enough, anything can hack through anything.

I loved the video but I really feel like this one needs a retry. It would be really cool to see spears with longer blades and maybe some pole axe/halberd cutting action!

I long time ago when I learned to use swords and a lot of other weapons, that included using a sword and it's a scary weapon in combat. There's a reason why sword users created a special spear hunt move to combat spear users, without it, they would loose each time to a spear user, if they know how to properly fight a spear. In combat, it's almost too dangerous to use, if the goal is to fight without getting real damage, the same thing can be said for most other weapons use in reenactment and naked steel groups that keep the spirit of that type of combat alive. Simply put, you don't cut with a spear, but there are some cutting attacks that setup much more dangerous attacks, it's also a keep away type attack that spear user can use to keep up the distance, which is to their advantage. In a bigger fight or a shield line, the spear wounds more people that most other weapons and that causes chaos which allows for attacks of opportunity, A kill hit can be done too against the second line, which normally comes as a huge surprise unless you watch for it, and it's a pain to go up against as suddenly you can have up to 4 against 1 for a split second in a line. That's bloody rare though, so normally its more 2 va 1 or 3 vs 1 where one of the multiple attackers are using a spear, A good spear wielder can easily defeat and average sword user, unless that sword user know how to do the spear hunt attack. Of course the spear user has moved to counter the spear attack, but it's easy to miss the start of the spear hunt move, and if you do it's too late. I love sword, and I would gladly use a spear against any attackers, if there was a zombie hoard especially. But movement is critical.

ive been warring with myself with what I want my mc in my novel to wield. I keep rewriting with a spear...I want it to be an awesome weapon a MC uses but not quite sure. This helps a bit, appreciate it

Ya know, it doesn't LOOK it's moving that fast, but it has so much mass behind it compared to a throwing knife or arrow, it does an incredible amount of damage.

I figured you could cut but I always thought the edges were for glancing blows to turn into cuts... you have the metal and if your point glances off a hard point and you slide past a soft point.. hey it's free real-estate.
