I find that there is no comparison. A tube amp will always sound better, feel better, react more dynamically in the room and on stage. But through a PA the audience won't be able to tell the difference. Sometimes I use a Kemper live just because I don't have to deal with the sound engineer making me turn my amp down to where it becomes useless.

You are comparing a processed sound with a fullrange speakersystem and you have still your oldschool tube amp connecting to a guitarcabinet in your head. That won´t work. The question is: What do you expect from the Kemper? In my case i want to record guitar in a tiny room without cranking a 100W Marshall. This works excellent with a Kemper or any other digital device like Helix, Quad Cortex etc. ✌🏻

i dont know what is that speaker that you are using but it could be the reason you dont like the sound

Andy, how much do you think the speaker was affecting the sound? Not enough to have contributed towards the fizz you could hear?

Possibly quite a bit. I’ve been told that using the powered version with a proper guitar cab yields better results but having heard it myself in the flesh I wasn’t convinced. So far every time I’ve heard one of these played in the room it sounds over processed and muted compared to the openness of a proper tube amp.

@@DogsharkGPS Ah, right. Apparently, the Neural DSP Quadcortex is better than the Kemper. I mean, I think that they've been out for ten years now? Something like that, so modelling has moved on a fair bit. As someone who uses the Neural DSP plug ins, I've witnessed the way they've improved just over the last 3 years. They're much, much closer now, so I assume that the Amp Modellers are, too. There is still something organic, and untameable about a proper amp, though.

@@benjaminmorrismusic I’ve no doubt you’re right. I’ve also used far better sounding software plugins than this thing. I use BiasFX quite a bit for recording and messing around at night when I need to be quiet and always get a sound I like. But as old as the Kemper is it’s still highly regarded enough for me to take a stab at. Glad I did.

It doesn’t sound or feel great. The quad feels and sounds much better. Simple workflow. Tube amps first but I sold the Kemper and helix asap. Got the quad used. Customer service is great. The Kemper has a huge learning curve. The feel is not there it needs a pedal for feel and sound and constant tweaking. No a real Friedman does not sound like that. Oh fyi I used a powered Kemper with a real guitar cab. Still couldn’t stand the feel and sound. Like I said constant tweaking.
