NFL kickers might get more hate from fans than any other football players. But how hard is their job? Average guy Clay Skipper grew up hating on his beloved New York Jets' kickers, so we challenged him to master field goals and then go head to head with former Jets kicker, Chandler Catanzaro. With the help of Baltimore Ravens kicking legend Justin Tucker and kicking coach Luke Gaddis, does Clay have what it takes to beat an NFL kicker?
With GQ Sports, the real action is off the field. Get an all-access pass to the world's coolest, most stylish athletes with original series like My Essentials, Actually Me, My First Million, Game Points & More. Watch a GQ editor try his hand at pro sports in Above Average Joe. And get an all-access look into how athletes shop, train, travel, and showcase their love of style, menswear, and sneakers.

I love Justin Tucker’s mentality, when he talks about missing a field goal, he blames himself for it but when he talks about making one, he talks about the team making the field goal. Team mentality.

@@dougr8646 thats not entirely true, a bad snap, bad blocking or a bad hold can all effect the kick. Even if the kicker gets the kick off, any one of those things can all make the attempt sail wide or get off the proper rotation. So clearly not stupid to praise your teammates when they do their job properly, allowing you to do as well.

I agree with everything Justin Tucker mentioned about the mechanics of kicking as I've been there myself; in fact, there could be an essay or even entire sporting course on the subject of kicking mechanics. However, as all us Kickers know, it's not so much about "thinking" about those mechanics as it is merely doing/making the adjustments in body approach, momentum, swinging motions, contact, angle of kick, weather/wind conditions, and agility combined with leg strength meeting the ball to put it through the uprights...things like that.

I'd have to jog all the way off the field, a crossed the track to the gate and go a crossed the street to fetch the ball when practicing alone. Lol. It was jr. high and I was hitting 30 yarders. Too bad I got hurt. Healed up and did ok, then I just had to hit one more. Threw it out again and it was over. But anyway, hats off to ANY kicker. It is hard.
