Awesome clip, Dave. I’ve tried some guitar effects on bass and they were fun to experiment with. I once tried a metal zone on bass and I think it sounds killer. Though not ideal for bass, but it is fun to play around with. Now I got a darkglass microtubes x7 and a source audio aftershock. Both phenomenal bass distortion pedals

Oh nice! I don't own either but I seen videos and love the tone from both of those. When they dropped the Waza craft metal zone pedals I was curious what those would be like on bass, but I haven't tried one yet. one of these day. Thanks for the comment!

@@GettinBetterWithDave sure thing…metal distortion pedals are fun to experiment with. if you haven’t tried this pedal yet, I would recommend the source audio aftershock bass distortion pedal. You can get a variety of drives for bass and best of all, they have an app where you can create any drive tones of your choosing without obliterating lows.

Recently been using a Boss DS1 as ultra dist, it does cut lows but with eq around 3\4 o'clock you get them kinda back. But you need to push dirt up to 10 so it squashes pretty nicely for metal sound. OCD is great one too for dirting it up albeit not as bright.

I’m not picking a favorite but I will pimp out my friends pedal because I miss the guy and he was awesome as well as a real talent. Paul raven shortly before he died worked on a project with pro tone to design a pedal that is the raven dirty chorus. It was actually my first real bass pedal. I still have it. I’d rather have raven back, I miss the laughs and all, but it’s nice to have something he wanted to use in my chain.

What would be the signal chain when using a preamp direct? Would it be effects infront of the preamp and preamp into mixer? So basa, effects, preamp micer? Loved the video 😁
@GettinBetterWithDave
@GettinBetterWithDave 9 ай бұрын
I usually go Bass/tuner/comp/dirt/preamp/xlr out to mixer. I prefer the sound of dirt into a preamp, I haven't liked the sound of a dirt pedal on its own or after a pre. The later a pedal is in your chain the more of an effect it will have on your sound. (typically)

@@GettinBetterWithDave for bass I'll either use a Peavey mark 8 or an ampeg b2 for smaller gigs with a combination of Peavey and ampeg 410 or 115 cabs and then I use a way huge swollen pickle fuzz and a music lady chorus pedal and for guitar I got a fender 65 twin reverb reissue that I pair with a fender frontman 212r or a sunn alpha lead combo with a mod box to go out to a Yamaha cab with various celestion speakers in it.also got a Peavey vintage 410 combo and a modded line 6 flextone turned into a head and a raven head with a behringer cab I got to sell to a friend who never picked it up.i got a bunch of different little amps that either work or need some work and I don't play shows very often so I kinda need to get rid of alot of redundant stuff I don't need.i mainly buy a ton of pedals to get different crazy sounds now a days and plan to start building em some day when I get my head outta my ass and just try it out I've learned a lot more than alot of people who build great stuff today before they started making killer products I have tons of cool ideas I just need to get off my ass and try to make it a reality

@@GettinBetterWithDave that's the thing. lol I don't play bass, or even have a bass, but I occasionally imitate it, by using a sub~octave pedal. Very good point about sonic experimentation; often leads to a great outcome 80% of the time! I am more of a synth guy, who just hopes pedals can track the full~spectrum of frequency ranges

Bro! That's awesome! I used to play bass in a synth pop-rock and I'd run a soft-synth keys rig through my bass amp and it was magical. I do agree that bass sounds better through at least a preamp and if an actual amp makes sense for you great. But I sold my Mesa Boogie rig after playing venues for months with in-ear monitors and FOH just wanting a line out. The rig, as glorious as it was didn't make sense at the places I was playing.
