I’m Christian, used to smoke weed and it really affected my walk with God. Instead of turning to Him in times of anxiousness, sleeplessness and such I turned to weed. Now I lean on him at all times.

My take. I used to smoke everyday. Recently I have reconnected my faith with Jesus and have been reading the Bible and what not. At the start of reconnecting, i was still smoking everyday. But something inside didn't feel right. I would go smoke, and then when i had time, i would pick up my Bible and start reading, but something inside was telling me i shouldn't be high while reading the Lords word. The Holy Spirit was convicting me, every time i would start reading while high. I stopped smoking after that and have been sober for almost a year.

My story with weed. Read if you want. Smoked from when I was around 10, started with my dad's 'puff' we call it in the UK (you may know it as resin) I used to steal from his tobacco pouch. Was picking up cigarette butts off the floor into a tobacco bag to get enough to mix with the puff. Moved onto weed at around 12 and then I tried my first joint of 'purple haze' when I was about 13/14, this is where I really got hooked. Smoked alot from then until I was 22 (had a stint where I gave up in there somewhere) but whilst I smoked, I still ate fairly well and kept fit with gym and kickboxing etc. It all came to a head in Christmas 2012. I had bought a half ounce for the Christmas period and smoked with a few pals but on actual Christmas day, I was so lonely. My bedroom was the loft room and I have a big family. All my family were downstairs, probably 20 of them. I could hear the festive cheer and laughter and that but I had crippling anxiety. I knew something was wrong with my mental state so i cried. It was almost a realisation that I had gotten to a bad place with this habit of mine. I'd sit on my own smoking playing my Xbox knowing I should be doing something with my life. I had no trouble getting girls and I had a fairly good trade in construction but this was my main issue. I smoked the rest of my half ounce and on New year's day 2013 I went outside my house to the public bin and threw everything I had away, all my bongs, boxes and any paraphernalia I had. I went to Navy basic training 9 months later and embraced my Christian journey around 2018/2019. I'm out the navy now and have had weed on my mind as I can now smoke it without repercussion but if I had it again, I would be letting myself down. George, if you read this, stop my brother, you don't need it in your life. Sure you will miss it, miss it ALOT but life will be better for it and your mind will be alot clearer. I'm still yet to be baptised but I'm waiting for the right time, praying Christ will give me the sign.

I was convicted of my weed smoking by christ. The Bible says be sober minded. That’s the opposite of being high, stoned, drunk, and anything in between.

I used to smoke five king size joints a day. I prayed to the holy spirit to take my urge away for marijuana among other things. One day I met these senior citizens who was smoking out of a dry herb vaporizer. They told me this is a game change.We're gonna smoke til we're 90. 😂 They let me try it. It like I was smoking air but it did the job. Two weeks later I decided to buy one. From 5-6 joints a day all day everyday. To taking two or three hits out of this vaporizer a day, and now only at night. I think I'm coming closer to giving it up. For 1 thing I don't care to do it all the time as much as I used to, Who knows?Maybe I'll give it up all altogether one day. But the truth is, always stays sober mind and body. Never go past that point.

The word Sorcery used in the New Testament (as an example of sin) is the SAME GREEK WORD for Drugs. Weed is a drug and alters our minds so that we are not "be[ing] sober minded." Weed is a sin and disconnects us from God and opens us up to the devil's schemes. "Be sober-minded; be watchful. I was an alcoholic and started smoking weed and because I was in that mindset I was able to focus my thoughts and that’s how I found my path back to Jesus. I don’t need to smoke but it was a helpful tool to pull me out of my old habitual thinking. Now my faith in God is only growing stronger without weed.

Okay so i was an agnostic at best, believed in the universe and higher conscieouness interconnecting us all. As well as new age beliefs - christ consciousness, buddhism, reincarnation, astrology, and was dipping my toe into paganism, wicca, and tarot, the satanic bible was even bevoming aluring... i was also very sexually immoral and just a wretch. I also used psilosybin and lsd to attemtp to deal with wounds from childhood. One day i took psilocybin and was crying on the floor, grieving the hurts from my childhood (major trauma) and started thinking about how there's no way that a human brain would take a traumatic event from chilchood, box it away until you're an adult, and then dumping it all out for you to deal with at an age you can handle it more (ptsd), theres no way it developed from evolution. How .. then i thought, no love put that there... Then i was "overcome by some force or presence" at first my new age pagan mind thought "oh its the spirit of the mushroom" 😂😅 but then I felt it more intensely. I didnt see or hear anything but i became acutely aware i was in the presence of God. i fell to my face and wept for all the sins i had committed against him. Then he idk... flashed the bible before my mind, and for a split second i understood it all. But then it was taken away from me. Then i was made acutely aware that we are living in the last days. This was September 2017. It shook me to my core, left me so unsettled. I became a believer. Its been a process to unlearn a lot of lies and misconceptions - i was also raised JW so my understanding was kind of there broadly speaking, but i was missing a lot of the basics like the Trinity and the cross. But through God's good grace hes continued to guide me and reveal himself more to me. I wasnt really seeking him tho.. i wasnt looking for that experience when it happened. I was searching for truth though. Remonds of the scripture Isaiah 65:1 “I revealed Myself to those who did not ask for Me; I was found by those who did not seek Me. To a nation that did not call My name, I said, ‘Here I am! Here I am!’

As someone who has unfortunately been addicted to marijuana since before I have fully accepted Christ as my Lord, this makes me sad that people actually believe it's okay to smoke. It's disgusting, it's awful, and I hate that this is a sin I have been struggling with for far much longer than I wish to admit. Smoking weed is a sin.

I feel like some points were missed here, (or not elaborated enough) 1. George is relying on weed for his anxiety, not God. As somebody who suffers from anxiety myself / suffered, once I turned to God He took that burden off my shoulders. I mean anxiety to the point I physically could not bring myself to eat, where I was vomiting out of fear, where I tried to keep my mind distracted with entertainment to not focus on the pain eating at me. I was chasing after the wrong things. 2. If you're struggling with anything, such as in George's case, focus. Pray. I went through the exact same thing of having trouble speaking to God or reading the Bible, they didn't interest me at the time. Set a schedule, ask God for help and guidance, He is much stronger than you are. Acknowledge that and show Him your weakness, ask for His wisdom. 3. If you don't know, don't do it. If you look to a berry bush without knowing whether the fruit it bears is poison, do not consume it. Why risk the same thing of sinning against God? Ask God for alternatives if you do not know, you just need to reach out halfway for His help. 4. For the sugar example with Cliffe, never rely on those around you. You're not following the crowd, you're following Christ. It's been proven time and time again men (mankind) are liars and unreliable. We're all sinners. Not dissing Cliffe! I'm really glad that he was extremely open and honest and asking these questions. I agree that it is the amount that becomes the problem and if it becomes a crutch (idol) or to the point of drunkenness. I definitely think this goes to the personal conviction verse of the Bible.

I understand the aspect of smoking but what about doing edibles instead ?

Weed helps me get past a part of my brain 🧠 I can’t access without it . Weed takes me closer to God. I understand more it helps me feel . I feel the deepest of the Lord’s Prayer and the Bible that I don’t when I’m not high . I’m struggling with this. Idk 🤷🏻‍♂️ it helps me journal which has helped a ton with my mental health . I tried to only use it productively not sit around and watch Netflix .

I'm pretty new to this whole "religious" or "spiritual stuff", but I've always had morals that align with teachings to begin with so recently it's been given more thought. One thing I am curious about, is the fact that it's not the matter of smoking weed, but moreso focused on your intake and how you use it. Been smoking since I was 12 and was a super heavy smoker in my teens, now that I am older I (can) only smoke 1-2 bowls a day. I only smoke at night, and once I know all my responsibilities are paid their dues. TLDR, is it the act of smoking weed? Or is it the principle of how you use it?

Also, what about people who experience god while on drugs such as marijuana or shrooms? I know some people who established their connection with god while high on these substances. For example, one of my philosophy professors didn't even believe in Jesus until one day on one of his trips, he saw him. He told us that Jesus held him in his arms and all he could feel was love. That was a life changing experience that led him to Christ, so it's hard to say if it's a good or bad thing.

Have beent here and asked those same questions. I'm blessed to not have an easy supply so the temptation is mostly removed....if you are asking the question, you know deep down.

Can I point something out George? Your struggle seems to be more than just a question of “should I or shouldn’t I.” It seems to me, if it is that big of a struggle to not do it, it isn’t just a “way to unwind” anymore and has gone past that to idolatry or an addiction. I know because I was in the same boat just last year. Let’s remember that Jesus is the Prince of Peace. What I am going to write is from a place of love and gratitude to our Lord so please take it as such. I wrestled with the same temptation for years and so used the same reasoning. I literally said, “I am the closest to God when I get high.” Looking back, I now know that was a lie from the pit of Hell meant to keep me away from a true relationship with Jesus. The day I had a true encounter with Jesus is the day I was set free from using alcohol and weed as a crutch, and from my addiction to pornography. The fact that I was delivered from that bondage tells me it isn’t of God. That being said, a lot of comments have touched on being sober minded. This is absolutely important and why I haven’t been buzzed/drunk or smoked weed since my salvation in Jesus. You said many times that you can’t calm down at the end of the day and that you have anxiety so it chills you out. I’m reminded of II Timothy 1:7 where it says “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power of love and of a sound mind.” If you need to unwind, try going into your room, shutting the door, and, I know this will be difficult, just wait on the Lord. Surrender any feelings of anxiety, sleeplessness, fear, stress, doubt, worry, etc to Him and rest in His peace. The peace that surpasses all understanding. Ask the Holy Spirit to anoint you with a fresh fire and a renewed mind. Ask the Holy Spirit to get you to the place where you can rest and relax. He will do those things for you. You just have to ask. All we need is Jesus my man. I pray that you will find peace in Him and will be used mightily for His kingdom. God bless you man.

It is about not giving the flesh what it wants. Just as we like thinking bad thoughts and entertaining our flesh with it, so it is for weed, it is for the flesh. I am not judging, I use to love weed. Gave it up for the Lord.

Pray that God will convict you if there's something in your life that shouldn't be. He will let you know. You have to mean it and you have to be willing to obey. That's the caveat.

If the Lord is bothering you, you shouldn't be doing it. If it's a medical thing... ask Jesus for help. If it's anxiety... ask Jesus for help. Your body is a temple.
