Area of a 3" cylinder is a little over 7 sq. in. 7 times 120 psi equals 840 lbs of force. Should be WAY more than enough to crush a Foster's can!!

Hey you maybe right Sierra Specialty Auto ,, but getting of that im from Australia and Fosters Lager wasnt a bad Beer very popular here FOR DECADES as its originaly brewed and made here in OZ . what ruined it was its popularity with the Poms , so they bought the name rights and effed up its popularity with us Aussies it went all YUPPY . It was brewed By Carlton and united Breweries Who are still going since 1854 as they make other Beers and im Pretty sure its now Brewed in England.

Man, Its a good thing you and I don't live next door to each other. First of all, 81 pounds of cans would happen a lot quicker, and I'd talk you into a continuous magazine feed and high power launcher for the crushed cans. Imagine how much fun it would be showering your neighbor with 1600 crushed cans when his dogs starts barking. Stay well buddy. I liked this video.

Congrats on this build! I'm just now getting into DIY pneumatic can crusher builds & this one (by a huge margin) is the best one I've seen. Simple yet strongly made. Clean, compact design. Material was a little overkill especially with the soft end & return cylinder (could have used your original piece but now you have one your great great great grandkids will enjoy, bravo). The ONLY thing I would change is the actuator. I'd install a foot actuating pedal to keep both hands free. Sweet build, Ray! Having the RIGHT tools helps. Most DIY'ers won't have a Plasma or a TIG...let alone BOTH.

If safety is a concern, the controls for this can crusher could be modified to require both hands to actuate the ram. This is commonly done with industrial hydraulic presses. With the operator having to place a hand on each of two control buttons or levers, it ensures that his hands aren't anywhere near a crush zone.
