Rapid economic growth in Guyana, linked to a nascent oil and gas industry, has brought both bounty and concern to the small South-American nation. As Guyana harnesses new petroleum wealth and manages spinoff developments onshore, productivity in some sectors is constrained by labour shortages. That is, there aren’t enough workers all of the time. The News Room’s Vishani Ragobeer explores some of Guyana’s labour needs and how those needs are being met. Ultimately, the question is: Can Guyana find the thousands of workers it needs?

Check the prisons and. You,ll see where the young people are,in jail for robbing people, they don’t want to work.

This had nothing to do with pay I will tell you from experience when guyanese workers drink their rum on weekends they don't turn up for work on Mondays so it's best to import workers

These contractors need workers in guyana but do they actually realize the cost for living in guyana I feel if they pay a fair amount of monies to a worker to combat cost of living and for the worker to make a profit they will get workers right now everybody wants the extra dollar when they bring them foreigners they pay them far more than Guyanese. It is sad because a country like guyana which is booming presently because of oil resources the leaders and the contracting employers should realize tht the ppl of this land are important and they come first so make the ppl them a proper offer n they will get workers one people one nation one destiny I love my country guyana

T u don't have any idea what nonsense u talking u pass by the rum shop 9 am in the morning young men drinking beer and rum where they getting the money from cause for sure they not working they the Guyanese want big money and don't want to work for it and comes to work when they feels like I say bring in workers from other countries

Guyana have to do what Dubai did,import labour's. Lots of development and not enough workers to facilitate their needs.

Yes everyone say that no one want to work but u can pay a man 3000 or 5000 now a days ok now a day work man are working for 6000 or more ok that wat am see in guyana ok

Like Arab states don't import other Arab labour and prefer to import Asian labour because of politics, Guyana will not import Venezuelans or Brazilians.
