Today I challenged myself to beat Pokémon HeartGold in a Hardcore Nuzlocke Challenge. As a kid, the Pokémon Adventures manga was my favorite book to borrow from the library. I decided to challenge myself by completing Pokémon HeartGold using Crystal's team from her adventures, but in a Hardcore Nuzlocke Challenge.

The real issue with what he said is that all Jhoto starters at any level can learn the swords dance TM and in general 4 all learn a decent physical attack, Razor Leaf for Bayleaf, Bite for Croconaw, and Flame wheel for Quilava

The chikorita line is a fine line. It just got screwed on the generation it got introduced. I like using it in non jhoto runs.

Very nice! I wasn't sure about this take instead of the catching one, but it turned out nicely! On the next runs, I would recommend to set the level caps a little lower, like the last Elite 4 member's ace instead of the champion, cause it makes the E4 a little too easy, specially in these gen 2 games/remakes. Looking forward for the next one!

Although gotta be honest I never knew Meganium could learn swords dance but that is a very useful strategy to consider! Either way love to that family makes me happy!

I'm surprised you didn't catch Suicune for the fight with Red, since Crys had that for a little while. Also, you can't breed two Jynx! They're 100% female! That aside, the Adventures manga is a lot of fun. The only thing that makes me sad is that everything after Unova is so rushed in order to keep up with GameFreak's new release schedule. The regions don't have time to breathe anymore because the manga has to start, climax, and conclude within a specific timeframe.

I actually didn't know that about Silver's levels being lower in the fight during the Team Rocket takeover if he has Feraligatr. That's... interesting, lol! I decided to look it up after you mentioned it, and Lance's level 50 Dragonite always has a Sassy nature, which does boost special defense. (Red's Venusaur also has a Sassy nature, LMAO; would you believe that?)

You’ve definitely improved my opinion of meganium, but I’m still a cyndaquill user all the way. Ash’s irritating Bayleef kinda ruined chikorita for me. Plus I’m that guy that just always uses the fire starter so therefore, cyndaquill is the best for me. Great video at the end of the day tho!

the fire starter is superior to the grass starter in most games but especially in johto the fire starter ive never had an issue using cyndaquill against whitney, all you need is good speed, and either roll out or hit super hard with a charcoal boosted flame wheel, eventually thunder punch can cover the water weakness

"Catch two Jynx and breed them so they can hatch baby Smoochum?" Jynx is a female only Pokémon. Jynx can only breed with compatible male Pokémon or Ditto.

A random conpect I came up with that I decided to share here MissingNo attaches to a radom NPC and manages to glitch into modern gens bring shadow Pokemon with it hidden as shinies and takes advantage of game freaks laziness, torment whoever get the random roll and glitch 😅

Why on attempt #7, when looking for a Growlithe, the one you got had a Pokeball close to his name during battle? Isn't that supposed to happen only if you already had that Pokemon? And isn't one of the nuzlocke rules to catch only the first Pokemon of an area? Got confused about that

No worries! I probably should've explained it more in the video. I was streaming those attempts, and since it was all RNG if we would flee or catch the Growlithe, we saved after Chikorita and "reset" over the attempt so I didn't have to re-do all the changes to the rival's starter. So the Growlithe from Attempt #6 is why there was the Pokeball icon. I should've completely reset instead of releasing Growlithe #6. Starting on Attempt #8, I did a complete reset to make sure all future runs were completely legit (aside from the "glitch" to get Growlithe/Tyrogue)

Honestly if you could start with egg moves then Chikarita is in my honest opinion the best starter in gen 2 (original games especially). Sword Dance, Earthquake and Ancient Power (all free come from Maworak). This makes the early game trivial and by the time it should struggle it has enough bulk to boost, tank and then sweep. I think they gave it these egg moves to help with it's early game but forget that you can't breed until after the 2 gyms it struggles with. I do think it should have been given Ancient power at level 13, like they gave charmander metal claw to help against brook. But since you can catch 2 rock types before falkner they likely didn't see the need to.

i guess i'll be the nerd and go "uhn, actually" you can't breed 2 jynx because they are all female. i mean, they can try, but no baby will be made without a compatible male or ditto in these games
