Absolutely. The og ranger run was by far my favorite. The meme was used so often one would think it became annoying, yet it was funnier every time.

Every time I go and make some private custom classes I always end up making a class like these guys. They're just a perfect example of what I am looking for in an XCOM class. They're simplistic but powerful.

Overwatch LW ranger build is definitely a bit of a sleeper OP, especially in regular wotc environment where there's no lw2 problem of every late game enemy acquiring lightning reflexes perk. Rapid reaction is insanely powerful. I've seen 2 LW rangers in pair wiping the floor out with advent by using this perk. Wait till you get to the specialists though, they're so much better in LW, and building overwatch on them is also crazy good, because iirc they're guaranteed a second overwatch shot from the first perk in the overwatch tree

Found your channel pretty recently (Within the past two weeks) and while I've not been able to catch a stream, your vids have single-handedly revived my love for XCOM 2 again. I'm almost through with my first Commander playthrough, and it's been a blast with a lot of ups and downs. Can't wait to see what video you put out next!

Cool! LW2 Rangers are so much better than their vanilla counterparts. It always frustrated me that I had to choose between building them as stealthy scouts or damage dealing assaults in vanilla XCOM2. LW2 did away with that silly concept and split them into separate classes, that being the shinobi ninja and the assault class, whereas rangers are now medium range overwatch monsters. This not only makes more sense thematically, it also adds much more depth to the game and makes for interesting tactical play. Looking forward to your LW2 playthroughs, Drifter!

The sawn off shotgun looks to be a reference to Long War 1 which was a craftable weapon in that game, the drop-off was steep, it had only one bullet but the damage was incredible and you could reload it as it replaced your pistol. Although I never managed to make it work in-game no matter how much I messed with the files. It's a pretty fun detail to see a reference like that. (Sawn off only challenge when lmao?)

Best weapon for cov ops, hands down. Having your operative able to delete a single EXALT trooper is a Big Deal.

@@propyne5460 While the sawn off on my end was bugged and it wouldn't work. I could see why that would be a great choice... However, wouldn't it be too dangerous for a covert op? I mean, you only have one shot, reloading takes away your entire turn in Long War without skills and the distance is so steep you need to be in the enemy's face to have a good chance at it.

@@mat8791Right, sure, but the alternative is a pistol that can't kill *anything* without the rest of the crew softening them up first. And you're limited to a four-man for covert extraction. The sawn-off does the same damage as the plasma autopistol, which you won't get until EXALT is dead.

23:30 there is a mod that lets you use a dying soldier's medkit to save them, maybe have it as one of your regular mods to prevent silly bleed outs like this one seeing as how you had still thought to bring a medkit :D

I've got one stupid idea for a challenge run, Drifter: You have access to non-modded classes, but your squad slots use an RNG generator to determine which class can be taken in that slot. If you don't have the class available for that mission: it gets left empty OR! must be filled with a Rookie. Some missions might wind up hilariously easy, while some suddenly become virtually impossible because of how random your squad might be. With that out of the way... Naofumi's probably gonna be pissed to hear that Trash managed to get away.

@@TheDriftersBroadcast It is your show, so you get to decide how you get to roll for your playthrough. Having enough of each class to fill the randomized role quota idea could be a real challenge strategically. You might have to choose one slot to only roll on hero units (Reaper, skirmisher, Psion) to make it a little easier.

I was playing Modded XCOM 2 a bit ago and the Assassin was constantly getting bullied by one of my FC members from FF14 (just named after them). They would run up to her, fire both barrels into her while she had Brittle and would deal about 30 damage early on, closer to 50 by the stronghold. That sawed off shottie is disgusting.

LW2 rangers are an interesting class. So much power, yet held back by a glaring weakness. At least they're not armed with only bullpups like skirmishers, rifles do have decent enough range for just standing still and taking shots.

1:08:17 Ok, I wasn't going to mention say, and then it literally happened. There is a bug in Xcom 2. The reason why I don't pick Guardian. Multiple Overwatches from guardian can literally lock the game. So you risk situation such as these. The game on occasion has also gone into ultra slow mode, but I can't remember what caused it. Good thing you mentioned saving before the mission. Xcom things.

I could not help but genuinely laugh out loud at Lazy getting a repeater proc on the Avatar, then going to town on the rest of the pod. Two new legends might be coming onto the scene between Lazy's rampage of '24 and Sally's hitting that 28% shot on the purifier. Jumping Jehosaphat, though, Drifter! How on earth did you survive so long without a mimic beacon? You must have kept a paper bag by your desk to help with anxiety-induced hyperventilation at every mission.

Quite a good unit for close range but since I use the RPG overhaul mod, I rarely use the sawed off shot guns as secondary weapon and their ability tree that specializes in the sawed off shotgun is called the Marauder class. This because I think the assault class is more powerful and more flexible in most cases compared to using the sawed off shotgun for CQC. After seeing the end result of this run, perhaps I have underestimated the sawed off shotgun and should give it another chance.

I believe that's an achievement already? But I'm not sure if it's locked to Commander+ or is achievable on any difficulty. Either way, knowing whether it's possible or not doesn't mean we can't enjoy watching someone suffer through the challenge _for_ us 😈

I knew this was going to be good when I saw LW2 Rangers. As someone who has somehow beaten LWOTC on Legend, I know how great the Ranger class is. 53:03 I can see how this would be a problem in vanilla WOTC. But in the LW mod these guys come from there are PCS abilities that help a ton with this. One is called "Hyper-Reactive Pupils" which gives +15 aim on a missed shot. (Miss and then make a follow up shot, having basically two Locked On's at once) There is also the mod that randomizes Rookie stats when you get them. Training a high aim Rookie into a Ranger is always a great choice. Stocks in LW confer massive aim bonuses on the soldiers next turn as well with their "steady weapon" ability. So all of that mixed with Locked On, Executioner, and Rapid Fire you get a soldier that is basically guaranteed to do a ton of damage to enemies in full cover at any range.. Without having to set themselves up for a turn before making a shot like a Sharpshooter. And none of that is including any other aim bonuses like holo targeting. And also don't forget that in regards to how many utility items your guys have, in the mod you have 3 inventory slots for all your soldiers no matter what.

Spectral zombie rupture is for some odd reason, a melee ability. Similar to the Deleric Mec self-destruct ability. So it didnt double move.... it basically melee... idk why

early game blacksite going terribly and ending up with 2 soldiers killed? damn this hits right at home and dreminds me of my first playtrought, where the assasin killed one guy and i think i got unlucky with the mech and lost a second guy wich lead me to finishing the mission with 2 snipers

Ahh the rangers, one of my favorite classes in LW2 alongside Shinobis as you can build them for crits and overwatch but what if you need something dead really quickly? Sawn off for when you need to get into "Close Range" One of my other favorite things is LWotC 👀 Enjoyable as always Drifter! Edit: I didn't die this time and even served you well, got to love it.

Huh. I figured this run would be a piece of cake with an ability like the double barrel at level 1, and couldn't figure out why you were still having bad missions. I always appreciate it when you take the time to explain the reasons things are/aren't working, I end up with a better understanding of the game every time. Cheers, as always, Drifter! Something about a Sectopod hiding INSIDE a suburban home is especially nightmarish, btw! 1:01:00 for anyone interested. Like... how did it get IN without busting up the walls? Finally, I gotta wonder if Lazy's Overwatch shenanigans during the final mission will lead to a full Overwatch/Reaction only campaign someday, that was great stuff!

The sound from behind your squad on the forge mission was definitely the turret. The sound indicator is just for the nearest enemy, so turrets do proc it.

It’s 1h into video, probably more than 20h into this play and my guy finally gets his chance at his sweet meme beacon. And here I’m. A CI Commander player, modded as fu*k with a lot of new enemies and AIs, more than 10 runs ended because of game breaking bugs in ironman and many other to RNG, still, does not use enough meme beacons as i should. (1 per mission, when i remenber it is there) Still Going to see the result of its savage mission. Hopes u get your juice man.

WIth Long war of the chosen I once had "both barrels" deal a 63 crit on something. But since it's long war it takes ages to get that far.

so he's only got 4 left to go(if we don't count LW2 heroes, psi ops, and rookies as new classes), I'm predicting Shinobi, specialist, sharpshooter, technical. Shinobi just like the reaper run, but without remote start. finish objectives a lot, but low damage output until swords get good unless someone gets shooti Shinobi on the XCOM perk tree roll specialist to go like regular spec run but better sharpshooter run to go godawful because no pistols technical will go as well as the no guns run

You actually might have been kinda screwed when Lazy got shadowbound for the Network Tower mission, considering his multiple reaction shots could have annihilated the rest of your team. It seems rather fortunate that the game softlocked so that never ended up happening.
