The idea that boys- humans- can’t play with human dolls is so bizarre to me! Or that girls playing with cars is weird, when those same judgy women will walk out of the bakery and get into their… CAR… and drive away! *facepalm*

Yea, I can understand that. However, that said, it's definitely more socially acceptable for a girl to play with supposedly boys toys than a boy to play with girls' toys. I think this is a more recent phenomenon. Most people now accept that a girl can do those things and won't grow up to be any different because of it. However, a boy is definitely going to get bullied for that kind of shit especially if it's so public. Perhaps that has recently changed, given the younger generations embracement of people being gay, more so than in the past where that too would be a source of bullying. Not to say that isn't still as any group isn't that homogenous. Point being, there's a place for heterosexual girly girl women and less feminine women, though I don't think the same can be said for men. By in large, it would seem that a heterosexual manly man is preferred as opposed to an effeminate man. So, while it may not necessarily be harmful to let them play with barbies or do other commonly female things. It may be in their best long-term interest not to.

@@theformalmooshroom9147 I understand your concern, but I think it might be misplaced. My brother and I both played with toys designated for either sex, in roles designated for either, among the many other ways that we differed from our peers. I am so glad that my Grandma raised me to defy bullies rather than cave in to them! I cried myself to sleep many a night in childhood, but it made me a strong adult. It got me through the drug revolution without taking drugs, and it got me through beatings over my faith. It enabled me to learn without the filter of what conclusions I was expected to come to with the information and made me an independent thinker. My family made many mistakes, but teaching me courage instead of conformity was not one of them--it's the best part of who I am.

@@theformalmooshroom9147 you missed the mark, love. Touch some grass today and take some deep breaths. It’s not that serious. And Barbies come as boys as well, which is my point… a child playing with a replica of himself shouldn’t be socially inappropriate. It shouldn’t need defending. And no, I seriously disagree on the argument that this is a recent development or something worth “bullying” over. My little brother had female action figures in the 80s… Wonder Woman. April from Ninja Turtles. Even Cabbage Patch Dolls: Those were girl dolls. Nobody cared. He’s now a 40-ish big burly mechanic with a beard. My son saw his sisters get their nails painted and just liked the colors, so he got his done too… he’s now into building robots ten years later. Nobody cared and it didn’t magically make him effeminate. It’s only a big deal if you- the parent- make it a big deal. He was not bullied. It’s been my experience studying psychology that the people who speak out and freak out the most about these types of behaviors are the ones who fear these things the most due to their own trauma and feelings. Whether it be that they have trauma from their own parents over these things or hidden wants/desires to explore those things themselves. There tends to always be a hidden little suppressed motivation that’s then being projected onto others; sort of the way that when someone is cheating in a relationship, they tend to always accuse their partner of cheating and obsess over it. At any rate, kids are pure. They have no motivation other than joy and curiosity unless you skew that for them. I’ll continue to encourage mine to find joy in what makes them happy and protect them from idiots and bigots until they’re old enough to find the words to protect themselves. Which won’t be long… it doesn’t take much education or whit to outsmart most of them.

@DiZoSoMom There's no worth to bullying. That, however, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Of course, it shouldn't happen, but there's many things that shouldn't happen, but they still do. You have to be realistic. There's no point in not planning for something because it shouldn't happen. That's just being naive. Now, not everyone's going to be bullied, of course, not even everyone who plays with designed for the opposite gender. But kids are a rather homogeneous bloc, or at least that's how they act. If you stick out for any reason, you're more likely to catch shit for it. Obviously, there's more that goes into it than that, but why would you put your child in danger of it. If they like doing things that are not the norm, it's best not to publicise it. They can still enjoy it. It'll hopefully just spare them any potential ridicule they may get. Note how I didn't say that it was something definite. I never said boys who play with toys designed for girls will turn out to be more girly. I simply stated that's generally the perception. Obviously, things like that vary from place to place, but again, there's no use denying what other people think, and being naive enough to think what you think is right is going to change their opinion. I suppose ultimately that comes down to the whole nature vs. nurture debate. But like you said, you can have more feminine influences and still turn out masculine. Though chances are, you also had masculine influences, perhaps more. Or there could have been a societal pressure that influenced you in a certain way. Perhaps things would've been different if you had no/very little masculine influence. I suppose it's also down to parents and how much they're involved, though I suppose you don't necessarily need biology to be able to influence someone. As far as I'm aware, Barbie is the brand name of female dolls. I think the male dolls might have a separate brand name. Though, to be honest, I don't really know much about this particular topic, dolls.

@@theformalmooshroom9147 Ken is the male barbie....3 paragraphs to say you don't know what you're talking about DAMN, lol! Telling kids to conform so they don't get bullied doesn't seem like a great message either. I wouldn't worry about putting your kid in danger of being bullied, they'll face this sooner or later no matter who they are. Just accept people for who they are and move on IDK why people make this so difficult.

I actually did play with some of my sister's "girl" toys and she did play with some of my "boy" toys. We often played together. I didn't care about Bratz and thought they were a complete waste of money. I wasn't really into Barbies, but I at least saw the appeal. On rare occasions, I played as Ken and introduced new scenarios for my sister. She liked it and it was fun. I hated fantasy jewellery and princess props. I still hate makeup to this day. I liked some of her dolls. I had by far the biggest collection of dolls and plush toys. Mine mostly consisted of gender neutral animals and male Disney characters. Hers were typical girl rag dolls and plush toys based on female Disney characters. I liked her three rag dolls because she gave them a personality just like I did with my dozens of dolls and plush toys. My kids are going to be home schooled by a househusband (me). Although they'll be influenced by their parents, I'll let them play with whatever they want as long as it's not harmful. Since I'm a huge gamer, they'll definitely want to play video games like their father. I'll introduce them to many different kinds of play and see what they like. I'm not going to educate them differently based on their gender. Men should be allowed to express their emotions and women shouldn't have to compete against each other.

As a former cake decorator… I felt that last one personally. I made ice cream cakes but they still take a while to make, especially because they have be 100% frozen before they can be removed from the cake pan and decorated, which usually takes quite a few hours. Then decorating can take a while. Where I worked, custom cakes could only be placed a week in advance because there were almost always about ten cake orders that were needing to be made. One days I left work with 20 custom cakes in the freezers waiting for pick up. And at least that same amount that would need to be done in the next several days

@@anne-vc7bg And I know many parents of children with medical issues achingly desperate to help their loved one, turning to quackery, folklore, and their best efforts that are horrible from a medical standpoint. Both happen. My wife died a year and 16 days ago. While she was dying of cancer, I would have seized on anything, so while I had to make decisions as I sat in the ICU, I picked two doctors (her oncologist and nephrologist) and trusted them. I had to will myself to not overthink, trust the experts, and accept reality. It is seductive to make medical decisions from your own knowledge, like the idea that you could build up an immunity to gluten in your suffering child and help their life become unencumbered by suffering and instead thrive. That is ignorance--and dangerous ignorance--but it is also love. Unlike the malice in your experience and in so many third hand stories I have heard. None of the people I know who have celiac have run into that from family; I am good friends with a couple whose child just moved out who has celiac, and they carefully crafted a safe home for her. All the stories I have heard have been on the internet, and I am sure it happens.

I dont get why so many people think Celiac is an allergy. Someone can build up a tolerance to an allergy or just outgrow one
@professorbutters

Allergy or “only” an intolerance or a diabetic who needs sugar free food, you take it seriously. (Of course, if you have a nut allergy, a bakery probably can’t guarantee a totally nut-free environment and has a sign up saying that).

If only she said "Ugh...how did you get here?" at the end because the chances are very high that woman did not walk to the bakery, she drove a car. Shouldn't she know she can't drive the car with her cooch? It's far too manly for her, she might start growing hair in unsightly places if she does it too much.

My Barbies got to date GI Joe, Knight Rider and He-man, etc. She had to drive, because the action figures could never see over the dash of her pink Corvette.😂😂😂 I grew up with a younger brother. We mixed our toys up often. (My daughter was raised with Barbie dolls, a kitchen, hot wheels, and whatever really.)

People who think it’s childish to do fun things as an adult are usually pretty miserable people who are most likely doing “childish” things in secret and they are projecting their insecurities onto other people. Reference my 90 year old grandmother who is secretly obsessed with Snoopy.

I love cream cheese, but I hate it as an icing because it always leaves a sour aftertaste in my mouth. This is also true with some (but not all) cheesecakes. So I can totally understand the baker’s look at that. The customer who hates sour things and then picks out the three sour things sold. 😂

Baking is simple anyone can make a lump of charcoal, baking well is not so easy, baking to a professional standard is really hard. My mum and Grandma taught me a baked, and I love it but it's a lot of effort that I couldn't be arsed to do if it's just me😅
