Can I get my DL800 transmission to work?

Another small step towards getting Project Top Gun on the road. Welcome to Episode-55 where I tackle a few small projects and one big one: getting my DL800 transmission to successfully run clutch adaptation! I ditched the HTG-Tuning idea and cancelled my order. (Those thieves still haven't refunded me yet...3-months and counting.) It's been a long road to get to this point and I can smell success on the horizon; but do I get to taste it? You'll find out in this video. Enjoy!

This is the best build on KZfaq spirit this rivals Freddy's P1 build. The only reason this channel doesn't have more followers is because Dan still has a regular job, as an engineer if I remember correctly, and doesn't have time to be a full-time KZfaqr. And as much as I love watching people modified JDM cars that I used to race on Gran Turismo when I was a kid, this is something truly unique. And even though the build hasn't progressed as quickly as some people might have liked, I'm willing to wait longer because Dan's content is so thorough and awesome.

I suggest that to protect the inside of the fenders you just get wheel well liners from a scrap yard cut a suitable chunk out of them and use polyurethane glue to stick them in or glue in some mounting points if you want them removable. You can set them up to shield the fender vents from rocks while still being functional.

I salute Dan's demeanor, against all odds, progress of sorts. Yet I suspect inside there is real frustration that only a real man can cope with. I have never seen a project at this depth before. Sure seen plenty of builts, but with ready made parts needing only bolting on... this is on another level. I am 3 years into a build myself, and just got a three week set back, faulty electronic part supplied. Was meant to be done and dusted this weekend, now delivery is 5th August !! So I have some idea of your frustrations ... I just hope with fingers crossed, like a light bulb it just switches on and works for you. Then I really want to see it thrashed and delivering the performance it looks like delivering .....Great Video ...thanks

There is only one comparable channel on YT - Bad Obsession Motorsport. It’s a pity this one is a little bit niche. While others are rebuilding cars - here we can see the process of creating a car. Awesome!

Dan, I'm sure you will figure the transmission issue, so far every challenge you have overcome. I will add one thing, the bolt you picked for your tow hook is a shoulder bolt, it will need support along the machine surface adjacent to the treaded portion, this may not become an issue due to the light weigh of the Ultima, but if pulling the at an angle, the threaded portion may fracture. Fantastic work.

Dan, this build is awesome. I've had to chase some similar issues (CAN translation, tight fitment, etc.) in my own project. It's certainly frustrating, but oh so satisfying when you get it working. I'm doing the wrong engine in a Vantage, I really like the stance on yours in the videos. Looks like a V12 car?

You may need someone to do a bench reflash on the unit to get the correct software installed. I’m in a trade group with a few dozen technicians that specialize in module reprogramming and it’s crazy what some of these vehicles require. Odis is very particular. You may end up needing a more unorthodox solution at the end of the day. I can see if anyone has ideas about this setup if you’re still searching for a solution.

I’ve had to deal with just a tiny amount of coding factory part numbers with Porsche, and they’re terribly finicky about what vehicle they came out of - what vintage was associated, etc. I can only imagine your desire to get this wrapped up but you seem close!

After I messaged you on last video about the HTG, I had a feeling it was a no go. Might as well say goodbye to your money but do hope you get a refund. I’m going to at least give my HTG a chance as I already have it and already hacked my tcu 😢. If it doesn’t work, I’ve been looking at maxxecu as the trans controller for my dq500 and Is able to speak to my m150. I’ve heard that even the cheapest ECU will work. It be my next step if the HTG is a fail and will have to buy another dq500 continental tcu fml

Reference your CANBUS Pt1 video did your canbus transmit all the time with the ignition on. I'm looking at an Audi RS4 using SavvyCAN , with the ignition on and the bus is totally silent unless I also plug in VCDS and query a module, then everything seems to work OK. This doesn't seem to reflect what everyone else on KZfaq liike you seems to get a constant data stream from when they first plug in.
@DanDulac
@DanDulac 11 күн бұрын
@@julianpalmer4674 It’s because the OBD2 port on all factory Audi cars is wired directly to the CAN Gateway that filters out ALL CAN traffic unless it’s queried by a device (like VCDS). To see all powertrain traffic all the time, you need to tap the powertrain CAN BUS wires *behind* the CAN Gateway (thereby bypassing it). In my video, notice in the diagram I have no CAN Gateway in my car so nothing is filtering traffic. Hope this helps!

If you don´t me asking, why don´t you purchase a MoTEC Lambo PNP kit? It should send all the torque information, to the TCM and should work as factory

I considered that long ago when I first started the build. But it’s really overkill for my setup as I don’t plan to turbocharge or run anything other than stock/optimized tune. It’s certainly an option but I want to vet all possible options with the OEM electronics. 👍
