I planned a road trip to the national parks this summer and found the best week to go without disrupting my training was the weekend of the Missoula Half Marathon, which is 15 weeks before the Chicago Marathon. My goal was to win the race to help fund the trip. So, I headed to the Tetons and Yellowstone on Friday and Saturday before the Sunday race. Unfortunately, I slept poorly both nights as we were camping in a tent.
The aim of the race was to run at marathon pace and feel smooth despite my body being completely exhausted. Leading up to the race, I had completed two workouts that week and logged 75 miles.
Given all these factors, I was genuinely surprised at how well I performed during the race. I’m in a great place, being 15 weeks out from the Chicago Marathon.
