I don't think Kuminga is especially risky. Sure, he has some glaring holes in his game, but they were exposed because he played professional basketball last year. Had he played college ball, he'd have averaged 25 and 10 and everybody would be saying he's the next Kawhi Leonard.

I think Kuminga has the highest star-or-bust potential in this draft. I mean if he fix a couple of things it is hard to not see him dominate. But it is the same thing we told periodically in draft prospects and I think most of the time it doesn't end up well. Like in the last 10 years the players that becomes stars were actually good and solid players previously. Not everyone is Giannis afterall, and we don't see a Giannis if not in a generation.

I think he has a higher bust than boom potential, he has been playing basketball since 2016 and is still super raw. He struggled to be efficient in the G league so who knows how he will react to Elite NBA defenses. I have a feeling he was talked into playing basketball because of his physical tools and might not actually have the passions and love for the game to become a star. Who knows though I could be very wrong and he could become the future of the league.

@@vota5201 that’s cap about him being talked into the game, he does have a passion for the game and since he arrived here in the states he had a track record of improvements and he’s a guy who jumped in the high school ranking and graduate as the #4 recruit and #1 SF in the nation, watching him he was a in AAU and and in HS he was a mismatch out there

@@vota5201 He used to walk miles just to get to a basketball court in his home country of Congo, so he definitely has love for the game. Seems like a high work ethic guy to me. Honestly, the fact that he's as good as he is despite only playing since 2016 is encouraging to me. He's improved so much in such a short period of time. There's still a long way too go, but the upside is clear and I think the work ethic, passion, and willingness to improve are all there

Dort is one of those guys who goes 5 for 8 from three one day and people go crazy, but he's a flat out horrible shooter and was one fo the worst offensive players in the league last year. Shooting 12 shots a game at 12%below average shooting made him a bit of a disaster offensively. Dort is definitely not a keeper, that being said you don't just give him away for nothing either, but people vastly over rate him.

@@andrewshandle it's because he's 22 and has time to improve his efficiency, meanwhile the defense is so good like trust me stats don't say shit, he's so fucking good onball and pretty decent off ball, he's incredibly unselfish and seems to have a really really good motor and work ethic, things that are hard to fine but extremely valuable in rookies.

This is a pretty good breakdown Jonathan Kuminga. There are two things missing from this scouting report, however: 1. His work ethic 2. some context. He can have all the potential in the world, but if he doesn’t have the relentless drive to be successful, if he doesn’t put in the work, if he doesn’t respect the game, all the upside won’t matter. I also don’t hear any discussion about the different level of competition. There’s a lot of guys in college who could never compete in the G league.

I like Kuminga. Super young and raw but the fact he's already been up against NBA-level talent with NBA-level training and coaching ( love coach shaw ) means he has a head start on other guys in this class at the very least physically. Which imo he already had a certain advantage being 6’8 215 with jump out the gym athleticism. Whoever takes him if put in the right scenario could have a stud.

His game is not raw his feel for the game at this level is in need of growth as the overwhelming majority of 18 year olds. Remember, even Kobe had these same issues as a rookie.
@cameronferguson4067
@cameronferguson4067 3 жыл бұрын
It’s more than just feel of the game stuff though. His handle needs developed and he needs to work on consistency with his jumper (free throws as well). His passing, defense, and shot selection you can chalk up to feel for the game issues that’ll come with time (if you’re feeling generous) but having a weak (though not totally abismal) handle and inconsistent jump shot is a matter of not having fully developed your game.

@@cameronferguson4067 Raw or not, his game is ahead of schedule. Go look at what Kawhi, PG, Jaylen Brown, and BI were doing at 18 and where their game was at when they entered the league. All of these players are obviously very good, so I think location and fit are far more important than people give than what people seem to give them credit. That's what worries me about a player like Edwards because a team like Minnesota has a tendency to do um, well... everything wrong. I think a player like Ricky Rubio is the perfect example. With the sheer potential he had and his playmaking specifcally, you simulate his career a thousand times, and our universe is likely one of the worst case scenarios for his career where he was plagued by injured and trapped in Minnesota which was a place that I don't think ever really knew how to fully utilize him. Kuminga is raw and has a lot of potential so he NEEDS the perfect fit or he's just not gonna develop.

kuminga starting to turn it around ... so many are willing to give up on him, say he's a disappointment, or trade him for a veteran kuminga has always been the highest upside player of the "young core" the GSW had ... him being a versatile big win gave him an advantage over wiseman who is a true center and unless you're a special talent like jokic or embiid ... going to be tough for most NBA team to build a team around that kind of talent in this day and age remember kuminga is still only 20 years old and if he didn't reclassify a couple of years ago this would be his true NBA rookie season and last season should've been where he spent all of the year in the gleague which is the route he went the year before in 2020/21 post all star break in 25 minutes per game kuminga is averaging 13.3 pts 4.1 reb 2.0 ast on 56% fg, 42% on 3, 67% ft shooting defensively which was a question mark is also improving as he's always been a really good one on one on ball defender even dating back to his rookie season in 2021/22 ... now he's learning to be a better team defender this season kerr likened kuminga to that of former suns/mavs marion ... definitely could see kuminga having that kind of upside down the road ... maybe even better if he continues to improve thru out his NBA career

Also, can we just admit that there is almost no defense anymore. It used to be that you drove the lane and you got clobbered trying to score. Now everyone parts like the Red Sea so you can dunk.

You're gonna draft him out of the G League just to send him back to the G League. If you watch full games and not just highlights, you"ll know his game is too raw and not worth of a lottery pick.

A true comparison is Paul George without a shot, good handle, size, a good passer for his position, good defender, he just can’t shoot and Is a bad shot taker . Which I would be ok with because he’s 18! Forwards is the most important positions.

He looks so rough right now. People compare him to Siakam when he was first drafted. But Siakam was drafted at 27 for a reason, Kuminga doesn't have one NBA skill right now. No way i would take him in the top 10.

I don’t understand why Kuminga is believed to have such upside. He is cant shoot he has mediocre vision and is bad at defense. He literally cant do anything against NBA athletes
@MLA831
@MLA831 3 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Like what's the point a guy that's below average on D, has tunnel vision on offense and it's not a consistent shooter? Makes no sense. I feel like this draft after the Top 4 is very flawed. I get that this year was quite difficult to scout, so they'll probably be a lot of steals in late in the 1st and in the 2nd round
