Hello: Excellent your video, it made me remember when, tired of Microsoft's abuses, I decided to take the step to Gnu Linux, specifically Linux Mint because of its resemblance to Windows. Some scopes: 1. Obviously Linux Mint does not behave the same as Windows, if it did, there would be no point in its existence. 2. With the Linux Mint 21.1 version it is not necessary to resort to the terminal. You can install everything you need from the Software Center. 3. Linux Mint is an "out of the box", that is to say, it comes with everything you need to start working right out of the box. 4. According to my experience it is better to use an AMD video card, as the Nvidia can give problems related to the drivers. However, if you have the second one, it is very easy to install the necessary drivers by following the instructions on the welcome screen. 5. It is true that, obviously, not all Windows programs can be installed on Linux Mint. However, there are several alternatives. In the case of Office, Libreoffice is more than enough for most users. 6. As for games, you can install several through Lutris, in a very simple way. One last remark. I have tried to go back to Windows, but its spyware, bloatware and aggressive and invasive advertising quickly bore me.

That is an excellent point about the lack of privacy within the Microsoft ecosystem. Perhaps at some point privacy will become more valuable generally and give reason to switch form Windows to Linux

The simple answer is no... Linux Mint cannot replace Windows 7. They're two totally different operating systems. Similarity in looks is ironically only skin deep. The real problems come when you try to actually do anything. And I've never understood the argument for stability with Linux... I haven't had any stability issues with Windows 7 in probably 10 years.

Some Windows users have no issues. Others have a lot of issues. For some Windows updated break Windows, others never have that problem. There are many variables in hardware-software interoperability

Linux can't repalce windows, windows is a seperate OS based on other private source that doesn't function like unix based systems you can switch to linux but you will still feel that it isn't like windows and it can't give you the same feel that's why there are still many people that use windows xp and windows 7, it is because of the feel they love but the thing i love the most about linux is that it is so fast and can be used to make a dead old pc reusable again

Many Thanks for this video. I have to switch from my beloved Win7 to a new OS because Steam fully stop support on that OS. I refuse to use Win10 for my reasons. I realy worried about Linux, I dont like and too lazy to learn a new system. However your video make me feel better about it. My only issue is the so different way its use folders and I still dont know how I migrate my database from windows. I readed several guide, but it feel so difficult. Also as you said we have to find alternatives for long used programs in Win7 not working in Linux. Gladly Steam have very good support with Proton to run their games on Linux.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I’ve loved using Linux off and on, it’ll never replace Windows/MacOS for the general public until it gets to the point that you don’t have to get into the guts of the thing with a terminal window. Your average user gets on a Linux support forum and just sees lines upon lines of incomprehensible gibberish compared to “click this, install that” on the big guys. The moment someone has to type sudo, you’ve lost 90% of the average computer users. Using terminal commands to install an app/program is where most users will, and imho, should check out. I get for power users like the type that watch this channel, terminal commands can be faster, you can be more sure your getting exactly what you want, etc, but the GUI has been around for 40 years now and using it to install a program shouldn’t be groundbreaking, and SNAP installs from software managers are… unreliable at best. Half the time I open Ubuntu’s software manager, it renders incorrectly like a webpage with bad CSS. Not bagging on Linux based OS’ mind you. Two raspberry pis run half my house, my pihole, WireGuard VPN, hell even my yard watering schedule is managed by one, and frankly Windows lacks a lot of that flexibility.

It's a learning curve with linux .If you use nvidia gpu you will need nvidia's proprietary drivers which can be installed via the terminal or if the distro ships with install nvidia drivers options during installation .Amd's drivers are open source so they come imbeded inside the kernel of linux so you don't really need to install drivers in this case .For gaming people reccomend proton that comes with Steam .I heard you can install programs with it too but people use it for gaming primaraly and wine for programs .Lutris is also used for gaming.Only downside is games with anticheat dont run .There is a chance even you to get banned for using linux cause the anticheat thinks you use 3rd party software and developers don't bother implementing anticheat for linux .There are games with anticheat that run on linux though Apex legends, halo infinite ,csgo and valve games i think run for example .Most single player games without online services run good on linux .You can check the games which you want to know how they run in protondb .Hope more devs will start using proton and wine .Steamdeck handheld kinda gave a push towards that direction .Btw edge also runs on linux 🤣 ,microsoft has a port for linux .I personally like kde plasma desktop enviroment more .It feels more at home and kinda more familiar to windows and it's more customizable i think .Tried to search how to make it look glassy/aero style like windows 7 .Not necesserely like windows 7 but the aero feel .
