Can most succulents grow indoors

There are quite a few succulents that will grow well enough indoors but whether or not they survive will depend on how much light you can give them.
Although succulents are marketed as great, low maintenance indoor plants the great majority are likely to struggle as they need ample sunlight and bright light to grow well. Shade-tolerant succulents do exist and they are more likely to grow better indoors but even they can struggle in very low light.
In this video i will address where i get my information from, which succulents will grow well indoors and how to care for them.

I agree with you that succulents would prefer to be outdoors in full sunshine. On a whole. And many people have a misconception that they can grow indoors with the help of a “sunny window”. But in my personal indoor growing experience of growing over 400 or so sun loving Echeveria, as you and I have spoken before, as long as you have a very good grow light set up you can grow them wonderfully indoors. For many years to come. The other really important MUST with growing indoors is FANS. You must have fans and air circulation or you will get powdery mildew and rot issues. Fans, lighting and soil mix is all very important when growing indoors. You can’t do it well without addressing all three. That’s my 2 cents from way over here in MinneSNOWta USA. ❤

I live at high altitude in Boulder CO and the sun radiation is perhaps 2 times stronger than sea level. In my kitchen I have south and west facing windows and echeveria do well there year round. Some of them do get a bit more color outdoors. I know you and most people don't live at high altitude but thought I would share this info anyway.

My succulents all stopped growing after I bought them. After I got a growing light their colors all changed and I got new growth.

What kind of light are you using?

Yes!! They NEED good grow lights to grow indoors. Must be bright white cool full spectrum lighting. I bought mine from Home Depot. They come in 12inch , 24inch and 48inch sizes. Brand is Feit. If you would like to see my set up you can go through my KZfaq channel. I have two videos showing a bit of my indoor collection. I’ve been growing for 4 years now indoors as my location is zone 4 and it’s too cold here in winter time. My collection is mainly sun loving Echeveria. Hope that helps.

@sakshamsharma406 I just got a cheap amazon one, they are also in a bright window so I dont worry too much about the kind of light since it is just an extra help. I dont think it matters too much as long as you also have the window. but you can kind of see if the light is working or not, the succulents will continue stretching if it still isnt enough. I actually had to take a few of mine out from under the grow light because it was bothering them. my burros tail had no interest in extra light.

@@dannybun9332 Ya the succulent you mentioned doesn’t need as much light as echeverias do. The cheap ones on Amazon in my experience don’t do the job very well. So you can’t use those for echeverias. When I first started growing indoors 4 years ago I learned that the hard way. I no longer buy cheap grow lights on Amazon. But for plants that don’t need strong full spectrum lights like Echeveria that will probably work with having a window there as well. Like you said, you’ll know if it’s right for your succulents or not because your succulents will let you know. 😉

@ForeverASucculentAddict I have over 20 echeverias and they are all fine, but again they are also in a very bright window AND grow light.
