Back in the days there are so many small CB but hard as rock and crazy jumping power. Baresi, Beckenbauer, Ivan Cordoba, Fabio Cannavaro, Roberto Ayala, Costacurta, Bergomi, walter Samuel, Lilian Thuram are not the biggest CB around but these guys are hard no nonsense type of CB that would eat Haaland for breakfast and Zlatan for lunch.

His one and a half pre-injury seasons with Inter when he scored 39 off 51 in the toughest league against the toughest defenders in the world? Or are you talking about the season when he won the WC with Brazil in 02 winning the Golden boot, or his 3 first Real Madrid seasons when an overweight, recuperating, slowed version of him still managed to score at a rate of a goal in less than 2 games. So which seasons do you mean here?

@@mahzarX Weak inconsequential league like the Dutch League? The first season R9 was in the Eredivisie, Ajax were the CL winners. The Dutch League was a Top 5 league at worst in the 90s, with several teams doing well in Europe as well as quite a few number of superstars and great players to have played in it then. No one mentioned Cristiano or Messi here, but neither had a goalscoring tournament as good as Ronaldo's 2002 WC, and that was his first major tournament right after the horrendous injury that cut him short at Inter. And as much as you want to poo-poo his Brasilerao goals, it doesn't change the fact he was doing it as a 17-18 year old, something Cristiano Ronaldo never came close to doing when he was playing in an arguably weaker Portuguese league (at their respective eras) at the same age. His time in the Brazil NT and the other club teams in the 90s is DEFINITELY era defining, heck, he's unquestionably the best player in the world of the late 90s and arguably the best player of the 90s as a whole because of his performances for both club and country. Beyond this, he was more than above average for a good 3-4 seasons in the 2000s, he was World Class, just in a completely different style than from his 90s form

That's false. Check your stats. Nesta played 4 times against Messi (all in the 2011-12 season) and Messi scored 3 times in those 4 games (+ 3 assists). And Nesta received a yellow in every single one of those 4 games. So no, he did not "tackle" Messi. He just couldn't stop him. Facts are facts. Check them.
