We hadn’t been at @maryrobinettekowal long before Parker started her usual antics and used @elsiewants board 😅 We watch each others learners online all the time but as you can hear from Mary Robinette’s reaction, there’s something unmatched about seeing it in person. What do you think, can Parker read? #aic #fluentpet #talkingdog

It is astonishingly beautiful seeing how we humans have so under estimated the intelligence of dogs and cats. I had cats (before I ever knew talking buttons was a thing) and spoke to them all the time. We communicated pretty well. They knew that they were so very loved and I knew they loved me also. Miss Leah and Powder (male) so, so much. Thank you for sharing these wonderfully interesting videos. 😊

I think Parker has a great memory. Someone else must have been frustrated and hit that button and Parker remembered it and so uses it in context. She’s an intelligent dog. This seems a logical explanation however I’m happy to be proven wrong. Thank you. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩

That’s often how she learns them but no one had hit those buttons in her presence yet this time!

Pets tend to know far more words than what gets put on the boards. I'm thinking that she already knew the word frustration, saw a button she didn't know, pressed it, and when it said "frustration" she thought something along the lines of "oh, good, now I have a button for that!"

I think we ofter forget that our fur babies already know _a lot_ of words from being around us and them just hearing us talk. Im pretty sure its that they then hit a button, say to themselves “ oh good, now i have a button for that word i know!” And proceed to use it in proper context.

yes! I think that's a lot of how Parker learns - is either hearing words she recognizes when someone else uses the board, or experimenting and finding words she knows and then using them!

I said it before...yes, I think she reads, and other button animals I've seen. I have been a teacher and taught small children to read. I don't see the difference..I can elaborate if anyone wants me to!

Has Parker used this new board before? I like Amanda, suggested that Parker can read. However We viewers can't see the labels. Are the button labels written in similar intelligible script/ form. If so that would increase the likelihood that Parker can read. Would be interesting to test Parker's reaction to boards using only capital letters, which differ in form from lower case. Have you tried testing if Parker can read. Eg showing her a button from a different board, and asking ' what this button'. And telling her to show you on her board

I understand that you are a member of the academy [ university ]. and so have to be professionally cautious. I would still let the aic research team know, the possibility that Parker can read. I've just read yr post that Noone hit those buttons pressed in the video, in her presence Interesting :) What is writing but a form of pictures. ---- I've often thought. If the best humans in a particular field are ten times better than the average person. Then there are bound to be some higher animals with intelligence equal to humans. Either general intelligence or in a specific human

@@jonbaker1697 These buttons had labels just with the word in all caps, no pictures like Parkers (where the words are also handwritten)

@@puppyparkerposey thank you. Hmmm. ' outside ' and ' frustration ' may look similar enough in lowercase or capitals, that Parker understands. Certainly both versions of outside has enough similarities
