Thank you for this vid. When i first used minimalist shoes i figured out the key was to run relaxed. This was to allow my feet to stregthen gradually. As for the shoes it had to be flexible and allowed my toes to splay to absorb the shock. Basically just protection from debris and the weather. Though i dont run competitively i do run everyday except the weekends. What i have found was with minimalist shoes the injuries all went away. Jusy my two cents. Cheers and God bless.

Amazing video #GTN... these results validate my own experience... I’ve been running with 0mm drop/flats for the past 11 years and my technique improved so much... You can also see some of the results, at least in the US, when they invented “cushioned shoes” in the 70’s running performance of US runners dropped and injuries for running increased... Nothing like running just like the “#Tarahumara Indian Tribe” from the hidden mountains ⛰ of Mexico!!!

Loving the GTN content. Followed the links from the Can Run Shies Change Your Gate video. Took Mrs S to RunBath for a fitting & gsit analysis just before the UK went into Lockdown 2. Relatively new to running, they were absolutely brilliant with her. No rush & no push. They were very patient and let her try on the shop. Fantastic customer service, if you are local, would definitely recommend 👍👍

Heather, according to my experience with barefoot running you should not be running on your toes, you should land midfoot and always allow the heel to touch the ground. Too much strain on the calves otherwise. Takes some time to get used to barefoot running. Good that you use the Vivos as everyday shoes in the summer, helps strengthening the foot 😊

Awesome video, very interesting! After starting running in traditional running and getting A LOT of knee and foot pain, I switched to the exact same Vivo’s as in this video and since, no pain and I’ve done all my racing in them (from 5k to marathon races) and I feel so much quicker and lighter on my feet. Tempted to try out some different shoes now though and experiment a bit myself!

Can you address forefoot running and how to properly land midfoot? I seem to run on my toes after plantar fasciitis and I tire easily on my toes.

I would also consider posture/body positioning with a comfortable shoe. Stretch calves before and after. Run how it feels natural

I had my gait analysed at a running shop and bought some stability shoes on their advice. I then started to develop severe shin splints from wearing them. I’ve ignored this advice and bought some neutral shoes and the pain has now gone. Personally I feel you should run in neutral shoes and only change or get analysed IF you experience pain from wearing them

Very interesting! Just one thing that I would like to comment on is that, I think comparing the barefoot shoe to the rest like this can be a little misleading, since they need an adaptation process to be able to run in them. Specially as Heather mention, to avoid overloading the calf muscle. I used barefoot shoes to change my landing to a forefoot landing and at the beginning I had to change the length of my "normal" run from 8k to around 3k (the doms where worse than a hard gim leg day). Now I just keep them in the running shoe rotation to strengthen the feet and restate posture

One really has to get used to barefoot running before it gets comfortable. After a few weeks it feels awesome and you can run for hours. Until you step in a piece of glass. So much for my experience. Now enjoying regular but low drop shoes with no problems at all.

It seems to me a bit of a simplistic analysis, since no attempt was made to normalise the data. You didn't even provide the lap time or average speed so there is no possibility of reanalysis.

I am sorry to hear you feel this way. The lap time was consistent with all 4 so it seemed like information overload and not adding to the video to share that as well.

Running in a barefoot shoe doesn't just change your biomechanics, it corrects your biomechanics. Trouble is that the majority of people are so badly screwed up by modern, sedentary lifestyles and wearing ridiculous, gimmicky shoes (running and day-to-day) that it takes a lot of careful rehabilitation to reap the benefit of the correction. It is so sad that the footwear industry largely colludes in selling products that perpetuate a biomechanical deficiency. Then you have the orthotics manufacturers who sell you the product to mask (not fix) that deficiency. How many 1000's of videos are there on youtube covering glute activation? How many people slavishly perform those exercises then run in a 6,8,10 or12 mm heel drop running shoes that immediately undoes the work. It's all completely nuts.

🎯 it utterly amazes me that so many people who’ve been running for so long and accomplished so much (well, it’s all speed based which is a problem within itself, but...) still act like they don’t get it, it shows lack of integrity and how people will contradict everything that makes sense. It’s the curse of Bill Bowerman that remains unbroken. It’s like they’re literally promoting pain

I used to do every second week a faster session barefoot on a grass track, I find the first 2 or 3 sessions you have interesting pains in your muscles but after that feels really good. Barefoot running when you read up on it is good for overall running form as you are not running 'hard' on the ground because you can feel it better and overall adjusts your cadence up as you effectively tip toe through the run 😁
@markus7894
@markus7894 3 жыл бұрын
I think you should have used the 4 shoes in the order 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1. As it is now, you just observe some effect of doing 4x the same, a little slower each time. The decreasing cadence gives automatically the other numbers...

The question is do we have to change our gait to effectively run in certain shoes. The answer is Yes. I had to change my gait and foot strike to run in the Nike Next% but not for the Saucony Endorphin Pro so after testing I chose the Pro. I was faster with my natural gait.

Do running shoes age if they have not been used (or sold)? I ask this because unused running shoes are cheaper, but I am not sure if it is a good idea to buy them.

Hello. Man you looked freezing! Glad you went indoors! Very interesting video. Is there a big difference between the cloud boom and flash? I haven’t tried either (and can’t at the moment) but am looking for a shoe like this. I’ve recently moved from Adidas takumi sen3 which I love for grip and low profile etc but you cant get any more to a cloud flow. I like them (although I think the people at On are colour-blind). I got the flow because of the 6mm drop and am nervous to go up to a 9. Sorry-another question-but can you actually run in the On cloud shoes or are they just for casual wear? So much more choice for colour.
@heatherfell_oly
@heatherfell_oly 3 жыл бұрын
I would say yes. I haven't run a great deal in either but the boom gives you that extra energy return that you really can feel. I personally use the cloud for casual wear but they are designed as a run shoe, just with minimal support.

@@CSRunner7 yea I’ve got one and it connects to my garmin fenix 6, not sure about your model sorry. To be honest though I mainly use it for cycling as I find my wrist hr isn’t too far off for running. The metrics are interesting but once you’ve looked at them a few times I kind of lost interest. The HR is super accurate though so I will mainly use when it when I run if I am doing intervals because it will react quickly to changes in effort (much quicker than a watch will).

@@lukakolakusic30 I am fully aware of this... This was just my way to say that this test isn't so relevant because hardly anyone would pick the Cloudboom as their racing shoe. Cloudboom is essentially a cut-in-half Cloudflow with a carbon plate glued between, so it isn't really surprising that they behaved similar. A top of the line racing shoe like the Alphafly, Saucony Endorphin pro or Addidas Adios pro would would certainly give a lot more bounce because of the huge amount of pebax foam in the midsole. The main function of the carbon plate is to give the shoe some rigidity, because otherwise it would become nearly impossible to run around tight corners in these shoes. Adding a carbon plate to a regular shoe doesn't make a super-shoe.
