I'm Scottish, and I've had potato scones many, many times, but they're completely different. I just had my first proper scone, with jam and clotted cream, last month on a trip to Bath. I'm addicted now!

My dad use to make very light and fluffy scones, he made plain, pumpkin, cheese and herb, bacon and cheese and curry scones. A lady from a country town, that won competitions for her scones, said that if my dad scones were better than hers, she'd eat her hat, after trying my dad scones, she asked someone to pass her hat. He also had to make a dozen scones per man, when they were on shift on a Saturday, and if they got called out to a fire, they'd lock their scones in their lockers on the way out. They'd get very upset if my dad didn't make them, and he was their boss. He even gave them to the nurses at the blood bank, when he and mum were donating blood, mum made the jams and dad made the scones. Sadly he died when he was 69.

Got to disagree here - the food does always look very nicely prepared, but is often far from what it is described as! The sausage and mashed potato for instance, definitely not how it’s served here (England)! The same for this food - the cream is wrong, the jam appears to be a generic jelly - not actual jam. It should be clotted cream (from Devon, or at least to Devon or Cornwall recipe). Just saying! 😊

I'm Cornish and you're right we do disagree but everyone knows that we are right to spread the jam first then dollop the cream on top. Devonians are just lunatics doing it the wrong way around 😂

I'm not sure of the right order - I was shown scone then jam then clotted cream, but I love them. We can't find them here unless you're in a large city like New York or San Francisco. Every time I'm in England, it's my first stop.

@@kateg7298 If you put the cream on first, you can push a litttle divot into it with the back of your spoon to hold the cream. 😉
