2 years ago I bought a Huawei Honor Max 5G and had it shipped to me here in the U.S. When I called my MVNO mobile phone carrier they asked me for the IMEI number in my "about phone" settings and told me that they could connect me with thier TMobile towers SIM card (they have the ability to assign either GSM or CDMA service with 2 different SIM cards they have). After many months of horrible service running off TMobile towers I started doing some research and found that my phone also has an MEID number in its "about phone" settings area. I did a google search and read that a phone which has both identifiers (IMEI & MEID) can connect to either technology....BUT when I called my provider they said that was INCORRECT. Can someone explain this to me please. thanks!!

This is quite simple to confirm. Just go to a website called GSM arena. You can find your phone model there. Go to the network section there. If the model supports CDMA, you'll see it there. You'll see things like CDMA2000 and EVDO etc.

What if you bought a phone and used it whilst connecting to the hotspot of a second device instead of placing a simcard in its slot? Would you contact the shop where you bought the device ? or How can you block the IMEI number of the mobile taking into consideration it has been stolen ?

Contact the mobile operator. When you lose your phone, you contact the mobile operator who is best placed to track your phone.

I ordered a new phone from scAmazon and received the empty phone box instead that was shipped to the scAmazon Hub Lockers, the original scAmazon tape was cut and the package was resealed with another shorter piece of scAmazon tape so most likely one of their employees took it. I included the 2 IMEIs on the police report and still waiting for for the follow up.... For some reason the sheriff office switched it to lost property instead of package theft/porch pirate they said for me to use. Glad the thief left the box with the IMEI numbers. What free IMEI tracker do you recommend?

Well, I really wouldn't recommend any because you never know where that information is stored and who has access to it. The best way really is to work with the official authorities like the phone seller/company and/or the law enforcement people.

Authorities can track a phone from the moment it connects to the network i.e. when a functioning SIM is inserted and the signalling starts. The phone always communicates the IMEI number because that's how it identifies itself.

Don’t worry about it. The phone company obviously needs your imei and serial numbers etc to keep a record of your device.

Please contact your mobile operator if you got your iPhone through them. Tracking the phone technically is one thing, but in practical life, would a mobile operator go as far as to chase someone for a customer, I doubt that. Sorry, I'm sure that's not what you want to hear but definitely contact the operator to see what help they can provide.

@@CommsbriefLimitedOfficial the fact is that you need that device to be connected to a network to track it, unless you're the owner and can use find my for example in the case of iPhones, you're implying that anyone can track a phone with just the IMEI number, and that's not true

@@RagingBad The IMEI number is linked to the SIM slot, so it's a given that the phone has to be connected to the mobile network to be tracked. As far as the tracking methodologies go, in all countries, the IMEI number is used by the law enforcement authorities to track lost or stolen mobile phones. If the IMEI number gets in the wrong hands, it can be misused which may be more likely in some countries than others.

I can only provide a view. For professional advice, please contact your service provider. Technically possible but not sure practically how easy it would be. The mobile operator whose SIM is used in the phone will be able to know the location at any given time when the phone communicates back to the network. Contact the store where you bought the phone from and ask them what your options are.
