I had a similar thing happen to me when I was a young woman. I was bed bound in hospital, unable to move calling out for help from ANYONE as nurses were ignoring my bell. There was laughing, loud whispering and gossiping in the distance as they were talking about me behind my back, knowing I was in pain and crying out for help. I had chest pain and was blacking out . They kept walking straight past me. I thought I was going to die. Eventually someone did come but was rude and cruel telling me there was nothing wrong . I was a prisoner in that bed and hostage to their inaction. I’ve blocked most of this out but I think they gave me a painkiller? I was in there for weeks and was bullied by most of the nurses it was a nightmare. If you’re disabled be ready to be treated like an animal. This video shows what can happen when you’re vulnerable. If you don’t have family or friends scrutinising their moves and maintaining a good physical presence your fair game. I survived and NEVER want to return to that hospital.

Working as a CNA sadly I've seen this happen. Typically on our unit there is a nurse per 8pt and a CNA per 12pt One day I came in to the manager having to have a talk with everyone because I guess the night I worked, a guy (not assigned to me) came up from the ED and his nurse and his CNA didn't clean him up or do anything all night, The family came in the next morning and was absolutely angry because this man was bedbound and couldn't do anything for himself. The manager tried to say something to me and I told her exactly who the nurse and CNA watching over that patient was. If there are 24 patients on the floor there's no way I can be everywhere all at once, and my assignments and he was on the other side of the unit assigned to the other CNA. He physically couldn't use the call light so the call light wasn't going off. If I'm busy constantly all night on the other half of the unit and I'm to assume the other CNA is actually doing their job, then how am I to know that happened? I was so busy with my side I didn't even know that they got another patient on their side. Now if I hear people yelling or call lights are going off on the other side I'll go check. But no one had told me they got a new patient and no call lights were going off or anything. But yeah believe me I reported both the CNA in the nurse that had that patient.

I don’t think it’s an issue of being black or white. I’ve seen this working in the emergency room. Nurses get desensitized to people who say they’re in pain. They see a lot of drug seekers, mental health issues and people who overdramatize their symptoms and they think everyone is faking or attention seeking. When they loose their compassion and ability to view each patient as an individual they need to get a new profession. This is sad and disgusting.

(how a still image of someone on a floor would do that??) MOST NURSES are unhappy and vicious. Once, I was waking up from an unnecessary open lung biopsy, and I guess zi trust people so little as I was awakening I apparently pulled my BREATHING TUBE OUT AND FOUGHT TO GET 'FREE'! It was so confusing, the room was dping up upbup and around around up up up and around around. I guess the reintabated me, I had no idea what was going on, I think theyvhad me sitying up? Or,. maybe there was a mirror at an angle RIGHT above me? Confusing, terrifying .. I have been tied up and raped as a boy,, in multiple state run group homes,. and schools and church.. and camp,. So,. I probably thought I was being attacked again? Anyways I probably started to settld down, and then a nurse thwt looked a lot like one of those three (on the left,,.. :( walked by loojed in my eyes and gave a really mean frown, and I just Freaked Out, thought she would kill me (on Popranolol waking up SLOOOW And scared ,..) cONE WOULD THINK A NURSECWOULD KNOW TO CONTROL THEIR FACIAL EXPRESSIONSVWITH A TERRIFIED PATIENT! BUT NOPE... i nearly got my tube out again, they put cotton loops on my wrists to stop ne from pulling itvout,. was a nightmare of nightmares,. I have never met a nurse that was nice for very long, to be honesy,. YOU REALLY GET TO KNOW THEM when you are warehouse and dying for 2+ years (7 months in intensive care) most of that time undiagnosed! I am glad you are a nice Nurse though,. I am sure they exist,!! . DID YOU HEAR (maybe you don't care but) the girl who played Nurse Wendy on ER was killed by Police in a 'home health check' some check huh? I really love that show,. I even have it on Bluray.. So sad,. She seemed so depressed her house all messy and sad like mine, clearly had been holed up alone for the last year in lockdown, slowly descending into depression like me,. @@christinenewhouse6920 the race of the nurses did not have anything to do with them being bad and neglectful. in fact i've never had an issue with a black nurse, but have had plenty of issues with white nurses. their race didn't have anything to do with that, it just so happened that these nurses who let mr dempsey die were black. and i know how many nurses behave (cruelly) but if you are looking for a nurse to take care of you, it's of course entirely up to you and your family who you believe is gonna be a good caretaker, but being black is not going to cause your nurse to mistreat you. does that make sense?

I spent years in the hospital in my 20’s. I had tons of amazing doctors and nurses. However, I had one nurse who was sadistic. I was on a ventilator ( a tube down my throat to make you breathe) and it would fill with fluid and needed to be suctioned out so I could breathe once in awhile. One nurse just watched me panic as I couldn’t breath and smiled. I was so desperate that I started knocking everything over I could get my hands on. Luckily another nurse came in hearing the noise. As soon as she walked in the other nurse pretended to be busy picking things up. The 2nd nurse quickly suctioned my tube out but I still couldn’t talk. I wrote on a piece of paper to call my family immediately. I was afraid she would do it again possibly killing me. The “Nurse Ratchet” tried to prevent the 2nd nurse from calling my family saying it was to late (it was 2am). Sensing something definitely wasn’t right she called them immediately. My mom saw how scared I was. I’d been in the hospital for 6 months and had never been scared despite multiple surgeries and having a ventilator for a month so far. I explained in writing and she guarded my room and insisted Nurse Ratchet not come anywhere near my room. I filed a complaint with the hospital when I was able to speak again. I hoped she was fired. About 14 months later I went to the hospital to bring flowers to a nurse who I was dating. In the elevator I saw “Nurse Ratchet”. Even though I was healthy, 6 inches taller than her and could knock her unconscious I started having a panic attack. Apparently because I was “on pain meds” they dismissed my accusation as likely a hallucination as Nurse Ratchet claimed.. I hope that nurse hasn’t killed anyone since, but that evil smile/excited expression she had while I was suffocating still gives me chills.

Unfortunately, this happens ALL of the time. It happened to my own grandpa and what’s really sad is that I had spent the day with him. He was so happy to see me and doing well. I learned that day from grandpa that there was a nurse that abused him regularly. In fact, I could see the sadness and fear of this woman in his eyes. Grandpa couldn’t recall her name, but he described her as a big, tough talking woman. He said that whenever he needed assistance and she helped, she was extremely rough with him and would punch him in his back and chest. He said she paid no attention when he asked for water or juice and most times, he never got any. Our family kept a supply of juice, ice creams, and other things especially for grandpa. Grandpa’s room was right beside the nurses station. He could hear them talking and even when I was visiting, I could hear them. He said he would hear them talking about him and other patients and he said they are the ice creams and snacks we provided for him. Grandpa asked me if I would shave him, but his razor and other grooming needs were gone. He said when they needed something for someone else, they would take his things. They also used his clothing on other men. They even took his pajamas and underwear! I bought him new shaving supplies and after I shaved him, I marched myself of to their desk and chewed them out. I actually saw a patient wearing a pair of grandpa’s pajamas. They told me that sometimes the laundry staff accidentally mixes things up. I told them that was absolutely ridiculous as we hand sewed labels into his things. I also asked about the nurse that was abusing him. They said they didn’t know who he was talking about, but that I needed to understand that my grandpa was old. He might be old, but he’s not senile! I was fuming. I even called my grandma, but she told me grandpa was making stuff up. I shouldn’t say this, but my grandma wasn’t the kindest person to my grandpa. They lived two blocks from the nursing home. You could actually see it from their home. Grandma was more able to get around than my grandpa and although, they had help, grandma wouldn’t stop complaining until they put him in that damed nursing home. I hated to leave him that night. We had a wonderful day together, but I lived in another state and had to leave. We both cried as we hugged and I told him I would be back to see him soon. The very next day, my mom called to tell me that my papaw had passed during the night. I was inconsolable. Two weeks later I received a phone call from a charge nurse at the nursing home. I’ll call her Jo. I knew this nurse very well as she had married a distant cousin of mine. She had no idea of my visit with grandpa or what we had talked about, yet some of the very things she told me, were the things grandpa had told me. The big, rough nurse was real and she mistreated a lot of patients, my grandpa included. Jo told me the nurse did hit grandpa and that anytime he rang for her, she ignored him, even though grandpa’s room was no more than 15 steps from her desk. In fact, the reason this charge nurse called was to tell me that the rough nurse had attributed to the death of my grandpa and she believed that had grandpa been given his meds he would have not died. Nurse Jo and the nurse grandpa didn’t like were both working the night of my grandpa’s death, but in charge of different floors. While at the nurses station together, my grandpa had rang to tell his nurse that he was having chest pains. Grandpa had a bad heart, but instead of his nurse immediately taking his nitro pills to him, she ignored him. Nurse Jo told her, “Mr. Chittum needs his heart pills. If you don’t have time, I’ll take them.” Grandpa’s nurse replied that she would take care of it. Nurse Jo was already making her way to one of her patients when she heard my grandpa ring again, asking specifically for his heart meds. Nurse Jo then heard his nurse comment, “He can die for all I care!” Nurse Jo said all was quiet after that and it was only a couple of hours until shift change. About 15 minutes before shift change, Jo said she stopped by grandpa’s room to check on him. She said she did this most every morning as she knew grandpa was family. She also told me that grandpa was one the sweetest patients in the whole facility. She said at first he seemed to be sleeping, but then she realized he was dead. Nurse Jo said her heart did a little flip flop as the details of the night’s events ran through her mind. She left him and went immediately to his nurse and asked her when did Mr. Chittum pass and why hadn’t she said something. The hateful old nurse told her she didn’t know he had passed, but Jo did not believe her. Jo told me that she hung around past shift change because she wanted to go over grandpa’s charts. Grandpa’s nurse had recorded her last interaction with my grandpa was to administer his insulin not more than 10 minutes of Jo discovering he had passed. She had also recorded giving him nitro pills almost 3 hours prior to the insulin. Nurse Jo knew this was a lie. She went on to tell me that by the state my grandpa was in when she found him, he had been dead several hours and yet, his nurse said she had given him insulin 10 minutes prior to her finding him. She said that the rigor Morris would have made given injections very hard. Nurse Jo told me that she had been thinking hard about what transpired that night between the hateful nurse and my grandpa. She kept going over his charts in her mind. Grandpa had a nitro pill along the time she had heard him ring for them and that his insulin had been given just shortly before the shift change. She kept repeating to me, there was no way possible that insulin could have been administered at the time his nurse placed in his chart. Rigor Morris had set up in grandpa’s body and by her calculations, grandpa had died around the exact time he rang for his nitro pills. So, his nurse was lying about everything. Nurse Jo said she highly doubted grandpa had ever been given his nitro pills. She believed that his nurse gave him nothing and grandpa had a massive heart attack. His nurse was straight up lying when she said she didn’t know grandpa had died and she was lying about giving him insulin, if she did give insulin, she gave it to a dead man. By this time Jo was crying and apologizing to me for not saving my grandpa. Everyone who knew his nurse, didn’t particularly like her. They all said she was rough and rude and lazy and didn’t want to process grandpa’s death. She had failed to give him his nitro pills, resulting in his death and she knew he had been dead for hours and had just pretended he was well and fine. Jo said when a patient of yours dies, there’s a lot of preparation of the body and paperwork that has to be done, including arrangements with the funeral home. It’s time consuming and his nurse knew that and didn’t want the hassle of working overtime, so she pretended grandpa was alive when she administered his insulin and she was going to leave his body for someone else to discover, but her plans were foiled when Jo found him. Jo also caught her red handed in her nasty scheme. Furthermore, Jo had done some background checks into this nurse. She was making serious allegations and she wanted to know more before saying anything. In checking up on this monster, Jo found that she had worked many different nursing homes and had been fired from 6 because of her behavior towards other nurses, staff, and patients. She was also suspected of stealing certain medications that she withheld from her patients. Jo told me she wanted me to know because she cared about every patient, plus grandpa was family and she said he was so kind and she knew he had been abused and felt strongly that had his nurse given him his nitro, he would not have died. She said if our family took it to court that she and two other staff members would testify against the nurse that let my grandpa die. You know, we can’t say for sure that grandpa wouldn’t have died anyway, but we can say for sure that his nurse did nothing to help me and then allowed everyone to believe he was alive and she even says she administered insulin to a dead man! When I took this matter to my family, I was grieving so much, but I didn’t get the response that I thought they would give me. My dad said to call his sister and I guess she thought she was comforting me when she said,”No, no one killed him. He was old. It was his time.” Grandpa passed over 20 years ago. I know my grandpa is in Heaven, but there’s not a day that I don’t think of him and there’s not a day that I don’t blame myself for not holding that nurse accountable. I will live with this regret all of my life. I love you GRANDPA.

@Chris Seimetz no, when a person LIVES in a long term LIVING facility that is their HOME and they have every right to record their interactions as long as it doesn’t violate another person who lives there, which in this case it did not as there is no other resident or their information in view. No personal information that isn’t in control of the patient should be in his room, anyway. It is the responsibility of the LIVING facility to protect and keep records and sensitive information away from public view. The resident (which includes their family) does not carry the burden of protecting patient information, only the facility. If the patient wants to record and share their personal information, they are allowed to because it is theirs. I am an RNA and my wife is an NP, we met when we were both healthcare aids in a LIVING facility. Also, the fact that they attempt to refute the legality of the recording and that action was denied tells you it’s not in violation of HIPPA. Unless you are trying to say that it violates the privacy and information of the employees. If you are, that is a ridiculous and nonsensical argument.

When I was a teenager, I crashed my car into a tree and broke my femur. In hospital, I told the nurse that I couldn't breathe through the nose tube. The nurses laughed and one said, "leave it to a teenager to say they can't breathe with an oxygen tube." I took it off and blew my nose. Clumps of dried blood came out and cleared up my nasal passage. She said, "oh" Yea. Oh. Stupid. Turns out, I had severe internal bleeding.

Whether it be a nursing facility, hospital or daycare. Don't just call on the phone and leave it at that. SHOW UP AND BE SEEN AND HEARD. ALL DAY EVERYDAY!

My aunt died from medical malpractice years ago. She was supposed to be released from the hospital the same day, but the nurse injected her with the wrong meds. It caused my aunt to have a massive heart attack and she was dead within minutes. Her idiot kids had proof and they never sued.

My father was killed in 1968 right before I was born in Vietnam. This was his second Tour of Duty, and I know he didn't want to go, but he had no choice and did his duty. He was killed by being shot in the chest several times. Probably some kind of machine gun fire. He was 19 years old. I think he knew he would not be coming back and that my friends is bravery. Veterans should be taken care of with the best care. Seeing this really broke my heart. I cannot believe anybody, let alone a nurse left the care for patients, would treat a veteran like this. The man that died was Brave but these worms are cowards. Shame on their lack of empathy.

@Lonnie Stevens They were not laughing at him. No one can be in a state of mourning all of the time and with every resident, in the case of medical staff. It gets depressing, which can lead to a number of illnesses. In my experience of interacting with cancer patients in treatment centers, there were many expressions of emotions including joy and laughter. The staff do a hard enough job already _and they are bound to it,_ it being their means of support. There is a line between disrespect and reality. They took care of the patient up to his last day, respectfully. There is nothing more anyone can ask of healthcare workers.
