Can’t Buy Me Love - one of the first tunes I arranged as a duo guitar piece many years ago and initially inspired by Mr. Guitar himself. . . Chet Atkins ( • Chet Atkins "Can't Buy... ) I used to perform it a bit more gypsy jazz style with more emphasis on ‘La Pompe’ vibe but as you’ll notice it has more of a blues feel now.
I did also draw some ideas, particularly how the melody is played, from this wonderful ‪@Remi_Harris‬ version - • Can't Buy Me Love (Gyp... (well worth checking out).
Since I am a professional pilferer, the solo section is compiled from many sources from which I can’t remember them all but wherever I can remember I have listed them below -
Chorus 1 - most of this was taken from a Bill Jennings tune called Glide On - • Bill Jennings - Glide On
Glide On is in Bb and is quite a bit slower but I knocked the solo in to shape to work in this context.
The second chorus starts with a familiar phrase and is a deliberate quote. . . for the life of me I cannot remember what tune it is! If YOU know what it is, please do tell me /comment.
The third chorus is generally my own but near the end there was a couple of ideas I got from a version of Cheek to Cheek by ‪@FrankVignolaGuitar‬ and ‪@VinnyRaniolo‬ which is no longer on KZfaq for some unknown reason.
In the fourth chorus I also used a lot of the phrases from that version of Cheek to Cheek. Although that video is no longer on KZfaq, I recreated their duo version on my own which you can see here - • Cheek to Cheek
