Senior year of highschool is the most fun time in a young persons life. You're getting ready for the next step, college. Leaving town. Staying in town. It's time to close the chapter of those walls in school! That's why it's called Cant Hardly Wait! Me? I loved senior year. I had so much fun. I'm still close with my buddies I grew up with. I loved the parties- enjoy every second young ones, it goes by quick!

It's a pity the scene with the vodka-filled watermelon missed the final cut (would've explained where the stoner guys got the watermelon slices from later in the film) and while I loved how eclectic the musical score to this movie was, I wish the Third Eye Blind song that made it in was 'How's it gonna be'- it's a poignant song and would've fit perfectly with that scene near the end where Preston is lamenting that maybe he and Amanda weren't meant to be while he's saying goodbye to Denise before heading off to Boston. Like 'Superbad', I always loved how the whole story takes place over a 24 hour period, makes it feel much more like it's really happening as you're watching it. I felt like this movie (better than most) captures both that optimism about the world young people have when they graduate, but also that poignant realisation that a lot of the people you've gone through 5 years with in school are going to drift off and go their separate ways- even the ones you thought would stick around forever. There was a real optimism about the future in general back in the late 90's- the cold war had ended, the iron curtain had fallen, the internet age was dawning, we saw the pending 21st century as this bright future that would bring us all closer together and anything would be possible... And instead all we've got is people arguing with strangers on social media and understanding each other even less.
@BingoNamo-gb8pz

That’s sad. I was thinking the music alone would make it worth buying, but they also cut out the watermelon scene?? Why….
@Bennyboy1985
@Bennyboy1985 11 ай бұрын
@@BingoNamo-gb8pz In the DVD commentary they (apparently) had to tone down all the references to drinking, such as editing out the vodka shot glass in Will's hand and replacing it with a slice of lemon/ salt shaker. My guess is that they thought a character excitedly crowing about "filling a watermelon with vodka last summer" was somehow encouraging underage drinking...

Clueless is iconic, 10 Things I Hate About You is outstanding, She's All That is awesome, The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off are the pioneers, Dazed And Confused has a stacked cast, but none of these films give such feelings and vibes as Can't Hardly Wait. It's the only move that anybody can relate to at least one of the characters, plus it has so many quotes that are already iconic or have the potential to become so. Why would you think that? If you were born in 1998,that would put you at age 23 and you're obviously no longer a teen but you don't have to be a teen to like teen movies.I WAS a teen when this movie came out and I'm almost 40 and I(like a lot of other people my age who came of age in the Nineties) don't think I'm too old to like and enjoy the movie and to watch it again from time to time,so you're certainly not too old to see the movie.

I don't care how corny these movies are, 90s teen comedies are still the best! They're a lot more "innocent" and fun than teen movies now. Yeah, they have dirty jokes but it's all so silly that it doesn't come across as raunchy.
@JR-ju3kj
@JR-ju3kj 3 жыл бұрын
I think that people can like to look back at the past/history through rose-colored lenses.When people talk about how innocent ''past times''were,I generally have to respectfully disagree with them.I remember commenting on a comments section for Back To The Future and people were talking about how the Fifties(where the majority of the movie is set after Marty McFly goes back in time to 1955 from 1985)and decades before them were a more innocent time for teenagers and I pointed out that Jack Nicholson was born in 1937...out of wedlock to a teen mother(and Nicholson didn't even find out that his mother was his mother until he was well into his thirties because she pretended to be his older sister because of the attitude at the time towards unwed single mothers and teen mothers).So the past wasn't more innocent at all,in actuality. Teens did all of the same stuff in the past that they do now(drinking,smoking,partying,being sexually active,etc),it's just that there was no social media and internet back then. To that end,I don't know how innocent teen comedies of the Nineties were and some of them actually did come across as pretty raunchy ALONG with having dirty jokes.I don't know how a movie like say,American Pie, wouldn't come across as lewd and raunchy.I'd say a girl talking about ''sticking a flute in her p***y''(her words),a dude f***ing a pie and masturbating into a sock qualifies as being raunchy.I liked the movie but sure,as a Nineties teen comedy,it was raunchy and not at all innocent. But if you felt like some of the Nineties teen comedies weren't raunchy and were a lot more innocent,you're entitled to your own opinion.

The only reason I can think is because they didn't want to push underage drinking too hard in the movie (I watched it with commentary) which is also why they changed it when the nerdy guy (Will) is holding a lemon but he was originally holding a shot glass. All the same, having a watermelon filled with vodka is pretty tame. For continuity's sake I wish they'd kept it because later on those stoner guys are eating watermelon slices and you're wondering where they got the watermelon from?
