You probably already know this, when the weather gets cold, I wear a great big mittens, and whenever I started to ride fast, my wheel would tip either to the left or to the right and I thought it was a whole bunch of things but then I realized it’s my aerodynamics and with big mittens you can raise your arm and push on the air. kind of like skydiving. If you raise your right hand, your wheel will tip to the left to compensate if you raise your left hand your wheel will lean to the right. It took a while for me to instinctually do this but now I take total advantage of that effect in corners and to stabilize when riding fast. It’s barely noticeable without big mittens on. With big mittens on it’s undeniable. It’s very uncomfortable when the wheel is leaning, one way or the other, and it feels like there’s nothing you can do about it. I suggest everyone get a big pair of mittens on and play around with it. It will change the way you ride.

Webbed leather gloves, similarly shaped to swim training gloves, might be a new product line the Hsaing could add to his accessories store. Until EUCs get an active gyro-stabilization feature, rider-skill and mechanical design constraints will make riding in turbulent winds a treacherous event. There's good reason to do speed tests in a tunnel, reducing unwanted cross-wind instability is near the top of that list. High-speed cornering and maneuvering will also benefit from mass-gyro control stabilization similar to those used on high-end Ocean Yachts and cruise-liners. Every high-rise in NYC uses a mass-pendulum to offset wind loads and earthquakes, it's only a matter of time before gyro-stabilized EUCs will be necessary to ride safely at high speeds.

I would love to know if any of these EUC manufacturers publish the radial and lateral run out tolerances for the rims . I would think that the fastest wheel would be engineered with the tightest numbers .
@tomnoyb8301
@tomnoyb8301 5 ай бұрын
Engineer's thoughts: First, Power defines performance, while Voltage merely allows for thinner internal wiring and/or less electrical loss. Solar panels struggled through this exact same tradeoff-space over the past three or four-decades and settled at 500 or so Volts as ideal. Moving-parts, water and safety may lower EUC's final 'best-Voltage' somewhat, but it'll be much higher than 150V before this burgeoning industry is finished. Second, max-speed is dominated by wind-resistance (Rwind α ν^2). That's why the night-ride went faster, because of the slicker wind-profile of leather vs cloth, etc.. (more...) Third, Wobble is something design engineer's should be addressing and shouldn't be left solely in the realm of users/riders. Wind profiles (clothing, cameras, etc.) may well come into play. Fourth, overall stability is enhanced by larger diameter wheels (as most riders already know), but racing requires accelerating the mass of that wheel. But it's not just the mass, it's the rotational-mass or so-called inertial-mass that resists acceleration and deceleration. Inertial-mass goes as the square of diameter, but only linear with weight on the scale ...mass (Im α m•D^2). Therefore, wheel diameter dominates in resisting acceleration, which is so important to racers.

Wind was definitely the biggest factor, I never flew in a windsuit but leaning full into 60mph wind on an euc prob come very very close. As none engineer everything I have read so far does point to dynamic for single or 2 wheels devices being super complicated and not well understood. And 60mph EUC is definitely in that area where very few ppl likely know what things helps vs not. And given the small EUC market "engineering" probably still consist of a few guys just building prototypes and trying it out. It is interesting that 60mph is starting to feel like a line that is difficult to cross for eucs, I can tell that exponentially more power will be required to push for just another few mph+
@SkeptikosUTube

@@OWGAC I think EUC wobbles are pretty simple. If the wheel gets out of alignment with your direction of travel (which tends to happen when there are bumps), then it gets tilted over which causes it to veer around in a curve. It curves around until it points in the other direction, and you have the same problem again and it tilts and veers back the other way. And so on. Anyway, so maybe you can tweak the suspension/tire pressure to handle the bumps better at high speed
@keokio7
@keokio7 5 ай бұрын
when it comes to hub motors, low winding/ high kv hub motors with tiny wheels is the name of the game. You're right about the size of the wheel diameter being the dominant factor. This was proven when some guy over at endlessphere smashed the top speed record for an ebike (around 100mph) trying to prove this point. The record was around 60-70mph before. This was about 10-15yrs ago before surrons and such. Since it was a high kv motor, he didn't have much volts through it maybe around 120v, but threw a lot of amps, couple hundred on a tiny ass wheel. Thats why u see ebikes with smaller rear wheels with hub motors back then before surron came out with their mid drives. problem with the EUCs that i see is the manufacturers are going to larger wheel diameters as they increase power and speed. I guess this is for stability reasons, but to put down power and speed you need the smallest wheel possible, with a low winding hub motor. Anyways thats all i know
@tomnoyb8301
@tomnoyb8301 5 ай бұрын
@@keokio7 - Good points. Hub-motors will advance to accept higher and higher voltages, just as solar-panel/controllers crept up in voltage over the course of thirty or more years. And while smaller-diameter wheels might always have advantages in racing, few EUC customers want anything to do with racing or small-diameter wheels. In fact, the likely trend will be toward larger-diameter wheels with bigger battery capacity and of course, higher-Voltages. Larger wheels are much safer over bumps and potholes. Yes, larger-diameter wheels have more more stability too. Industry learns a lot from racing, but vast volume of customers want better shock-absorbers and bigger batteries.

@@SkeptikosUTube That being the case, it seems that initiating a slight turn in either direction would be the best way to recover from a wobble, rather than trying to steer straight ahead, which would seem to cause the rider to continue the oscillation. I absolutely love the Lynx so far. It’s more powerful than I’ll ever need and has incredible acceleration with minimal effort. Suspension is top of the line and the build quality is probably the best I’ve seen on any EUC. It’s well balanced, comfortable, fast af, and fairly light weight and nimble. Best wheel I’ve ever ridden, no doubt about it. The only enthusiasts that shouldn’t buy the Lynx are the long range cruisers that need a master pro.

I own the s22 , ex-30 & for 2 weeks now the LYNX & I love all 3 and at this moment I am riding the Lynx most of the time but any of these 3 wheel are great and imo if 35 mph is fine to cruise at then you do not need to upgrade from the s-22 (not pro) as I just went on a ride & that wheel is so under appreciated i feel, I love the instant acceleration the s22 gives and how light it is but it has no where near the torgue of the ex-30 or the lynx and one thing I will say is the lynx's power actually makes it the safest wheel as I was going down a trail here in Jersey and I am riding on the street tire ( wanted to finally try a street tire since I always have knobbies) and I hit a part in this trail that was complete black slick mud and because of the power of the lynx it wouldnt let me go down & of course my balance helped but i dont thing either of the other wheels I have would have don't this and it is because of this motor and the non cut out... it was amazing to be able to make it out of that part of the trail .... My MIND WAS BLOWN from that... but anyway EUC's from leaperkim just feel like they are made better now that i have one from them too... great video & i couldnt agree more.

Regarding the Lynx pulling to the left, I have had alignment issues with my Sherman S where it pulls to the right. After aligning my wheel and still finding it pulls to the right, I realized it had to do with my shoes. My left shoe is always easier to tighten than my right shoe (I'm a lefty, so my left side of my body is bulkier and thus easier to fasten into the same size shoes), which gives my left side more control than my right. This means I can't control my weight on the right side of my body as well, making the wheel dip to the right. The solution, take extra care to balance the tightness of my shoelaces.

my guess would be that no EUC company test their wheels above 50mph, so wheel behavior that that kind of speed don't receive the same amount of tunning as lower speed. But even with the Lynx I don't think 50mph+ are practical, you really need perfect conditions to offset the risk of pushing the wheel this hard..

The longest recreational ride I'd regularly do is a 30 mile loop and both wheels can do that with some room to spare, especially at the speeds allowed there. What has me torn is the new safety features on the Lynx. A smart bms sounds like the way to go for a wheel that I hope will carry me for a few years. I'd definitely pick the Sherman S if kt had the same updated systems, so I find myself just holding out for a wheel that has both

I heard an other Lynx rider say that if you curve a bit left and right instead of going in a straight line you can prevent the wheel wobbling.

Mad man trying to hit those speeds in that weather. Hard to tell, but almost looks like you went into a divot in the road when you hit 58 and the wheel spun up a bit more with the loss of traction. Got those cold weather teary eyes. Hated riding my motorcycle in the cold because of that. You'd definitely get a bit more traction and less wind resistance in warmer weather, maybe a few less wobbly wobbles and feeling like you're riding on ice. Maybe there's a winter tire with a softer rubber compound available.

These wobbles came maybe from high height of pedals . I like Sherman OG low position . Top stability as it can be possilbe . Thats my bigest concern to change the wheel . Or wait for Begode ET max with adjustable pedal height . Or just stay on Sherman :)

Respectfully, we define practical. I think who invests more into a cohesive software and hardware solution will bring us to a wheel we “road runners” can travel a 45mph road cruising at 45-47mph (3-5miles), could buck up 52-55mph for a quick spurt and not ever worry about cut out if you are 60% or above capacity. Big wheels only, size and stability is key at these speeds. I ride at top of V13 and hate the fact that I can get to 42mph so quickly but lean like Magneto off pedals and creep to true 48/49mph. I find it quite nimble for its size. I think 100-115lbs machine is sweet spot for big wheel stability when high speed riding -slower wobble effect when experiencing. Wind resistance: idk about anyone else, but I’m a knife in wind. As an ever slightly changing shape, often with gear on that helps air slip on by me (like most wind resistant motorcycle jackets do-lol) we are actually pretty aerodynamic. Crosswind is only real danger as I see it. Most performance wheels don’t hit advertised speeds. Maybe with Lynx we are a little bit closer! Look forward to a deep dive of this wheel! Thanks much for your reply.

Considering all apps (& speedometers digital or analog) have a ~10% margin of error (usually lower), 60mph is still the endgame that not been easily reached as of now atleast. So to call the Lynx the fastest EUC is a misnomer. That said, for sure its right up there with all of them. To be fair, I see a similar performance for the incoming ET Max as well. While most things are subjective, incl build quality, no doubt the 40kg is a great +. We shall see how it performs in a direct vs with the Max. Let the games begin

get to know these wheels .. look past the initial review... the Sherman S can be unlocked to "High Speed Mode" I would argue The Sherman S can keep up and beat the Lynx and many of the top wheels in its current state.. As Zen Lee found out one of his race against it .. .. now when the Lynx (currently Locked ) is unlocked its gonna be a beast .. to compare the Lynx to the S this way is comparing Apples to oranges..
@OWGAC

Skill is a huge component when it comes to racing, matter fact I think its like 90% skills and 10% performance. so fact that someone beat Zen Lee with a sherman S don't mean that it is faster, give that guy a Lynx and see how fast he can really go!

How do u value the fun, thrill, rush and excitement of getting a new state of the art one wheeled machine that goes 60 mph? Impossible (imo)! Also, test the speed seated or is that considered cheating? Seated is the only way I ride high speed on my Master because of its poor stability. Can’t wait for my Lynx to arrive and I don’t need to go 60 to enjoy a great ride. Thanks for the try and still loving ur videos!

you have to lean really really hard to get it to accelerate past 55 and I honestly don't think you'll have enough leverage seated, but then again if you have a lot of room, you can just slowly inch your way up maybe? certainly better for wind.

I don't get how the front handle gets in the way of leaning. I have a Lynx and the only issue I have with them is how they limit pad placement. But with pads (as most of us have) as your knees don't bend the other way, you don't hit it. Edit: I see that he has his pads down lower than I do. Mine are as high as his rear pads.
@OWGAC
@OWGAC 5 ай бұрын
yes in a normal setup its fine, but I had to set my front pads super low so I can lean deeper for high speed. Not a problem for "normal" wheels but problem for a "race" wheel I think.
