Would really love to see you guys test this out on more difficult obstacles. All the stuff you went through could be navigated easily with a stock jeep (or one with a mild lift and decent tires).

I see all the comments below and I understand some critiques - I'd have used a wiring harness bulkhead quick connect pass-through personally - but I've never myself built a complete 4-link suspension from scratch. These guys show and thinking are not necessarily to my preferences a lot of the time but they have a job to do an entertaining show using their obviously serious skillset and talents. Should they have painted the fresh cuts, grinds, and etc? Yep. Grommet the wiring? Yep. Chosen something other than self tappers? Probably - but they have deadlines and other items you and I have no clue exist. They teach us a lot (simple bending jig made of bolts on tabletop, room for tubing flex by bending around a tube, and that it needs to have flex room built in your brake lines to prevent cracking) give lots of ideas (alternate mounting of cooler locations and etc) and show how to fab some stuff. Just like This Old House showed ideas on home building and remodeling for decades without being a "how to" show, or a fully DIY show- this is similar to inspire you to grow your skillset with ideas as inspiration. Personally - I'd have built an internal tube frame and hung the gas tank from it and cooler also with a false floor or custom organizer to use the back for carrying stuff along with you, slightly more aggressive tires, switched to a LH drive, and used a different carb. Probably added slider tubes on the side (with the requisite steps - I'm getting old), run a remote radiator fill tank, exhaust run out the back with the muffler very near the end, some sort of door or half door, and had grab bars on the roll cage. But they are obviously talented they built a pretty seriously capable machine, and can make changes and upgrades as they (and we) learn more and see additional changes and needs. They can't show each step, build/finish everything perfectly or these projects would last many months and you (and I) would lose interest in certain ones because not everyone is looking to go rock crawling, mudding, cruising, drag racing, road racing, or what have you. My fear for myself is that I will get hyper-critical to the point of chasing cars down the road shouting "Get off my lawn" from our viral induced social regression leading me to become a keyboard warrior extraordinaires - with no room for our differences. Peace, learning/growth, and prosperity to all of you in the future.

I really love seeing another dj5 jeep out there. I daily drive one and have a rear seat for passengers. This is an awesome jeep. I hope this inspires more people to put these back on the road. There is a guy in Boaz Alabama that has any part you need from fenders to stock fuel pumps. Postal jeep parts is the new of the company

I Had a 1975 DJ5~ 6 Cylinder, which I bought for $500.°° I was able to replace the wheels with Suzuki samurai rims and the extra tire mount, times were hard and it made a good plumbing truck, I replaced the front and rear bumpers w/the rear having a trailer receiver and I also installed a latter rack from bumper to bumper, it was good for hauling all my tools, latter's Pipes, I even hauled A/C's and Heaters on the roof we even used it to get into the arrollos to bring out sand and bed rock when we were building our house, it lasted me about 7 Years it was very reliable.

With some -- a few? -- MORE modifications, you could put other bodies on this. I'd try a 1/2 ton Chevy van body (short). This is like the best 4-by build EVER! This little guy looks like so much fun! And i love, LOVE straight 6s. Torquey little buggers (TLBs). Of course, i would air-ride it, but these days, i've found that i want to air-ride almost EVERYTHING! C-notches are a wonderful thing (tub the wheel wells!). This would pull a 16 foot toy hauler, easily. It's not fast, but when i'm cruisin', who cares? That 6 would make gas mileage MUCH better too, even when pulling. Also, the 1/2 ton van would be wide enough to cover the wheels, i.e. street legal (maybe with some flares, i.e. mud/debris protection).i NEED a 4by 1/2 ton Chevy van!!!,..and the chassis/suspension system of Junk Mail to put under it,...with a straight 6. 😃 $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I have the same style and color Covercraft seat covers on my 1999 F-150. I think this project did not do enough to show just how good they actually look, especially with that bit of red showing underneath from the old seats. That look ruins it for me. It would have been nice if that was addressed. It was very difficult for me to finally commit to purchasing these covers as it take two months to ship from the time of order and they make a major dent in your wallet. Once installed, their redeeming quality is that they look so good and fit so well.
