[ 2:37 ] Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.

He, alayhi salaam, forgot. Some scholars said he forgot, some said he did not know it was the whole type of tree. Whatever it was, Prophets do not choose to commit a sin, they do not knowingly perform a sin (so committing an act which is sinful while knowing it is a sin)

What if we believe that a Prophet can do a sin to be forgiven by Allah to be an example for us.

Sunni beliefs are prophets are sinless and don't have the ability to commit sin it is impossible for them to sin.

@@sameerbhol8950 ya nothing they do is a sin, but can they make mistakes as lessons for the masses like how Prophet Adam made a mistake and ate the apple, but he came back to Allah for repentance

@Sucatoe no, Adam didn't commit a sin or a mistake. God says he disobeyed me, bit I found no wrong in it. Therefore, the intention was never bad and it cannot be sin if God finds no wrong in it. The repentance was done for the purpose of elevation.

No one can commit sins or good deeds, we all do what الله is making us to do, only الله is responsible for his creation, if الله support bad then its a loss for الله، if الله support good then is a benefit for الله and right now الله is supporting bad that's why good is in a terrible situation.
