Did you improve it a lot? Yes. .I would argue that before, it was beyond collectible. If I saw it for $1-2, I would maybe buy it. Even then, I would have to store away from all my other books so really, I would have left it. Now? I would maybe pay $5? for it. Much nicer and as long as that mold is dead, I could store with other comics. Cool process though. Would be nicer to see on a comic with a small amount as I am sure you could turn a hurt book into a nice one if the mold amount was smaller.

It’s great, but we’re only talking about the grade going from a zero to maybe a .1 or .2. Which would be a NG?? This process would only realistically be applicable to a small amount of mold on an expensive book. However, it’s still cool to see the effort.

I know I subscribed immediately hoping you would do this. I did notice it was very hard to determine which videos pertained to examples of cleaning processes you do. @@patrickflynn9126 also I’m applying for a patent on my cleaning solution since I make it myself with a condensing column. I’m not sure that watching me die it would be useful to most people as they cannot get the cleaning solution unless they buy it from me and I can only make a limited amount (10-20 liters) at a time. I’d have to buy more equipment and raw stock to make more of it, but it does clean comic books very well.

@@patrickflynn9126 I appreciate that, to whiten I often soap clean as much as possible and will even do an ethanol spray on a slant board first. Then I typically follow up with a 5% bleach then 8% peroxide dose 50 micrometers at at time. Its pretty painstaking but I could do a video on it. I really need to get some better equipment. I dont do many videos in detail because it is difficult and annoying to manage the camera and lights when I am "in the zone" and I dont want to be bothered by anything else for hours at a time. As a reseller and collector of lots of nerdy stuff I find myself grading poor condition copies of items I want to keep for myself because when/if I get those high grades I sell them. I have a decent collection of Pokemon slabs in PSA 1s and 2s of some all time great cards but due to the low grades/perceived values I keep them. Every time I show someone the crystal guardians reverse charizard in a Psa 1 or any number of other cards they always want to buy them. Same story for comics, good cards and good comics will be good regardless of the condition and if you can save them you should.

Great video! Would you recommend using Un-Du to remove sticky glue like stains off the surface of Something is Killing the Children book?

Thank you for this. Gave me an idea. I have book that has a white cover that would be mint other than the brown foxing that is starting up.

@@maris4137 Thats a tough question to answer. I am certain that I can do it. I am uncertain that you can do it, but you might get lucky. There's just no way to know. Be warned that I ruined a great many comic books before I got to the level of confidence I have now. I would suggest you find 100 books you don't really care to much about and practice your skills on those first. That is a good start and you will learn a lot. This is as much art as it is science and you need both.

@@ImmaculateComics Thanks for your advice. I actually just googled a few how-to's and yeah, I think I'll try a few non-key books. I'm going to try using Hydrogen Peroxide. I hope I won't mess up. Thanks.

@@maris4137 same here. Try 6 or 8% H2O2 if you can get it. Houshold peroxide says it’s 3% but it degrades quickly and much of it is actually around 1.8-2.25% in the bottle. Fun fact : peroxide bottles are brown because in the old days they discovered this degeneration happened more quickly in clear glass than in colored glass (photdegradation) so they started storing it in brown bottles. They use iron , sulfur, and carbon to color the glass, incidentally. So that’s why the bottles are brown. If you can’t find a higher Concentration of peroxide let me know. Be aware you can hurt yourself with it... but the pain goes away in a couple of hours. Rick@rickmorgan.net
