A follow up and a very strong recommendation. After installing a Zotac GTX1650 in a HP z210 SFF case I found that the GTX1650 idle temperature seemed rather high at 44C and after watching another video I realise this was because the air coming into the case was coming through the heatsink of the CPU because the fan for the CPU sucks in air through the grill at the front of the case which is then heated up by the CPU heatsink before it was sucked in by the fans on the GTX1650. I speculated that If I reversed fan of the CPU it would suck air through the grill at back of the case which would cool the GTX1650 and then the air would be sucked through the CPU heatsink and the warm air would be blown out the front of the case. This would be better for the GTX1650 though it would more than likely increase the temperature of the CPU, but I suspected there was more temperature headroom on the CPU than the GTX1650. So, I decided to give it a go and to my surprise the idle temperature of the GTX1650 dropped from 44C to 34C and the CPU temperature was still under 40C at idle. I did a benchmark stress test on the system and neither the CPU nor the GTX1650 got too close to theirtemperature limits. I was actually very surprised the CPU stayed well within its temperature limits despite having warm air from the GTX1650 passing through the CPU heatsink. I'm almost certain if I had left the CPU fan the other way round the GTX1650 would have reached its temperature limit under the stress test. So, for anyone putting GTX1650 in one of these HP SFF cases I would say reversing the CPU fan is more of a necessity than a recommendation. I'm incredibly happy with this result because I'm putting this together for the general manager at work who wanted to drop a graphics card into an office PC for his kids to play games on. I got him to buy some additional RAM as well to increase the RAM form 8GB to 16GB. I found two identical unused matching 4GB strips on eBay. I’m pretty chuffed!

@@mayanksingh12 With all the videos on KZfaq about putting a GTX 1650 in a HP SFF PC I'm surprised no one else is talking about this issue and to me this is an obvious solution for anyone that regularly builds PCs. It's just understanding airflow through the case. As I put this together for someone else I can't tell you if temps reach their limit after many hours of intense game play but it made about 10C difference under idle and after running the bench mark the GPU temps didn't get much over 70C. However, I believe the Zotac GTX 1650 might run a little cooler than some others like the Gigabyte GTX 1650 OC.

Awesome! I just ordered the ASUS version of the 1650 LP. I have an around 3-4 years old Fujitsu Esprimo E920 SFF pc which I recently got from eBay for only 100 Euros. It has an i5-4590 quad core with each 3.3 GhZ + 16GB-RAM in it and an Asus GT730-2GB-DDR5 GPU. I use it for music production and am highly pleased with it. It's a real beast! I spent 50 Euros for the 50 GB Evo-SSD and now another 150 Euros for this GPU because I also do some video editing and a bit of gaming now and then. I guess that's more than a fine machine for 300 bucks. Loved your review, keep it going! Best from 🇩🇪

I have an HP sff i7-3770 with a GTX 1650 DDR6, 1TB SSD and it works perfect for 1080p. Power is fine because the CPU and GPU are never pulling full power. The 1650 runs a bit hot though so you will have to go into BIOS and bump up your computer fans a click or 2. The 1650 DDR6 is the most powerful 65W motherboard power LP GPU you can get without having a separate power cable.

Hi , Nice video. Very similar to my "spare games machine" 12 months ago ( actually maybe 24 months now ) i bought of Ebay a very similar machine HP 8200 I5 2400 SFF, i actually bought 2 of them, 1 x 8g ram and 512 hdd, the other 2g ram and no hdd ( it did have 8g ram and SSD but the computer shop took them out as they were worth more than the pc at the time - yah i think it was also the high ram price era 2018 ) $ 100 AU for both The cheapest machine remained at 2G and got a old 256 or 512 G hdd i kept as a spare, it runs Win XP specifically for older games ( although Win XP supports multi threads and processor most games dont ) but it is great, it later received a free junky nvidia SFF card that gave 2 monitor option but it is a old 10-12 year old low end card that is not much better than built in graphics - it just goes to a normal 21 inch LCD monitor and a 35 inch tv The 8G machine, i just formated it , then installed fresh Win10, it picked up the UEFI OEM licence on the 2nd or 3rd reboot and it is fully licenced, that machine has performed flawlessly. I have a similar Lenovo core2duo i bought new in 2014, after finding a youtube video on that exact model and proven with a GT1030 low profile card , i went out and bought a new card for @ $130 A few weeks later i "tested" moving the GT130 into the HP and it worked perfectly, the GT1030 draws only @ 30-35 watts, i replaced the lenovo's card with a totally silent / passive car as it runs 24/7 I also have a Dell 4th Gen I7, so all 3 machines all have "unique" mother board and power supplies, i have kept some info about patch cables and industry normal power suppliers, but the SFF you are pretty much out of luck, - a external power brick may be a option BUT luckily those 3 big name brands are 100% reliable, they are 2010 / 2011 / 2014 built machines and still going strong If you want to add extra drives, use the HP web page to get the correct SATA connector as they are color coded and are probably Sata 1 and 2 speed - but i think the mother board has them labeled sata 1,2,3,4 the first 1 or 2 are the fastest and the others the slowest (for slower dvd ) Regards George

Hello! Is this card really that much hotter, than the MSI 1050 Ti LP or just didn't get enough airflow in that machine or the stock fan setting is as lame as in the otherone? :O The above mentioned card doesn't go higher than 75 C in my Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF (i5 3470), but i had to make a custom setting for the fan, because it didn't really go above the minimum 40%. Well, a prebuilt SFF + LP card can be a little problematic, but it's still an easy way.
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 4 жыл бұрын
I haven’t used the MSI card so I can’t compare the 2 but these SFF cases get very little airflow so it is not uncommon for them to get quite hot. I get my temperature readings after a torture test so it’s an unrealistic load scenario which can make the GPU run hotter but a custom fan profile will always help with temps.

I have an in-depth stats screen overlay when I am benchmarking so I can check everything like that and the CPU was pegged at 100% but the GPU wasn’t which indicates a CPU bottleneck. I'd point out that this isn't a Dell. I have this particular HP. The PSU is a 240 watt, 90% efficient PSU. They are pretty well built because otherwise, HP would have replaced 1,000s of them by now. 75 watts for the GPU (Max) & 95 watts (Max) for the CPU (Xeon E3-1245 4c/8t) means there is still 40+ watts available for everything else. Ditch the optical drive and the spinning rust and there is enough wattage.
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 4 жыл бұрын
Did I say at Dell at some point in the video? Sorry that’s my mistake. These are office PCs designed to do low powered work so HP doesn’t expect they PSU to fail but they also don’t really want you to add in a graphics to add extra strain on the PC either. The power supplies aren’t generally design around the principle of pulling close to maximum wattage for long periods of time while gaming which adds extra heat and stress into components shortening their lifespan. The case isn’t well optimised to flush out extra heat either and heat plays a big part in the life span of your PSU so there are multiple factors which could cause the power supply to fail not just extra wattage it isn’t accustomed to. I wanted to make sure I laid out as much information as possible so people could make up their own minds and understand the risks.
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 3 жыл бұрын
The 300 watt recommendation is a worst case scenario. Not all power supplies are created equal and just because something is rated at a certain wattage doesn't mean it will supply it. Any low profile GPU isn't going to have a problem running in these business SFF systems. Total system power consumption will leave you with about 100 watts of headroom as it won't exceed around 150 watts.
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 3 жыл бұрын
You can never say that with certainty as the maximum rated wattage isn’t for a continual sustained load plus there is also power supply degradation over time and heat as factors. 75W for GPU and 95W for CPU is already 170W let alone a couple of watts each per drive and any other accessories can add up quickly. The power supplies used in these systems are intended for low power office use so while adding in a GPU is possible there are still risks involved that people need to know about.
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 3 жыл бұрын
@@EverythingbySam But I can... with absolute certainty. Let me tell you why. Sorry, this is going to be long. It's not a simple concept. First off, you've severely over estimated power consumption. You quoted the CPU's TDP, which is entirely flawed. While the TDP with graphics cards can often correlate with the power consumption, they aren't the same thing and you can see power consumption well over the rated TDP. Though that's MUCH less of an issue on LP cards, and entry level cards in general. However, with CPU's it doesn't even correlate. TDP stands for thermal design power, and it's a rating of heat, in watts. And power consumption isn't even a factor in the equation in which they arrive to the TDP. It's a largely arbitrary number and has nothing to do with power consumption. The i5 2500 is going to consume a peak of about 58 watts in an all core workload in one of these OEM SFF systems. I know, because I've tested it. If you wanted to toss on an i7 2600, that goes up by about 10 watts. You might see higher in an unrealistic workload like Prime 95 with small FFTs, but you still won't see 95 watts. The hardware just isn't capable of that kind of power delivery. You'd have to cram so much voltage down the pipe that the VRM wouldn't be able to manage it. You'd fry some mosfets and you'd probably kill the CPU as well, or at the very least, degrade the silicon. You wouldn't even see 95 watts if you put it in a board with much better power delivery like a Z series board. Now let's talk about the GPU, you said 75 watts, but that's the max. You won't really see a low profile card consume that on average. Even a 1650 that has dedicated PCIe power, like the Gigabyte Gaming OC model, is only going to consume a little over 77 watts on average (Tom's Hardware). It's likely going to be lower unless you overclock. So even if the GPU were consuming 75 watts from the PCIe slot, your worst case scenario is about 135 watts between the two. The rest of the system, is going to consume very little, and a lot of it will be on the 3.3v and 5v rails, not the 12v. In fact, the GPU's VRAM will consume power from the 3.3v, not the 12v. No, power consumption isn't continual, and it certainly isn't a flat line, but these power supplies might be low wattage, but they are no slouch either. These are business systems and Dell, HP, Lenovo... they overbuilt them. As someone who use to work for Dell and HP in the field, I didn't replace a lot of power supplies, for that reason. It would have cost them more to send someone like me out to constantly replace sub par power supplies. It was cheaper to overbuild them. The power supply in that Z210 is most likely a Delta or maybe a HiPro unit. They're high efficiency and they didn't cheap out on them. They have two 12v rails, and they supply ALL 240 watts on those two rails. So the fans, drives (partially), memory, and all the other incidentals that you say "add up" aren't even pulling from that 240 watts as they're consuming power, mostly, from the 5v and 3.3v rails. And since these are high efficiency units that never saw more than 100 watts of power consumption in their lives, it safe to say that degradation isn't going to be much of an issue unless the poor thing was completely smothered it's whole life. Getting back to consistency, that 240 watt rating is a consistent rating, not peak. So, the power supply is capable of dealing with peaks above 240 watts. Not that the hardware in question is capable of that. There's no way that the CPU and GPU are capable of peaking past 240 watts. They don't have the power delivery to do it. In fact, Anandtech tested a full size Zotac 1650 with an i7 7820X @ 4.3GHz on an X299 board and their peak power consumption was 215 watts for the total system. And Tom's Hardware never saw the Gigabyte Gaming OC peak over 81 watts (JUST THE GPU) on their dedicated power testing equipment. They called it "remarkably consistent" and LP cards are going to be even more so. But even if the i5 2500 and LP 1650 were to peak too high, these power supply's have over current protection. It would simply shut off to protect the hardware. There's literally zero risk running any low profile GPU in one of these business SFF systems, outside of a fluke, which is possible with any power supply. In the end, you won't consume more than about 150 watts because the hardware isn't capable of consuming any more and it's more than capable of dealing with any peaks as the hardware isn't capable of peaking past 240 watts, and even if it were, the power supply could still deal with it. And even if it couldn't, it has protections built in to mitigate that. It's objectively fine.

Thank you for filling me in on a few things I was unaware of or not fully educated on. The condition I have seen some of these units in power supply degradation is a possibility as I have rarely seen one have a nice easy office life with proper ventilation. There are a few horror stories out there of these sorts of SFF setups but unfortunately you can never really be sure what caused it to go wrong so could of been a bad PSU or it got flogged to death in its original office environment.

Hey! I know this video is kinda old but here's a tip for everyone who's struggling with bottleneck stutter. You can stop it just by activating V-Sync. And it isn't an excuse to not activate it. Why do you want 100 fps when your monitor is 60/75hz? I know that you get more "smoothness", but you also get screen tearing. It is better to limit the framerate to your monitor's frequency. You're removing those stutters and also you make that your cpu doesn't need to be at his 100%.
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 4 жыл бұрын
V-sync can actually degrade your card or power supply as more demanding scenes will cause your card to ramp up quickly to work harder pulling more voltage suddenly where as if you leave your FPS uncapped it is a constant voltage flow
@anotheruser7691
@anotheruser7691 4 жыл бұрын
@@EverythingbySam Depends on the scene. That's why i'm talking about when you are having lots of fps but stuttering. Also you can undervolt the GPU and you won't have any risk if you're getting not a lot of fps but still getting stutters. Low Profile GTX 1650's can be overclocked with MSI afterburner or in case of gigabyte, the Aorus Engine. But they will never reach more than 75 watts in power usage because of limitations by the PCI express lane.

@@EverythingbySam undervolting is not a big deal, it's just limiting the gpu's performance. And V-Sync does not affect the GPU's lifespan. In most of the cases it helps to improve the lifespan and even saves energy.
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 4 жыл бұрын
Undervolting correctly is a big though especially to get the efficiency curve correct, to low and you will be constantly crashing, to high and you’re dumping excess heat wasting power. Yes v-sync lowers your power consumption but when more graphical demand happens and the card all of a sudden has to ramp up pulling additional voltage which can degrade both the GPU and PSU because of the voltage spikes.

How is card drawing 75w when the limit for the pcie slot is 50w? also does it perform any worse than if you had the available power?
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t have another system on hand to check how the card performs at its best so I can’t answer that one. PCIE Gen 3 is rated for 75W, that is an industry standard and cannot be modified but most OEM system integrators advertise a lower spec than that on their website due to the low wattage of the included power supplies and not wanting you the pull the full possible 75W the slot actually provides.
@georgemaragos2378
@georgemaragos2378 4 жыл бұрын
Hi as mentioned by "Sam" the standard is meant for 75watt, but some cheaper boards with bad quality and thin wiring and solder welds get hot and will not push more than 30/40 watt constant - think of speakers, they have a peak value but cant run at that level for long Other mother boards use bios to limit max current via PCI because they have larger power supply that use 4/6/8 pin additional power to the video cards If you over tax a system the larger drain items will drop first, for example a older hard drive or CPU / case fan draw the most wattage, they will receive less power first, for video cars, it will actually still run but will work as a "underclocked" unit and will still run, but not to its full potential as there is not enough wattage to keep feeding the GPU - you will get glitches and black bars on the screen similar to digital TV in bad weather Watch say a youtube video on say power consumption of a PC when idle as compared to normal work then to using a benchmark program or say prime 95, the graphics card will run but not render as many frames / etc as it can because not enough watts is getting to the GPU to power it when working hard - I have seen a PC with the mechanical hard drive stop turning - one reason to go to SSD as they draw very little power because they are not powering a small electric motor to spin drive platters Regards George

george maragos hey, I have an optiplex 7010 and I used a power meter to see power consumption under load which was 70W since my PSU is 240W at 80% efficiency 192W could be drawn from the PSU. The GTX 1050Ti at load is 75W leaving me headroom of almost 50W from the 145W power usage. So I got it all figured out in the end.

Everything By Sam Oh, you mean the overlay you blurred out here in the video? would’ve been nice to see those clearly. Intel’s website says different, both base and boost are the same at stock, anyway if they were pegged at 100% then this CPU is very much pointless on limited hardware.
@EverythingbySam

The gameplay was background filler for the benchmark numbers and would of been distracting visually with your eyes focused on the wrong area trying to read the overlay. The CPU’s have the same stock clocks but the 2500K can be overclocked which bridges the bottleneck gap making it a more viable option. The 2500 is still useless but just with a less powerful GPU. I showed the overlay at the end in the Apex Legends gameplay as an example if you’re that genuinely concerned about it. The point of the video was, is this a viable option? as I reckon it would be a popular combo to consider and I showed and answer that which is literally what the video title is and I even made suggestions on what CPU would be a better option as well as what would be a better GPU pairing for the i5 2500.

This is probably a stupid question but I’ve tried doing research on this question but no certain answers. I have the Optiplex 990SFF with a 240PSU, I’ve heard people say you can run them with no problem due to the PCI-E slots the motherboard has. Can anyone explain how having a PCI-E helps? Because the way I see it, 240W is 240W, I wouldn’t think that a 300W GPU would be able to work? You stated that it could cause GPU problems and other problems, and I do not want to rebuild this thing (even if it is cheap).
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 3 жыл бұрын
A GTX 1650 is a 75W card, a PCIE gen 3 16x slot provides exactly 75W. The 240W has to supply power to the CPU, HDD/SSDs, DVD and anything else connected so it can be up to or close to the 240W limit quite easily which can cause issues. 300W is the suggested minimum wattage to add some extra overhead for a typical system. It is not the recommended wattage for just the card but for the overall average system that would have this card in it.
@EverythingbySam

By the time you add in an SSD and graphics card, then maybe upgraded the power supply and RAM, you've paid quite a bit for something that's very limited with old parts that have no warranty and could die at any moment. This is only worth doing if you can get the parts for dirt cheap. Decent SSD and graphics card aren't dirt cheap. If you really don't mind second hand a second hand gaming rig from a few years ago would be a better idea. I probably wouldn't do that either. Some of the newer games and apps are putting restrictions on which gen of hardware you use. Zoom won't do a virtual background without greenscreen if you don't have 4th gen Intel side or relatively new AMD CPU. And upcoming MS Flight Sim 2020 also requires 4th gen.
@EverythingbySam

This sort of build is for someone that doesn’t want to or afraid to build their own PC from scratch or even has limited space or needs portability. Instead of having to do a lot of work all you need to do is slap and SSD in and add a graphics cards and you’re up and running with little effort on your part. It’s a good way to get yourself into the door of PC gaming and a bit of tinkering without having to completely build your own.

@@EverythingbySamthere are still stores and large system builders that will supply you with a PC that is more suitable for gaming. These machines may come pre assembled but the small size and custom parts can make them a real hassle to work on.
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 4 жыл бұрын
You definitely won’t find a brand new system for this price. Yes it takes the hassle out of doing it yourself with a more upgradable build out but this not everybody wants that so this is just another option for people looking to join the pc gaming community.

@sammyfromsydney 4 жыл бұрын
@@EverythingbySam sure but you definitely won't get the same life out of this system as new hardware either. This is better than nothing if it is all your budget allows. But for anyone that can scrape more cash together I don't think this is a good option. I wish it were. I would be all over it.
@EverythingbySam
@EverythingbySam 4 жыл бұрын
Some people aren’t looking at upgrading their system in the future or would rather just buy a whole new one. Yes this has no real upgrade path but who cares, they will get their 2-4 years (estimation) out of it and by that time they may have a lot more money and a lot more interest in PC gaming all because a system like this got them interested.

i7 has faster core speeds and intern faster instructions per clock so it would definitely lower or eliminate the bottle.
