A quick game design video about the three fundamentals of fun. What is fun? How can you create it? Why is pressing buttons in video games any fun at all? Whether you're making games or just playing them, this should give you an introduction into the fascination psychology of fun.

@InnerEagle
@InnerEagle 3 жыл бұрын
@@MapleXD2000 You stretched the thing too much: If you are going to make a poker game, you have to do more than 3 buttons. -Random generator for flipping the card on the table and among players -Counter of best hand among players -Split of the money between who played in that round -Something that keeps track of blinds and a timer, -Animations -Sounds effects You picked a game where you have to think, in the example of the video, you don't have to
@MapleXD2000
@MapleXD2000 3 жыл бұрын
 @InnerEagle poker needs more then 3 buttons? No shit sherlock! Obviously there is going to be more mechanics underneath... just like there are underlaying mechanics in the game in the video. Your argument makes no sense tho because we're commenting under a video of a game that tries to be fun with only 1 button. In this context it makes totally sense to mention poker which, as i said, is fun with only 3 1/2 buttons. Also you're saying that in the game in the video you don't have to think, which makes me wonder if you even watched the video.... how are you going to time the button press perfectly without thinking about it?
@InnerEagle
@InnerEagle 3 жыл бұрын
@@MapleXD2000 In this video, the main goal is to make it entertaining the button, right? In an online poker game, the main role of those buttons doesn't create the excitement, also yes, I watched it, more than once to learn something BUT the fact is, I have a better example than what you said, you probably know it, it's called "Videopoker", that's mainly focused on touching buttons.

@ballom29
@ballom29 4 жыл бұрын
Not exactly , because there is one crucial ingredient missing for a good clicker game. Driving curiosity. You try the game , you get few points, you kill ennemies and ge tmore points, you level up, you do that for a while...and now? What's the difference between being lvl 1 and 50? If nothing change, you'll quickly gave up because you realize the game is entirely pointless. A perfect exemple of a very basic clicker game who doesn't that is "my name is mayo" you just click on a mayo pot, but you get funny punchline, new background, new cosmetic, ect...and this alone is enought to let the player and driving the player for wanting more. And more developped clicker games live with the promise if you persist, you'll be reward with unknow new uppgrades, new mechanism, new ressources ect...

I would have added "variety" over "fantasy" ... having changing things that keep you coming back to discover more things is a lot more compelling than just a cosmetic change. I've spent days playing simple games with no aesthetics and no theme simply because the gameplay is rewarding and full of meaningful and interesting decisions. To me that's much more important with good game design.

very nice video. i knew these concepts but seeing this in action like that is very refreshing and helped me to consider that kind of things harder in my game, instead of thinking the fun will come by itself.

This is how all those minute long games are made. "how do we make tapping the screen fun?" - make a bubble rise up when u tap the screen - add SFX - reward the player points for not dying - add pipes - make it impossible - make the bubble a bird - upload it to the App Store
