Can We Rescue This Damaged Switch Cartridge?

2 жыл бұрынIn this video I show you the inside of a switch game cartridge. I needed to open it up to try and rescue a damaged cartridge. You may be able to save a switch game that has a damaged cartridge casing.
If you want to make sure that the metal pads are not touching each other, use a multimeter in continuity/diode mode and put one lead on one pad and the other lead on the pad that may be touching it. If you don't hear a beep then you know the pads are not touching.

Nice effort! Not sure if you still have this, but you have a missing capacitor below the chip too (in the row of 4) @ 3:48 The chip may well be OK, even with those stress cracks, but it won't work without that capacitor 👍

I looked EVERYWHERE to find a replacement cart cover, finally just printed my own! A friend's dog bit 2 of his and one was cracked and the other wasn't, it's an easy fix if it's not cracked and the pins are still intact though. You can buy them somewhere, I don't remember where, but I saw them a couple of years ago.

How did you print your own? Scan and use a 3D printer? I looked everywhere too and found nothing.

@@ChavezDIY I did at first and then I found a .stl on either Thingiverse or Yeggi, then I added the proper supports for it and found ABS was PERFECT for my MP Ultimate and settings I use on Cura! I'll look through the two or just re-upload my version and attach a link if you like? I leave all of my work open-source, I want this stuff to stay free to the public. I only use Thingiverse now, so that I can easily monitor it and people let me know if someone is using my work (including others that I have modified) for monetary gain and I have it shut down!

@@ChavezDIY scanning is very hard on these, regardless of the camera. I used a Dynamism for awhile after having printed something (just to print something else, to print just to scan and print lol) to use my phone (with Polycam) and it wasn't good enough with my S10+, even though it's true 4K! Creality makes some really great ones and you generally want 100-400 pictures, even something like that should have at least 60-80 if you want a GOOD work of art. It's just hard for tiny projects and generally best to use the measurements and use trial and error, or if you don't enjoy spending hours for a tiny project (I don't), then use someones open file and modify it if it's not up to par! Couldn't really make it much shorter than that...

This was a great video wasn't so lucky my game was mario kart 8 and had the half chip and you bet it was cracked beyond repairable and look like it was in the best condition

I heard the private keys to create new switch cart backups are in the Nintendo Gigaleak. We need to be on this. Carts use NAND and caps. New refurbished is always better, even when it comes to retro consoles in time shells gets scratched and look terrible. You know the atomic purple gba well those are said rare however they can get pretty beatup in time.

I actually was a ton stressed over an auction for a wii u dev kit v4. i won it and it successfully arrived to my destination!. i find it has a 320gb SATA HDD that can emulate the disk drive. it also emulates the NAND over PC link with PC software disk. happily it arrived complete in flawless condition no disk scratches what-so-ever! so now i'm in the process of cloning the HDD and burning the software disk! wish me luck. i'm heading to store 'Microcenter' to do this swiftly before return period ends cause i paid $2100 for "working - used" only title states as-is. which is prbaly most ideal for a unit made back in 2013-2014. ntsc-j 3g ram compared to 2gb ram ~ retail. 200-500 manufactured unreleased! cost $5000-$10K AND v5 is actually useless without v4, i did alot of research before purchase. however i DID NOT know it was complete when i paid for the item. closely i looked at the plastic bag and faint saw that the PC software disk WAS THERE!!! :P Best News I Ever Had! On God No Cap!!!

RIP to your game. I ended up buying the same game again for my son, but I got a used one from eBay. I made sure the seller had a lot of reviews because there are scammers on eBay with no reviews selling stuff.

Yes! If the chip was not cracked I think it would have worked. I also wanted to make this video to show that you if you have damaged cartridge casing, you can replace it.

My dog got a hold of my borderlands 3 game last nite and chewed the crap outta it 1 of the pins is damaged and i think its beyond repair i guess my dog hunter likes the taste of switch cartridges

Hey so i put my cartridge on my fridge for like a year and it catched alot dust i tried tu use earcleaners that didn't work so if you have any ideas pls send thankz anyway

Alcohol is a great way to clean electronic boards and chips. Use a Q-tip (ear cleaner) and dip it in alcohol and clean the golden pins. IF that doesn't work, try to open the cartridge and look for corrosion that could have formed and clean it with an old toothbrush and paper towel while using alcohol.

My friends violet game chip just stopped working one day the yellow pins are in the right place I haven't been able to find a knife thin enough to open it. It's been taken care of good I tried blowing off dust in the Nintendo switch and on this chip I've wiped down the chip it's still not working what do you think it could be maybe a dead battery in the chip or something because other games work in both our Nintendo switches

There are no batteries in the chip. The storage chips can fail and even if you replaced the chip, you still need to reinstall the game software back to the new chip. Best you can do is open it and clean everything with alcohol and a Qtip. You can try to contact Nintendo for replacement and see what they say en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5068/~/game-replacement-options

Digital games are better, I mean whatever gameplay hours you did in your game its still 100% working and you don't need to insert every game card just to change your game.

There's pros and cons to both. It is much more convenient to buy the digital game. The downside is that you can't let anyone borrow the digital game and you cannot resell the digital game if you wanted to.
