Stoked to see a new update on this! It's crazy how much that CNC machine can accomplish, even when its limits are exceeded. Was wondering the last week or so where you had gone, glad you finally accomplished this leg of the journey! Can't wait to see all the guys get together on this thing, even if it's just for troubleshooting lol

Yeah this took longer than I thought. I can’t believe in the beginning I said “by the end of the day” and it ended up taking weeks. My time estimates aren’t good.

A tip I have for cutting the circles, score it with the cnc and trace it with your plasma cutter

Stainless steel work hardens very easily always keep it cool and move slowly (both speeds and feeds). Also the coolant not only acts to cool the bit and workpiece, but is used to flush millings away.

When it comes to anodizing, none of it holds up to weather abuse and direct sunlight for long periods of time. It takes a lot of care, waxing and cleaning to maintain it to be exposed. That’s why most boats that do sit outside or uncovered their gauge bezels are always faded

Not to be that guy, but after sanding you're feeler gauge was not 15 thousandths it was 15 ten thousandths or one and half thousandths. Anyways looking good.

Cutting thick stainless is a major task. I made a water cooled exhaust for a twin turbo rotary using some heavy ss plate and man that was painful. I still don't get how the 02 sensor can work with a cooled exhaust, it must be hot to work, still trying to figure out how to do mine (not using the rotary now using a 3.8 ford v6) For my boat its a family boat, but for yours I'd just run over the back headers no water cooling, it is WAY easier, and if nobody is sitting back there or climbing into the water just a couple guys in front, you should be good! and it sounds awesome with open headers.

The big marine exhaust manufacturers seem to have their build in O2 sensors in this area so I’m guessing it’s close enough to the engine that the exhaust temp is still hot enough. Might be interesting to put a pyrometer on it and see what the actual temps end up being, we’ll try and do that.

Thats a real exhaust! But theres always a but - no vibration decoupling? Usually you do a part of the exhaust as a rubber or silicone joint so the engine vibrations dont transfer to the hull and wreak havoc there.

Yessir I didn’t mention it but you can see it in some of the video and in the thumbnail. There’s a 4” diameter rubber exhaust coupler between the exhaust tip and the new exhaust we made. Hopefully that allows enough flex to keep my crappy welds from cracking.

Hopefully an expert stainless welder will chime in. Ive tried it a couple of times and I was far worse then you!!! so Kudos for what you got down. Im curious if you had fed purging gas inside the tubes if that would have helped. Experts????

I got this product called “Solar Flux” that you mix up and put on the back of the weld which is supposed to help keep you from needing purging gas. It seemed to help some, but I should have probably just got the gear to do the purge since that’s how it seems like the pros do it.

LS engine are nu 2 me what cid is it ? i assume a 6.3 ltr an if so what hp ? thanks

This is an original LS1 the first type they came out with in, so it’s a 5.7 liter aluminum block and aluminum heads. Came out of a 1999 Camaro. It dynoed close to 500 hp many years ago when we had it in our racecar, but it’s sat in storage for a long time.
