The Baltic Sea is an important trade corridor for all the countries around it and several pieces of critical infrastructure run on its bottom. When Finland and Sweden decided to join NATO, several people expressed their delight with the decision by referring to the Baltic Sea a NATO lake. However, as recent incidents with undersea infrastructure show, these calls might be overly optimistic. In September 2022, the Nord Stream pipelines were ruptured by an attack and in October 2023 a gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland was damaged along with several communication cables. Can we use the momentum created by Finland and Sweden’s accession to look more seriously at the security of the Baltic Sea? What can be done to protect ourselves from hybrid attacks?

What for? To increase tension I suppose. Unfortunately, it is a very dangerous policy by NATO, which can lead to nuclear exchange. Taxpayers in NATO countries should reconsider, what is good for them and what is good only for leaders of those countries.

'Indivisible security' vs NATO expansionism leading to ever escalating instability, confrontation and conflict. A significant majority of Ukrainians opposed or were agnostic about joining NATO in 2008. It was a belligerent policy pushed by the US/UK primarily. The 21st century began with George W.Bush withdrawing from the Inter-ballistic missile treaty while pursuing and funding missile defence systems, declaring his headstrong determination to expand NATO eastward before launching the invasion of Iraq on bogus evidence. As with Iraq, the subsequent regime change operation in Libya rode roughshod over international law. The Wolfowitz doctrine/Project for the New American Century has meant interminable wars, failed states, populations displaced, record levels of military expenditure globally.
