It's been scientifically proven through decades of research that a great diet, some cardiovascular exercise, and plenty of sleep (8+ hours) is the key to staying healthy, both against the common cold and cancer alike. THAT'S the way to "boost" or support your immune system

As someone with insomnia I would like to stress that it’s very VERY important to get normal amounts of sleep if you want your immune system to be working at its best possible (they said this too briefly imo). I’m no scientist but just out of the 15-ish years living as diagnosed with chronic insomnia, the immune system is crazy weakened when a person does not get normal sleep. I have to wear masks in large groups or while traveling regardless of whether there’s a pandemic or not.

I agree, I'm someone the requires considerably more sleep than what is concidered normal, on the few times in my life that I have been awake for over 24 hours Ive caught a cold everytime.

So, Dr Jen is correct if you are ingesting enough Vitamin C in your diet, but if not then taking Vitamin C will help you "boost" your immune system when you have a cold (it will help lessen recovery time, but taking Vit C will not prevent number of colds susceptible to): "The science shows that overall, regular ingestion of vitamin C had no effect on the common cold, as far as in the incidence (or how common colds are). Now, most of these studies looked at people who took more than 2,000 mg of vitamin C, which is a very large dose. The recommended dietary allowance, or RDA, is 75 mg for most adults, and 2,000 mg is the upper limit - you don't want to go over that because you'll have gastrointestinal distress. [Vitamin C] does support a healthy immune system. So if you're not getting enough vitamin C, you will be more susceptible to colds. If you are taking vitamin C while you have a cold, it could prevent complications such as pneumonia by boosting your immune system." See: ("LiveScience, Does Vitamin C Really Help Colds?")

Would love to see an episode on stress and the immune system! Stress has such a massive impact on the immune system. Ironically someone who is worried about illness, researching immune boosters and rushing about buying vitamins and other health potions, if stressed is going to have a lowered immune system compared to someone who is chill AF and never worries about it

Stress causes our adrenals to release cortisol, and corticosteroids are natural immuno-suppressants. That's why stress causes fall in immunity..

The things she mentions at the end of the video are highly important to a healthy immune system: enough sleep, a balanced diet. I’d add enough sunlight exposure and plenty time in nature as well as exercise have lots of studies showing the positive effects on your immune system. When I struggled with insomnia for 6 months I was sick non-stop, 3 months of constant UTI’s (have only had 2 prior to that in my entire life), constant colds and so on. Once I got back to normal sleep, all those are no longer an issue. Your lifestyle can have a huge impact on your health.

I have weak immune system 😢😢😢i started getting perilous signs from my body i always feel tired i am anemic and i am underweight and i started getting sore red lumps in different parts of my body especially my eye tomorrow i am gonna see the doctor even though i think the problem with my immunity bc i did a little research on my own and all the symptoms of weak immune system matches with mine from now on i will never take my health for granted again i am gonna improve my immune system and eat healthy food and exercise and read and watch relevant videos and books i m gonna save this video next year if i am still alive i am gonna edit this comment and write my journey of strenghtenning my immune system i hope anyone who read this comment to wish me good health i really need that❤❤❤

They make money in treating diseases and symptoms so that you can keep paying for medicine$ they get paid to prescribe you repeatedly. Okay but she's failing to mention that MOST people are Vitamin D deficient, because we're not as outdoorsy as our ancestors, who got all the D they needed from the sun. It's also not available in high-enough amounts in the average Western diet, unless you like to slurp down sardines every day. This lady is literally the first and ONLY doctor I've eve seen discouraging Vitamin D supplementation. Sure she said only if you're deficient, but in this one particular nutrient you probably are.

Vitamin D is known to regulate the immune system. The pandemic has highlighted the need for adequate levels and there is a lot of research showing that deficiency results in a more severe course of the disease. Obviously sunlight is the primary source of vitamin D but if that is not possible supplementation is recommended.

Not sure what this sicentets is Talking about been Taken vitamin C supplements and zinc supplements for the last five years I have not had any colds or flu or any other virus in the last five years since I have been Taken Theases. People are Getting the covid vaccine and they are still catching covid after being vaccinated.

That's misleading though. Yes, people with vitamin D deficiency get worse COVID symptoms. BUT, supplementing Vitamin D does NOT reduce covid symptoms! Because correlation is not causation. The likely explanation is that people with low vitamin D have that deficiency because they haven't been exposed to much sunlight, and *another* effect of the sunlight protects against covid. Likely near-infrared radiation boosting intracellular melatonin. Moral of the story - don't jump to conclusions, and also go outside and get some sun ^^

Actually: The sun's energy turns a chemical in your skin into vitamin D3, which is carried to your liver and then your kidneys to transform it to active vitamin D. So no, sunlight is not a source of anything. It helps the process.

Great way of describing how the immune system in humans actually functions. Optimal function is our immune system's default status, you can only do things to weaken it, nothing to "boost" it

@@jmarevalo1850 Disclaimer: I am not a doctor or trained medical professional so I may get this wrong, please talk to your doctor regarding medical knowledge especially when it may greatly impact your long term health. Yes, your body does need those to function but taking them when not needed can cause problems, such as taking too much vitamin C when not sick, this can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Or taking high levels of vitamin D when you don't need it, which also causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea and excess levels of calcium in your blood. Your immune system only needs a certain level of vitamins and minerals, no more no less.

@@solaris3536 im not an professional either sorry if there is something mistake, i believe magnesium & vit k2 will prevent the calcium from overloading through our blood since vit k2 and magnesium are calcium antagonist which prevent the soft tissue to calcified and k2 & magnesium are known to send back calcium from going soft tissue back to the bone that's why vit d3 & k2 supplement is popular, but there is something wrong with vit c supplements i rather get it from food than supplements, you are correct overdosing on vitamins is dangerous unless you get it from food everyday, vit and mineral from food is much safer compare to supplements, supplements can only used if a person are really deficient in a certain nutrient, but taking vitamins and mineral in normal amount or dosage everyday is crucial for human health.

You can do things that are good for your body and your immune system You can weaken your immune system, and you can also do it every favour you can so it works at its optimal level (not boosted, just top condition)

Totally agree. We can't boost our immune system beyond its potential, however we can correct deficiencies that can negatively affect the immune system. I know that since I have taken Vitamin D to correct a medically detected deficiency I simply don't get ill during the winter anymore. Previously I got a horrendous cough every year that made me sound like a horse and lasted months. Goodie for me that my immune system is able resist infections so well now its back to its normal self. This doesn't mean taking vitamin D will stop you or I from getting an infection, but it may help if you have a deficiency making getting an infection more likely.

Read a recent study that found that the body can produce imperfect antibodies alongside the correct set to take down a pathogen, but it still remembers all the versions it made… which may help if a variant of the pathogen reinfected you later… which could better match the old imperfect antibodies than the original “heroes” from the past infection.

@@rajeev6126 Hi, I'm a female btw And I improved my sleeping habits by forcing myself to get some sunlight in the morning and I feel definitely healthier! Also, I started to do cardio exercises, taking multivitamins and supplements like irons. I think they are all contributing to my health.

Thank you for your video! That confirms my consideration of being in the right side of healthy lifestyle: to get up and go to bed early, eat good food, do sports. I just can add: for me I understand that life without carbs (only in vegetables and berries, it's called LCHF diet or KETO diet) and sugar has a lot of advantages e.g. you don't want to eat sugar at all (I used to have a sweet tooth), you have more energy, your body has no swellings, you health gets improved. You just need to check up every year and get some supplements if need.

LCHF diets are correlated to increased mortality. High fat consumption (especially the wrong kinds) are correlated with insulin resistance. Your body runs its best on carbs, this is bad advice

My personal experience is that making sure I get enough sleep and taking 2-3 thousand IU of Vitamin D during the cold & flu season helps immensely in preventing those sicknesses.

I monitored Multivitamins and omega3 supplements helped my immune system as after taking them I saw I was getting sick less and when I did get sick the recovery was much quicker. Healthy diet is not easy to achieve these days when even the veggies lack essential minerals because the soil in depleted of them.

That would make sense if you were deficient in whatever your supplements were providing, but it sounds like there could definitely be other factors you're not considering that could have made you feel better.

sleep, eat and exercise are still the most effective way to bring our body to top form, but it is not easily achieved to get in good habits on the other hand it is not that difficult just take one step after the other. One fruit more a day, a 10min stretch/workout and going to bed at a specific time is not that much more

Take it from someone with an immune “system” that’s constantly in overdrive due to an incurable autoimmune disorder.....it doesn’t feel good for it to be unnaturally overactive. I’ve had this autoimmune disorder since I was 12. My immune cells attack my own tissues, including those in my bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, various organs (skin, eyes, lungs, etc.). My bones itch and ache, I have arthritis and bone spurs in my spine, arthritis in my pelvis (SI Joints), arthritis in other areas (hands/feet, for example)-all because my immune system is overreactive. Any tiny injury or infection-luckily I rarely get sick, and the only up-side is that a cold will last a couple of hours-will trigger a flare-up of my immune system. These flares (the arthritis/immune cell attacks/organ issues, plus extreme fatigue-remember how it feels to have the flu? Yeah, that’s how it feels, plus intense joint pain/stiffness....) can last a week or two, or several months, aka as long as I have an injury. Currently, for example, I have a badly sprained ankle which is still not fully healed 1.5 months later, and my immune system has been flaring this entire time, getting gradually worse as the weeks pass. So yeah, who knows how much damage is being done to my bones/joints/organs while my immune cells continue to attack them while I wait for my injured ankle ligaments and tendons to heal.... Long story short: like the doctor said, you can’t really “boost” you “immune system,” and if yours is working normally, consider yourself lucky. Sure, you may get the occasional cold or illness from time to time, and that sucks when it happens-but I guarantee you it’s better than having an immune system that struggles to protect against any infection or one that is so overreactive that it perceives your own native tissues as though they were viruses. If yours is in good condition, leave it alone and continue living a (hopefully) healthy lifestyle.

Did you try Wim Hof's method using cold exposure? I think they are still recearch the effects of allergies and cold training. Maybe it is interesting to look at it.

@@dannythemedic that’s not even how that works. The immune system works the best with adequate exposure to antigens, proper nutrition (this does not include unneeded supplements) and a generally healthy lifestyle (which does not involve any special and overly specific routines). If you’re immune system is not suppressed, you don’t need any “boosting”. The human immune system is the second most biological system that we know of, you can’t simplify it to that extent.

I was interested as just having got a new bottle of ginseng. Then she said the word vaccine. Then I looked at the date of the video. A bit coincidental at a time where the governments in many countries are doing their best to amp up the number of people getting vaccinated. Not for or against vaccines, just turned me off.

Truth! After 2 years of no sickness, I got a bacterial infection on my throat which reignited my sinuses (which I had troubles with in the past). I got a fever of 39° on one of the days and instead of feeling shivers, I felt heath. I also didn't feel bad or tired, I just got in the shower, wham bam cold shower later, good as new and ready to sleep. Sleeping and the showers kept me good as new!

Thanks to this book, and the life changes I made, my body was able to clear a precancerous cells diagnosis from CIN-3 to completely clear with no surgery. I was also told that I have one of the viruses that cause cancer (I requested the type of strain I have). The sad part is that the gynecologist never asked what I did. I know my immune system took care of those precancerous cells. I didn’t just take the “magic” vitamins, I made a life style change!!!

I too was constantly sick in Philippines :D. What do you think causes this? The food is kinda poor there. Healthy options hard to find. Also the streets around my neighborhood were permanently dusty. Of course it's a bit over populated too so lots of stuff going around.

I really got the impression that she answered a question that wasn't even on the table. "Boosting" the immune system is a marketing trigger but if there is such a thing as a weakened immune system, there is the polar opposite, the normal-functioning immune system. it is impossible to boost your immune and your body WILL get rid of anything it doesn't need, but the truth of the matter is that less than 20% of people actually keep a normal-functioning immune system, let alone keep all bodily processes normal. that's why you most likely need supplements, but not any type, you will need functional supplements. herb supplements are very unspecific and should always be ingested after consulting a naturopath but supplements such as Vitamin C. Zinc, Magnesium and Calcium, those are necessary to keep your body functioning at a normal rate, not "boosted". Your body needs calcium for certain functions, it needs copper as well and melatonin as well. The same way you don't question whether you need protein or not to keep your bodily processes going, functional supplements shouldn't be questioned. I'd dare anyone to go get their blood checked out and see if they don't have a nutritional deficiency of any sort, I still haven't seen one in my office. That's why I say that everyone needs some sort of supplement, not to boost, but to maintain and avoid declination in your health.

She talks as if it's common knowledge what a 'healthy diet' looks like, or like it's common to actually consume a healthy diet. It's not. Most people eat too little fruit, greens, beans, nuts and seeds and too much processed food (meat burgers, fries, sodas etc). So yeah, most people CAN boost their specific immune system (compared to where they're at): by avoiding the unhealthy stuff & focusing on the healthy stuff.

Also, pay attention to your gut biome! Your digestive system is a direct route into the body and the key to absorbing these nutrients you need to keep your body running smoothly. If you need to use more nutrient stores to fuel your body while fighting off a pathogen, you dont want to get caught deficient and have a way harder time recovering! Good gut bacteria, lactobacillus and others, and a good range of eats, veggies and fruits and fiber, will help immensely!

Easy, good food, good excersice (4-5 times a week, with med-high intensity), good sleep, no smoke, alcohol nor drugs, getting enough sun, producing you own food (without chemicsls) and the Wim Hof method (cold and breathing excersises).

I had a blood test at the end of 2019 which showed I had a deficiency in vitamin D so I started taking Vit. D supplements. Got Covid19 in April 2020 with very minor symptoms. Was it the Vit.D supplements that helped protect me. 🤔

My problem is lack of sleep, I skip meals , anxiety, horrible diet & I don’t drink enough water. I also have allergies such has sea food & pollen. I have a history of asthma. I get frequent sinus infections & colds. I also get Acid reflux & IBS symptoms. My stress makes me also not want to eat which is why I lose weight or remain the same weight. They're more like the vaccines. In that they teach the immune system to attack those cancer cells specifically. Rather than "boost" the whole immune system. Without the therapy, the immune cells don't know to attack the cancer since it's recognized as part of your body. They tell the attack dogs to "go", rather than make the attack dogs stronger.

Yeah I’m gonna go ahead and say I had chronic upper respiratory infections and frequent sickness until I started eating Whole Foods. Lots of fruits and veg. I was sick every 1-2mo. I stayed well for almost a year til I fell off. Not to mention there are more in plants than just vitamins. So take out of that what you will.

LOL... My body is a testament to the opposite of everything you said about the immune system. I do NOT avoid germs. I do NOT use anti-bacterial gels, ever. I haven't had a flu shot since 1979 and, coincidentally, that was the last time I had the flu. I rarely eat "right" and often don't get as much sleep as I would like, and I smoke about a pack per day for the past 46 years. And, I don't get sick, except for a common cold every 5-6 years. The only reason I bothered to get the CoVid vaccine is because it boosted the number of vaccinated persons the governor wanted to reach before ifting restrictions.

Being a dance teacher does not exactly give you any credits anywhere. But then again even blind chickens can find corn… so; You need to write a paper on your theory and then have that paper evaluated by actual scientists and the only way for you is to get in touch with PhD scholars in neuroscience and then convince them to co-opt the paper. Your chances of actually convincing anyone are bad since you don’t have the vocabulary nor the prerequisite knowledge of the subject matter. The easiest way is to go get a doctorate in neuroscience yourself and then start publishing papers. But that’s IF you have a new idea that’s actually worthwhile looking into and your chances of winning the lottery are significantly higher than that. Judging by your profile picture you’re not really into the science of anything and more into selling an idea and become a guru.
