Los del norte de Europa invadieron Italia (ostrogodos), Galicia y norte de portugal (Suevos), resto y la mayor parte de España (Visigodos), y Argelia y Túnez (Vándalos). I think north americans think "latin americans (aka Latinos) are a race" when in reality, it's more like a nationality and anyone born in a latin american country is latino americano, no matter the race. Edit: when I say "nationality", it's not "only from one country", I mean that in a way, it works like a nationality, if you're born on Latin American country, you're Latino. I never said "latino" is from "one single nationality".
@AndresSalazarAutos
@AndresSalazarAutos 3 жыл бұрын
Latinos are not from one single nationality, actually it is the name given to all the people from countries south of the USA who speak either Spanish, Portuguese or French (I could add Rumanian and Italian but for what I know those 2 languajes are not widely spoken there). Based on this even the Spanish, French or Italians should be considered latinos but they are considered as white... go figure. Latino is neither a nationality nor a race... heck race is just something made up by people who like to categorize people, something very common in the USA, they even have an immigrant format where you have to state your race.
@samhg3658
@samhg3658 3 жыл бұрын
@@AndresSalazarAutos in my understanding, Latino is a nationality. I think you are wrong with the language view and the "italians and Spanish should be considered latinos" just because of the language, even if the language is tied to being "latino" After all, "Latino" is from "latino americano" (latin american), so it is anyone from Central or South America (if you don't know, this whole part of the world is know as "Latin America, with North America being called "Anglo-Saxon America", at least that I was taught here) but colonized by the people with the languages derived from Latin (italian, spanish, french, portuguese, etc). Latino is just the way americans say it. What they mean is latino americano, so only people from the americas that speak latin derived languages count. Furthermore, I actually research it before. Latino Americano IS a nationality, it's anyone born in a Latin American country, from Mexico to Argentina, all americans, but all speakers of latin derived languages. They're all latin americans, they're all "latinos". Well, if you count only the literal term of "latin derived speaker", yes, many european countries would be "latinos", but that isn't what people mean when they say "latino". They're taking a shortcut for "latin american", even without realizing it.

Something that a lot of people don't get is that in the United States the term ''white'' means something totally different than what it means in Latin America. In the United States a ''white person'' is someone who is Anglo Protestant. If you are not Anglo Protestant you are not ''white'' in the USA. If you're from Mexico and you come to the United States it doesn't matter if you have white skin. You don't qualify as ''white'' because you're not Anglo Protestant. I mean there was a time in the past when Irish, Polish and Italian people were not considered white in the USA because they we're catholic. If you came from Europe you had to be from a protestant country in order to qualify as ''white''. If you came from a catholic country in Europe you could not join the white club. The meaning of the term ''white'' in the USA is vague and changes over time.

In the USA the term white is used to mean anglo-saxon looking (Germanic Celtic, Viking) and because there are 40 million mexicans in the country, any indigenous appearance is identified as one. Latin is Roman, they latinized the Greek, phoenician, Iberian living in Hispaniola. Today there are some pure European born in the Castilian speaking countries, 1% Dominican (99% african descent). Argentina and uruguay 95% White some indigenous. When the "Indians" were made hispanic, they started speaking and using spanish names. The cultures are similar but not the same.

To say that Italians are not Latin is to be completely ignorant. The direct heirs of the Latins (Romans) are the Europeans: Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese, French and Romanian. Is it true that "Latino" popularly today refers to a Latin American person? Yes, but that popular acceptance should not erase reality; Europeans are Latins/latinos, Americans are Latin Americans/latinoamericanos and also there are Africans with Latin heritage or influence (French: Congo, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Ginea, Mali, Chad, Niger, Burundi, Togo, Central African Republic, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritius, Cameroon... / Portuguese: Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea Bisau, Madeira / Spanish: Equatorial Guinea, Western Sahara). And yes, Haiti and French Guyana are also part of Latin America (and Quebec objectively too because they speak French), whereas Belize and Guyana are not because they speak English and Dutch.

The black Irish were exactly the reason why the Anglo Saxon North Americans refused to classify the Irishmen as fully whites along with the Spaniards, Greeks, Southern Italians and Sicilians (the Northerners insted were) and East Europeans according to the Immigration Act. Technically speaking anything descending from the Roman such as italians, Spanish etc are latino and even the Romanian. True european latino are white. The original european, first european are the iberians of Spain. The Basque and the Catalan tribes are the Atlantians; the Roman stumbled upon the iberian people and found the iberian people to be the Hebrew Celts and named the iberian as the Celtiberian. The Americano original tribes are the native indian as the Basque are the original white race of european. Yes there are white Hispanic as well as mestiso Hispanic which is a mix of european with the native. Not all Hispanic have european blood or a small percentage of european blood. Genetically speaking, those from the Levant (Iraqi, Lebanese, Jordanian, Palestinian, Syrian, etc) and North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia) are not really ethnic Arabs, but they were Arabized people, which means the ancestors of these people have adopted Arab culture and language and embraced Islam as their religion. But genetically speaking, they are still a continuation of their ancestors. Iraqis and Syrians are still of Assyrian and Chaldean roots. Moroccans and Algers are still predominantly Berber. Egyptians are still related to Ancient Egyptians. The only true, genuine Arabs, racially speaking, are those from the Arabian Peninsula. United statians (cause they’re not the only “Americans”) have a total misuse of the word latino because the original latinos are the Italians therefore al pacino is latino, i think they use it to refer to native Americans of Latin American (brown latinos/mestizo) countries to make them seem more like outsiders because they definitely dont want to call them what they actually are which is native Americans, because a karen is more likely to say “go back to your country” to a native latino than one with more spaniard blood, in my opinion latinos are anyone of cultural or ethnic origin in southwest Europe, france, italy, spain, brazil, quebec, Italian new yorkers, mexican, peruvian etc are all latinos because they usually have all these in common: Catholic church, kisses when meeting, speak with your hands and lots of emotion, take a lot of pride in cooking and making food, all of that is found throughout the whole latin world

Like it or not, Latin culture emerged in Europe, in the Euro-Latin countries, which have their roots in the Roman Empire, where Latin was spoken and where the term "Latin" comes from. It then expanded to the American (and even African and Asian) territories (because of colonization), and today it has merged and twinned with native cultures, creating people who are hard-working, happy and full of passion. So stop trying to link Latinidad with one color, because it has many.
