What Gina said about not being taught spanish because she was being "protected" made me cry. That is exactly what happened in my family. I feel like I dont fit in any of the boxes. Not that it's a bad thing but it's painful. To feel like you don't belong enough to your own culture is painful. I feel too American for Latino. And too Latino for Americans.

People here are just mean. Usa has one of the highest mental illness rates among any country. Dont let it eat at you. Im irish german american and i married a peruvian. Over the 15 years that she has lived here, we have had experiences. One i could tell you. Is that my kids were 3 and 7. We went to firehouse subs to eat and my wife is talking to me about what she want to eat in spanish. And this lady just goes nuts. She looked right into my eyes and told me to go back to cuba. Thats how stupid people can be. We sat down and the lady making the sandwich came over to our table to apologize for the other customer yelling infront of our kids.

I identify as a very Proud American Muslim who happens to be White, Black, Hispanic and Asian and loves her country and her people very very much. Both my parents are immigrants from South America and I was born here, but Spanish was my first language. I'm so thankful for my Hispanic culture cause I've experienced so many beautiful things through it. I'm also thankful for being American cause there's so many opportunities, freedom and diversity of other cultures here. I've never felt or experience any discrimination or racism, but I have felt pressure to make sure I spoke my Spanish well so I can sound Hispanic enough to my Spanish speaking family here and in South America, and speak my English well too. I've always felt proud of being part of two places and embraced it. I grew up in a very diverse city and schools. I've never felt or been told there were any barriers I couldn't cross cause I was Latina. My dad worked hard when he came here and still does. If I learned if I wanted something I needed to put the work and time in.

@@Tritone The Latino identity, instead of "Latin American" was invented by Mestizo Frank del Olmo about 25 years ago. He even fooled the U.S. Census Bureau into adopting the "Hispanic-Latino" term to identify the Ethnicity of the Spanish-speaking people of the Americas. First of all saying Latino/a when speaking or writing in English is grammatically incorrect-should be LATIN masculine and feminine.. Secondly, Latin only refers to Latin languages and Latin Culture. Both Romans, both Italians. These are the Latins: Italians, French, Romanians, Portuguese and Spaniards and have been Latin for more than 2000 years. Nobody can change it. Frank del Olmo should have inquired about the real meaning of Latino/Latin before trying to pass it as an Ethnicity for Spanish-speaking people.- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oN9xnaplzbbHm3U.html

I was born and raised in Switzerland but the Swiss people don't see me as a Swiss. Only ethnically Swiss are seen as real Swiss in Switzerland. In the US or in any country of Latin America you get automatically citizenship if you are born there, but this isn't the case in Europe. Your nationality isn't always of the country u were born in. Look how many children in the UAE who were born there still don't have Emirati citizenship and some even had to leave the country once they turned 18. It isn't as easy to understand as you'd like to thing.

Being a Latino seems to be hard to understand to non-Latinos. Including Americans who think they are Latinos because they have a parent. It's true that you don't need to be born in Latin America to be a Latino, but it is also true you don't need to be born in Latin America and have Latino parents. No one is born a Latino, you become a Latino. And the way you become a Latino is simple: you participate and celebrate our culture. You embrace our traditions and customs. You might be an American with Latino roots. You might feel confused, but the Americans are confused too. We have all kind of people in Latin-America. We have all the skin colors and races, Latin America is diverse. We have Australians, Asians, Middle Easterns, Russians, Africans, Canadians and all of them are Latinos for they decided to embrace our culture, it's just that simple.

I ask muself the same question. I see those people as Americans. Having some family roots to latin American countries does not makes those people automatically part of a « latino » identity.., this is pure multiculturalist brainwashing... this idea that we should be reduced to what our ancestors were for eternity. If these people are living and born in the US, have english as main language, have adopted American mindset about races as it seem they have... there definitly are not latin/latino anymore... Being latin is a bout having a culture that is rooted in the latin (romance) languages, countries of roman cultural heritage... we are far from this with these people who seem totally assimilated to USAmerican culture, an Anglo-saxon culture...

So true born/growing up in the USA Not because I'm an American my life is alot easier. Not because I'm Mexican means I immigrated to this country. Most "Americans" see me and assume I came to this country as a baby. I honestly don't care anymore, heck I even enjoy telling people my Journey crossing the boarder ( yes I lie to people, I'm just done explaining that I was born here) people don't know that I'm just telling them my mother's story. My family and even coworkers that were not born here in the USA say oh you an American life is alot easier for you, no is not easy, we struggle to better our selfs and lifes too.

You bet! Another example: Japanese a Chinese and a Korean are they Asian? Absolutely! What about a Mexican a Brazilian and an Argentinian are they American? Think about this…… of course they are. If you were born in any country in the Continental Americas you are always American no doubt about that. So stop referring to people that live in the 50 states as the only Americans, they are US citizens. Therefore every Latino Lan X Hispanic or whatever you wanna call yourself is an American

What the USA considers HISPANIC are actually Native Americans who were robbed of their original languages and were made to speak the European language of Spanish. And that magically made them Hispanic? No. When Africans speak English after colonization they are not British. People from America are Americans and most speak a European language called Spanish. In the United States, citizens believe that Hispanics will always migrate to the U.S. and this in 10 years, will not continue, GAME OVER. the subordination of the economy from Mexico to Argentina will turn to Asia Pacific, which will be equivalent to 60% of its income and relations with the U.S. will fall to less than 30%, but it is expected that relations with the U.S. will continue to strengthen, but Latin America will be China. They do not see how China helps to build ports, roads and collaborates in the modernization of Hispanic cities, they are looking again to activate the intra-country movement of goods, money and people freely from one country to another.
