I think porygon would be pretty easy. It’s got recover, psychic moves in a gen full of Poison types, ice beam/blizzard (in a gen full of flying and ground types), is a normal type (arguably the best type in gen I), gets two boosting moves by level up. I understand he's not great by any sense if the word, I can't help but love his design, his ferocity in the anime, and the conceptually cool move pool he receives. Seriously, look at it. X-scissor, Drill Run, Poison Jab, Fell Stinger: if we had a trainer in the anime who's primary pokemon was Beedrill (and they weren't treated as a joke), I believe there is a lot they could do with the design and style of his moves.

Beedrill got slammed as a bad mon, but honestly, he was always my go to for dealing with psychic grass and poison. A lot of friends couldn't grasp how I was perfectly happy taking beedrill into the elite 4. He ain't super strong, but he's stronger than the credit he's given.
@youtube-kit945010 ай бұрын
Well, Beedrill *is* a bad mon. It just is way better than anywhere else (aside from gen 6 with its Mega, arguably) in R/B's Kanto because of bug being super effective against poison, which turns so many neutral/NSE matchups into suddenly being super/doubly super effective. A fifth of the pokémon in gen 1 is part poison type, and Beedrill is the one Pokémon with a good STAB bug move. Thus, I'd absolutely understand anyone taking Beedrill in R/B PvE. if you pick Beedrill, might as well do it there to maximize its potential.

I actually want to see a scyther run. He is a pretty strong bug pokemon, and you don't see it very often.
@yaboidragonitehere11372 жыл бұрын
He is pretty good. But the problem with Scyther is that it's movepool is pretty barren. Lacks coverage against Rhydon and Golem

I know the whole point is "just" a beedrill, but would be interesting to know how much doing the evolution line would help. i.e. Having both poison sting and harden in the early game.

@SoraDonaldGoofy992 жыл бұрын
You actually can't get Harden by level up in the Gen 1 games unless you start with it as a Metapod or Kakuna. Except in Yellow, but that only happens with the Butterfree line.

I'm really curious about how well Tauros might do. Edit: I took it upon myself to try Tauros. With a very unoptimized run, and not exactly minimum battles, I managed to beat the game at level 58, at 6 hours, 22 minutes.
@Machoke.2 жыл бұрын
Id be curious as well. Tauros is amazing in gen 1 OU obviously, and has a good movepool. Teach it body slam, earthquake, blizzard/ice beam and t bolt, and you’ve got great coverage
@Skarfar902 жыл бұрын
@@Machoke. That's exactly what I did. The main problem with Tauros, in a speedrun sense is getting past Brock early on, due to Tauros only knowing Tackle. Being in the slow level up group is also a downside. Jrose also has a Tauros run on the channel where he explained the downsides. He did manage a much better time than the one I got, but I am sure that if I re-did Tauros, I could get a similar time, or even better if I gave it my best. In short: You can't get through the game before Brock with minimum battles, but after that, you can pretty much do it.
@Machoke.2 жыл бұрын
@@Skarfar90 Brock really makes it or breaks it it seems in the early game
@Skarfar902 жыл бұрын
@@Machoke. Indeed. Though, there are certain normal type pokemon that can get past him early on. Snorlax being one of them, due to starting with Headbutt, which is twice the power of Tackle, and he's got lots of HP and a high attack stat. Also, getting past Brock can also come down to RNG, if let's say his Geodude only use defense curl, it will be way more difficult for a Pokemon knowing only a single-turn move. Onix is much easier to deal with, unless you get unlucky with Bide, or many screeches

I was glitching Pokémon Yellow recently. I captured Lickitung using trainer fly glitch just to find out it was pretty pathetic - I wonder how it'll do in a single Pokémon run :) Do you plan to do such thing with this licking tongue?

Congrats on the practical use of Gen 1 rage. FTR it's also useful against Brock in solo Kangaskhan runs, as Scott has shown us. I wonder if there are any other extremely specific uses for that terrible move.

I actually used Beedril as a kid once to do a lot of work, and some solid work it did do back when Bug was super-effective against Poison. If only GameFreak had considered making one of the only things that could do work against Psychic substantially available to players in a generation where Psychic was OP...

I really think he should've gone for hyper beam. While it costs a lot of in-game time, it makes the fights a lot more consistent and let's him beat the game at a lower level. Especially since having less in-game time while resetting a ton is kinda miss leading for how much real game time he needed
@justanothercommenterwithan90892 жыл бұрын
Ok but it would likely cost over an hour of in game time and in addition if he wants to buy them he would have to grind in the elite 4 for money which would level him up anyway
@adrienneladd83752 жыл бұрын
focus energy does have a use in gen one, not necessarily a good use but i could see a case of using it to cut your crit chance if you've used a lot of set up moves since crits ignore stat changes
