Matt, I think your main pain here was not meeting the requirements for each coaster. Different coasters require different things to be present to get their full excitement; not meeting the requirements usually halves the excitement rating (and intensity and nausea, weirdly). For example, you can meet the requirements for a corkscrew coaster with just one half of a corkscrew, but you need a big drop for a hypercoaster. This is true of all tracked rides as well, not just coasters. Pretty sure that was what was happening with your launched coaster pair. One of them met it's requirements, the other didn't. So even though they were identical, one had 6 excitement and the other had around 3. Because it's stats were halved!

Not 100% sure, but if I'm remembering correctly, you can build coasters in those rock faces, and the coaster uses the rock as support... that way, coaster pieces don't cost as much, and you get great excitement value going in and out of rocks! Would love to see you try again! 😁

If you're interested, Marcel Vos has done this exact challenge and it is doable. Also, Im pretty sure the rollercoasters unlock in a specific list, not randomly.

Its because of ‘stat requirements’. Basically every coaster has certain requirements and if not met the ratings are sometimes halved, sometimes even divided by 4. The specific requirements and ‘punishments’ differ per coaster type

Just reading the title, I thought this was a Marcel Vos video, because he does videos in Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 that pose _these exact sorts of questions._

This is one of my all-time favorite games (well, RCT 1 is). The fact that you're playing them is genuinely the best thing. I can't speak for anyone else but I will always watch these, no matter how silly they are.

Please do more! Just *maybe* do a bit of research before the next one so you aren't mostly in the dark. This game isn't exactly known for telling you where you went wrong or why. BUT, messing around is half, if not most of, the fun!

I'd love to see another attempt at this!~ Grew up with these games!~ I remember spending months making a massive roller coaster in sandbox, that was like 300 mph at its slowest point, and it lasted like.... 12 and a half min for the ride. (Or might've been 100 mph... whichever the speed cap was, it hugged it) XD (There were no survivors beyond the station launch) But yeah, would also be a challenge to build these without deleting any parts too. Keep up the great work! (And looking forward to more of your Minecraft playthrough too, as well as more of this!)

The reason the stand up one has a low excitement is because of the red vertical g’s. Any red number lowers the other values, a lower speed to lower the g’s may have made the difference

Funny how we came up with the same solution. When I was younger I loved this game so much. And I would boost them with barrels! Also tunnels and going underground for more excitement! Much love dude!

The looping coaster is also the strongest shape! Also I haven't played the game in ages, but could you build on the higher areas to get free momentum to not need as much chain lift for speed?

I love this sort of challenge video. It really breathes life into games. I hope this does well so we can see more of this from you. I think this experimental style works well but I would watch you try this again learning from the comments and perhaps after a little research.

Hey Matt the researched coasters are not unlocked randomly. Each scenario has a specific order that they unlock in.

In the future if you weave the roller-coasters in and out of each other, like make a loop and thread another coaster through the loop, it will increase the excitement.

Some rides have certain requirements that need to be filled. E.G. that rollercoaster that had 3 exitement despite neighbor having 6 might have had other requirements=stats/2

you could have build the coasters, saved them, and build them in another try, therefore saving money on trial and error as well as interest.

10 coasters with excitement rating 6.0 is pretty easy. For anything with a powered launch mode you can just do a simple shuttle loop design and stick next to another powered launch mode coaster and put them in synchronized station mode. Synchronized station mode gives an excitement boost as well as the excitement boost of having nearby rides. Open RCT changed synchronized station mode so that stations can be a couple tiles apart which makes placing you entrances, exists, and paths easier. Scenery and paths add excitement. An easy excitement boost is just to build a path over the station. Also doing multiple circuits raises the excitement because your raising the ride time. Every track ride has a set of secret minimum requirements that must be met or the stats will be cut in half for each condition you fail to meet. (so missing 3 conditions would be 1/8 penalty). It's usually something simple like have a drop of x meters, have a top speed of atleast xm/s, have x inversions, have x vert/lat Gs, or be atleast x meters long.

You should have used those big terrain blocks to your advantage - put the stations at the top & massively reduce the amount of chained track you need. Drop the track off the edge straight away & just have a bit of chain at the end to get back up. Also, you can get all kinds of free bonus excitement by having them weaving through both themselves and the other coasters. I'd bet you only needed to research a couple of new coaster types to achieve your target.

launch coasters, returning to the start after too high of a hill, and having 10 of them linked together, was fun to build as a kid, and was rather cost effective, too. i always had an issue of making them too extrema, and getting more than 10g around some of mu corners... launch coasters kept my parks open :P

I just thought of what might be the coolest coaster ever if only a true engineer would tackle the challenge. Build a hanging coaster and a traditional coaster the run parallel to each other. The tracks and cars opposite each other and taking the same path.

As a min-max idea since you need to have time running for research, probably take the loan out in increments so the interest is a bit lower overall.
