I have been hit by Simon's Exodia. I was about 5 when this game came out. I'm pretty sure I cried for a while. This game felt like a kick in the balls in 2002.

@Jon_Oh he has to get in in his first couple of hands to avoid playing one of the pieces. I would assume that's why it's possible because it's usually a turn 0 kill. A short Google search can back up my claim. Considering RNG manipulation can force certain opening hands, it's probably not hard to recreate.

55:00 To add some trivia onto Kagemusha of the Blue Flame: it's technically the first Six Samurai/Shien monster ever printed, in the OCG anyway. Its name translates to "Shien's Body Double" and both Kagemusha of the Six Samurai and Shadow of the Six Samurai - Shien call back to it. Quite a heritage for an uber weak super early vanilla!

The simple immediate way to tell if a monster has the secondary fire typing is if its first guardian star is Mars, as Mars is the stand in for Fire in the alignment system that the early handheld Yugioh games used (which Forbidden Memories mostly copied, with it just changing it to "Guardian Stars" and altering the mechanics to have an alignment advantage give 500 Attack/Defense points rather than instantly kill the disadvantaged monster). The other Guardian Stars are stand ins for the following alignments: Jupiter -> Forest Saturn -> Wind Uranus -> Earth Pluto -> Thunder Neptune -> Water Sun -> Light Moon -> Fiend Venus -> Dreams/Illusions Mercury -> Shadow Once you realize this, it becomes much easier to remember the Guardian Star advantage chart (as it now makes sense), remember fusions based on secondary typings that rely on these alignments for fusion and equip purposes (such as non-Pyro Fire monsters, and Shadow Sorcerers for the Ushi Oni fusion), and it (mostly) makes more sense which Guardian Stars each monster has.

Honestly the equip card spam at the end is very nostalgic for me because when I beat the game ages ago it was equip spamming Summoned Skull since it has a TON of equip cards it can use, it's why I'm really looking forward to the fiend run, Summoned Skull is definitely going to be an MVP in it.

Fun fact: At the current moment you can play Fireyarou in duel links, it's part of the "noodle art" strategy in rush duels. It's one of the better monsters in the deck because of its relatively high attack as well of his typing/attribute and him being a normal monster all being relevant.

@@Jon_Oh A Wall with a Couple Equips can do the Trick, although Stop Defense and Raigeki are gonna be the Biggest Issues aside from running out of Hand Room as you draw the Pieces.

I agree to this. At least a set of Shields and Labyrinths. That is the problem when the game doesn't have something to search the deck\discard the hand in the same turn...

@@ManoShu Especially in the Final Six where he'll have to worry about Raigeki and Stop Defense from Heishin or having to make a Labyrinth Strong enough to Block an Ultimate, but that in turn would make it Vulnerable to Crush Card.

I always wondered why the pyro type was ever created, since the FIRE atribute exists. Every pyro card could be another type entirely and just have the FIRE attribute. Vermillion Sparow? Spellcaster. Hinotama soul? Fiend. Flame Cerberus? Beast. etc etc. This applies to Aqua and WATER as well. But I guess that's what makes YGO and thus Forbiden Memories so unique :] Also the duel against Kapura was funny, true a back and forth duel.

Yes! He’s back! Hope you had a good new year. This was a super fun run to watch. I’ve never been Exodia’d by Siamun but Heishin 2 has once ever. One of the only times I have ever rage quit a game because I was into double figure final 6 attempts when that happened lol. But Exodia win con deck sounds miserable in this game so good luck when you get round to that one.

@@hippopolove Stone D is much harder to get and weaker than Sand Witch/Mystical Sand which actually can be obtained with B/C/Ds, and from generally easier opponents. And for god knows what reason it costs 400 more Star Chips.

Didn't get exodia'd by Simon, BUT, I happened to get another very mega lucky thing happening to me. I beat Jono 2nd in the first battle against him to unlock him in the Free Duel, he dropped a Meteor B. Dragon. Suffice to say I freaked out. (Drop rate is 0.38%)

I think i might have gotten exodia'd once but my memory is foggy. I feel Iike almost lost the duel, pulled a fusion out of my backside and was like "If i lose, im quitting..." Only to be exodia'd within his last like 1-6 cards and of course he immediately drew it. I played this game like people played ff7 growing up. The art and music really pulled me in.

@@Jon_Oh I don't think you'll have any serious difficulties after already having completed hard runs such as the ritual or the sea serpent run! I can't think of a decent winged beast other than Crimon Sunbird - but then again, a card with 2300 base ATK probably beats a lot of the other types

After seeing that one duel where fire eye got boosted to 3,800 Atk, it makes one wonder if it’s possible to win (or how far one can go) with a deck of under 1,000 Atk Monsters. Edit: I call it the Pheasants Gambit Deck.

Kinda shocked to see how many equips fire eye can take, never really given it a chance as anything other than flame cerberus fusion fodder. Never realized how few pyro cards there really were, probably because so many of secret type cards count as pyro. Given how frustrating this game can be it's kind of cathartic to see it all burned down. You know, after all that fire the soil is likely pretty rich, maybe time for a plant run? (:

Can't believe that I just discovered your series Yesterday and I already watched everything! Keep up with this series please! I'm learning a lot about this game (one of my favorites) with you As suggestion, you could do a run with machine monsters! I know sebek drops a Metalzoa but I was never rewarded with one for me, even after 900 duels... For me it is the most difficult drop by far

To answer your question he actually Exodia'd me on turn 4, I was just a kid and literally had ZERO clue what just happened and it went on my shelf. Only recently nearly 22 years later I realized how much of a broken mess this game was and realized "Oh I just got cheated" lmao that was the day "Screw this guy in particular" was added to my list of phrases.

To add to the Phoenix discussion: "Death Phoenix: Avatar of Doom" was released for a Duel Masters movie, which referenced *Mega Man Battle Network* of all things in its opening. It is also a Giga-level Battle Chip in Battle Network 5. Interestingly, Knightmare Phoenix is a Link monster, and the Link era introduced the Cyberse type, alongside an anime that had a theming about networks/technology/"links" between people... Which is very much in line with Battle Network's aesthetic and concepts. I'm not saying Joey is *right* about the whole conspiracy thing, but all this makes you think... 🤔

Nice one! I love the broken quantity of equips. I'm doing a Female run myself and having trouble into ATECing for magic/equips. They just don't drop! By the way, although it's not a rule, those secondary pyro card all have Mars as first Guardian Star. Mars relates to Fire, and in a sense, all cards that have that option are aligned to Fire (although it doesn't mean all get fire equipping cards, due to Konami's randomness). Nice video! Looking forward to seeing the next!

Good luck with A-Tec, it's a punish but persistance with pegasus will get you what you're looking for. Hope you're using a Rank Calculator to work out when you can end the duel early. And obviously using trap cards boosts your score exponentially. And point taken with the Mars star, most of the game equips were sloppily put together based on guardian stars i believe

I remember being home sick from school for like 3 days straight and I went back to play this on my original PS1 and Simon pulled out an exodia while I was trying to get a thunder dragon practicing the fusion pieces on how to do it the best way. Only problem in that logic is that 200 wins = 1000 _games_, rather than _losses_. 1000 games at 2.5 min apiece would take 41 hrs and 40 min.

Seeing Flame Cerberus do so much work at the end was nice to see. As a kid, that was the card I relied on the most. Although I never got through the tournament arc when I was younger, that card still ended up as one of my favorites from this game.

To say this game hates the player is the mother of all understatements, just chalked up my 302nd win against Jono 2nd and still no Meteor Black Dragon. To add insult to injury he's dropped "left arm of the forbidden one" 5 times which has same drop percentage as M.B.D🤣😖😭 Loved the story in this episode with Heishin the fireman, doesn't that technically make him the good guy in this story.😂😉
