I'd highly recommend using sodium silicate on the concrete too while the concrete is still 'drying'. It takes longer than you think for all free water in the concrete to react. Sodium silicate penetrates the pores to react with remaining water to form calcium silicate hydrates. Makes it much stronger and to a degree stops water ingress by sealing concrete pores.

Maybe next build, something like one of the hammer strength chest or back machines?

Nice idea and nicely done. But I honestly think these blocks will start crumbling really quick if you leave them like that. I once made some concrete dumbbells myself and despite giving them a thick coat of some robust paint the edges startet crumbling and slowly breaking up the whole thing. Of course ist cheap and it does it´s job but in consideration of the work it isn´t worth it.

yeah absolutely. I will do some more things to them to get them to survive better, but theyll probably break eventually. You definitely dont interact with these weights in the same way you would dumbbells or regular weight plates. You dont have to touch them at all once theyre on the guide rods. Some rubber inbetween each plate should be enough to lower a lot of wear

Did you add glass fiber as well to reinforce the concrete? I bet that wpuld help it not flake and crumble

I’ve thought about concrete stacks for many years but never tried to make one. Will they crack eventually? Probably, but they are so cheap to rebuild it doesn’t really matter. Maybe some more mesh inside and maybe adding fiber would help too. One way of using concrete in a weight stack system I thought about was to build a metal carriage with shelves where you could add concrete weights by hand. The carriage would be on rollers so it would be smooth and the concrete weights never bang against anything so they wouldn’t break and you still get most of the cost savings from not having the dead weight being out of expensive steel.

Thats a good Idea but I wonder at what point would it be worth it to just go with a metal stack?

@@solomonmachine2137 depends where you live… I’m in Hawaii so getting a metal stack is not practical because of shipping costs…

If anyone doesn't want to make the weight stacks you could possibly use concrete pavers from Lowes in the garden department

Amazing vid!! I just tried this out myself in my 12m³ student appartment, turned out pretty ok! Only problem I had was removing the middel pipe (PVC). I used w40 to keep it from binding. Any tips to make the removal easier?

Awesome video brother! You just have so much more options when you're able to cnc some metal and weld ;-)! Arent you afraid of the concrete cracking over time? That is why I made a weight stack out of wood. If you're interested, please check it out on my channel!
