Bought my car $1600 (today worth way more) Want wheels but not shit -$2000/$3000 Want adjustable coils, but never made for this car. Piecing it together online - $1600/$2000 And car has a weird issue that has me damn near rebuilding the whole damn thing. My advice, just keep it very clean. Build a relationship to the task that brings pride as its this that keeps the dream real. 3 years going strong, no wheels or springs yet...

9600GTMAN This is why you buy the best fit for a budget. If 10%-20% of income saved is needed for living, then your car will need to be at least 2%-4% under the cars actual budget so funds will actually appear for mods. So far my 2% has gone to repairing fabrics, paints, aesthetics like the mirrors and all has halted till its running. Its my system to ensure the build gets done.

It's not hard to build on a budget as long as you do the homework. Research, research and research before making a game plan. Think twice, buy once. Prioritize. If you really want that wide body, don't blow your wad on something else. Research, prioritize, plan, execute.

Just buy the expensive things first so then u dont have to save too much money to buy the cheaper things. (Im not saying u should buy all the expensive things at once). I did that with my console when i was 13 and im doing it now with my computer (im building one, also im reworking my room). When i have a good job i would buy a bmw, audi, mercedes or maybe a mitsubishi eclipse (the gts version but i would swap the engine). Bmw im considering a 330i or ci e30 or e46 (i dont like the e36). Audi probably an a3 or a4 2.0T or maybe a V6 if i find one at good price, but i dont really like the old audis cause the hard maintenence because of the engine position. And mercedes... I dont know, im not a big fan of mercedes, i mean not the ones i can afford xd. I think that the eclipse, or maybe a lancer gt (the last gen is my favourite). I dont think in honda or vw cause all of the owners thinks they have a ferrari, u just hace to look at the prices. Anyway, i think im moving to usa after university, or maybe before, cause i heared that usa airports needs mechanics and im having the tittle the next year

I'd just like to add a few things. 1. Stay single. And if you must have a partner, make sure they're not high maintenance and can make their own money. It might come in handy later on for Christmas or birthdays also lol 2. Related to #1. Don't be silly, wrap your willy. A $16 box of rubbers is a lot cheaper than boxes of diapers and baby formula. Have a good day 😎👍

Building on a budget is the best way if done right. It makes you appreciate the car and the parts SO much more. Because you worked so hard to buy those wheels, or that $1000 exhaust. Rather than the KZfaqrs who get a build done over night and you just think "Yeah, that's a really clean build." You can look at your own and think back to how many hours of labor you put in to get each individual part.

this is a very valid view point, but it doesn't work for everyone. for me, I disagree that going piece by piece is the best way to enjoy something. I saved up all of the money I needed to build my chosen build before I even bought the car, I didn't want to drive around something stock for a year so instead I waited a year to buy the car and then built it all at once over the course of like 2 weeks and im much more happy than I ever was when I had my last car and was trying to buy parts for it I couldn't afford, going to car meets I really didn't belong at because I was so stock. im much happier now that I waited and built it all at once like I always saw people do on youtube / car TV shows. different strokes.

Austin Ballard everyone has different opinions. Some people can’t save up and buy all at once just because of life and expenses on the way. I buy as I go and if I can afford. I save up for my next car part and go on with that. I’m super happy w/ what I’m doing. It’s all preference and what we can do 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think it depends on your age, because if you're a teen living with your mom, you probably cant get much Also your job, because if u live check to check, you can't get much done And inteligence, because if you know what brands are good, you can save money, or even have higher quality And you also need creativity, because if you dont have money, there are some incredible artists who work good with plastidip. Some people remove logos which gives off a cleaner look. Some people 3d print their car parts, like a gear lever

Heres my gripe about budget building. There's not enough reviews of the lesser known products that could save you $. Then you see them bash the top brands that they installed later on?

Maintenance and keeping it classy & clean go soooooooooo far. I spent so long fixing rock paint chips and fixing previous owner's curb rash on every single wheel (thanks bro). I would also say some of the smaller things are underrated. I noticed a huge increase of people coming up to me about the car when I redid all the lighting. Swapping headlights/tails/side markers/turn signals/fogs and making them all the exact same color temperature did so much for the car. Just have a vision for what it's going to be like when done and put real effort into the actual car. I also save sooooooooooooooooo much money doing my own maintenance, which can be dumped back into parts. If you research research research it can be done cheaply and easily. Hell, I didn't even take shop in school. I didn't figure out I wanted to be a car guy until about three years ago.

I've built on a budget on my car. Hardest part is finding stuff for my car as they dont make anything for it (Suzuki Forenza/Optra/Lacetti) So more custom work was done on it to make things work and stand out. Although, in the end I appreciate the work done afterwards because the car looks more unique In a car that was suppose to look stock in a sense. I always waited on discount or sales to pickup parts cheaper(Ex: picked up KYB struts for $186 for all 4 brand new and Apex springs at $100 less or visiting junkyards) I was always being patient in building the car and it was worth it every step of the way.

Its really easy to do simple and effective modifications on a budget. First thing anyone should do if you bought an old beater is tidy up the bodywork. Smooth out the dents, patch the rust, redo the clearcoat (or just get it resprayed). Most cars looked really good off the showroom floor, so if you do nothing else, restoring say a 20 year old Civic or Corolla to showroom state will be half the battle. It's easy to do simple things like tasteful car seat covers if the seats are a bit worn or faded and replacing the stock wheels with something that suits the car. Making it look new and like the owner (you) takes pride in it, will give you so much satisfaction to drive. You'll think, "yeah, that's my baby! She may be a bit older and not as quick as she was in her youth, but she scrubs up real nice, and she's trustworthy and reliable". I know Fitment are a wheel & suspension company, but you cannot understimate the power of a fresh coat of paint and smooth body panels. If nothing else, Restoration should be step 1, then you feel like you have accomplished something.... you can fiddle with suspension, getting stylish wheels, bodykits/skirts etc getting the base looking good is paramount!

I'm semi-retired and spend the days either working on someone's paint or restoring vintage machinery. Use tools every day. Came across a video a few days ago showing best tools for DIY. Well, most of the tools shown are rarely used by yours truly. The host failed to ask the crucial question - what are you trying to DIY? Same goes for modding your car. Ask yourself what you're trying to achieve. Do you want a show car where the cosmetic aspect is paramount, or are you building a machine that's quick point-A to point-B? Maybe you'd prefer to have a more fun daily driver. All this will guide your mod path and ultimately save you a bunch of cash.

Really really enjoyed this one. lol Very sound advise imo. You broke down the key points really well. I think Fitment Industries web sight could help a great deal as well. Tons of rides to look at and info on mods done too. Priceless!! Putting in the time to do the research is hug. Seeing what others have done will give you the insight needed to know what might work best for your ride. It's all about the image you want to convey about who you are and your taste in a ride. Thanks for taking time to get back to the basics. You hurt a couple of feelings too lol. The truth hurts. I wish I had a vid like this when I was starting out on my first ride. Easy thumbs up for me. 16 year olds are only worried about wheels and cutting their springs. You failed to mention, the best way to make your car look actually clean is paint correction, claybar'ing your vehicle to remove stuck on contaminates, and then buffing and polishing your paint to showroom shine. That instantly will make your car look 10x better, and especially if your car is 10+ years old, it will stand out way more because it looks like brand new paint if you actually take your time with the buff and polish. It's hilarious how many dudes that want to "build" their cars don't even wax or use protectants on their paint... they just go get a 500 dollar crappy maaco paint job every other year instead lmao.

james baker As the broke ass man I am I got smart and started learning autobody. I hope to continue in the future but lets be real, car talk says it all. "Looks clean!" "Yea shes looking wet!" "Super straight". The claybar is an all time favorite! Took a 30 year old car, beaten paint, made it look 3 years old! It made me buy that car a cover. All the paint chips lost the flash rust, and now I polished the exposed metal, on the white paint, hid it so well I plan to leave it as a deliberate patina. Perfectionism can kill us, or we can find ways to be perfect in these inperfections. All real car guys keep it plush. Even the dirt lovers care for their shit! This is keeping it plush yo!

Very important to know your limits and where you want to take your car because I have a $4000 85 GMC that turned into a $40000 money tap. The most important thing is do it out love. And do not abandon your project if you have to let it sit for a couple months without working on it because money is a little tight that's fine you're gonna regret selling it you do.

I'm 16. I've been doing my research for 6+ years lol. 1992 Volkswagen Jetta. Going to put most of my money into Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers. BBS RA wheels for now, then when I convert to Audi TT brakes I'll find some nice 5x100 wheels. Maybe some RE71Rs or RT615K+s. GTX/GLI spoiler. Of course, an engine swap. AAZ. 1.9l turbo diesel from an early MK3 Golf/Jetta. Can easily make 200 hp. And yes, cleanliness and general maintenance come first. I plan to tear everything apart and paint it all. I'm excited.

Part - outs are really good, I got an intake, headers and downpipe for my veloster used for $200. The intake alone was $260 brand new, and the headers + downpipe were $430. I changed out my stock muffler for a smaller one from another car for $40 at a muffler shop. Not sure what I'm going to do next but it's totally possible to get some nice aftermarket parts if you keep your eye out on forums, fb groups, and Craigslist

I live in hungary and here its pretty hard to build when you are younger. My cousin got his license last year, and he also saved up some money. Our grandpa gave him his Lada, (its a VAZ2105) and he bought niva springs for it, cut them, refilled the shocks to make them harder, and got the suspension dialed in. Its on wide steelies, and the whole car is welded out, and painted. It costed less than 1500 dollars, and its looks awsome.

To be honest... it really all depends on what cars you drive. If you buy a cheap car then yes it easy to make the car look good on budget but if you drive a luxury, high-end performance cars, or brand new expensive cars then it not going to look good on budget build. You need think about that as well because most parts aren't available for cheap.
@peterparker9444
@peterparker9444 6 жыл бұрын
Modding your car as a Canadian isn't cheap in any way as for every $1000USD we spend buying stuff from the US it will equate to $1500CAD after shipping, duty, currency exchange and tax fees. I spent over $12,000CAD+ which was probably $8000USD. a decent tire is approx. $1600CAD for Michelin Pilot A/S 3's and add the rims you're in for another $1600-$2000CAD, the price get's higher and higher when you start adding more parts...

Building on a budget takes 2 things: Knowing where to compromise, and patience. Also, the used market helps a lot. I bought a set of used wheels off a Mini Cooper for my Honda, and they were only $125. All I needed was a set of $20 lug nuts and a set of new tires. Yes, they're stock Mini wheels, but they look sharp on my Fit. The rest of my parts I bought I researched brands that I could afford, and found the ones that were good quality (HPS intake, Megan exhaust, Progress rear sway bar, and EBC rotors and pads). All the little cosmetic pieces were cheap enough that I could just buy them on a payday and wait for them to show up. That being said, this is a car 7 years in progress because I have so many other things to worry about financially. I've only spent maybe 2-3k on my car in that time (had a set of speakers installed professionally because I have no idea what I'm doing).

Just takes time we’re all on a budget . I’m 18 got a 2003 Eclipse , 2012 370Z and a 2016 Accord on the eclipse I bought at 16 got Megan racing headers , 3” AEM intake , Greddy RS catback , side skirts , front lip , tinted windows , painted the headlight housing black , hids , XXR 527s , Federal RRs , short shifter , heavy weighted shift knob , D2 coilovers , drilled rotors , performance brake pads Im sure there’s little things here and their Im missing . The accord i got at 17 as a daily so all it’s got done is chrome delete on the exterior trim , tinted windows , h&r springs and that’s bout it , the 370 I got at 18 (like last month) so far have Cb side blades , CC N-1 Full carbon fiber wing . M-Spec shift knob , short shifter , Stage 3 clutch and flywheel , carbon fiber mirror covers and that’s about it right now (I WANT TO ORDER SOME ESR SR08S AND SOME FEDERALS FOR IT BUT FITMENT INDUSTRIES KEEP PLAYING WITH ME RIGHT NOWLOL) (oh and I got a knockoff exhaust based on the HKS hi flow except this one is quiet below 3k once you hit 4K it screams solid sound but upgrading to Motordyne E370 and Art pipes by January hopefully
