They managed to capture the tone of those self important gratuitous documentaries so perfectly. It just goes to show how people can mentally frame something completely idiotic in a played out storytelling structure they've seen that seems novel only because thats the expectation thats been crafted by documentary filmmakers who've used that format in the past.

Ethan Ramirez What I meant is that in the 5 second vaccum cycle, the flush pulls the cake shooting through the length of the fuselage in only 2.5 seconds (if the lavatory is at the front, as the storage tank is at the very back)

They nailed the overly inspirational documentary to a T. Like they got it down to a science, even the cutting establishing shots between dialogue, the overly zestful bouts of laughter, the zooming and focusing camera, the music and the graving random professionals from their jobs and asking them stupid questions. There is a possibility that if you just plonked the cake in the toilet then waited for like a day before flushing it, the cake would go down in a single flush because it would be completely mushy.

Sivosyeah, the icing acts as a water barrier since its mostly lipids (fats, butter) so if they used a cake covered totally in icing, the time it would take for the icing to dissolve would have been a lot higher.

The longer you leave it in the water, the more it will erode as well. So, that variable is also a factor IF they let it rest for a long period between flushes

Depends. I mean, I don't flush cakes down toilets, but I've seen water quickly erode food. Of course the density of the cake would be a main variable in this discussion. Was still an interesting experiment, even if it was a waste of a good looking cake ha

John Cummings well that sort of defeats the purpous, the aim should be to flush it again as soon as the water re-fills, otherwise the variables become blurry... so that is what they presumably did

Probably, where I live the water doesn't refill very quickly, so I'd say a solid 30s before you can flush again. In addition, as they mentioned in the video, water pressure comes into play which also sucks where I live. So, I think if I were to duplicate this, it wouldn't work so well and erosion would come into play more so.
