I'm sure I'm not the first to ask, "Can I leave resin in the vat overnight? All week? How about a month?" In this video, I take a look at my experience with doing just that. Does it still print?

I leave resin in my vat all the time. I've heard people warn about the fep leaking over time but I think feps usally get damaged during printing and cleaning not from just sitting around. I guess if you really wanted to be carefully you could put the vat in a bag or place something between the screen and the vat during storage.

I have only ever had a leak once. It was caused by a little spot where there wasn’t enough tension on the fep. It only started leaking after the fep wore out a bit. I recommend a plastic bag or paper towel under the vat just to be safe, but probably not necessary.

My only recommendation is to get yourself a silicon make up brush to stir the resin. That hard plastic can get little points on it which will can cause Fep issues.

This was good to see. I'm also thinking about putting mine in my garage because the smell is just too strong and lingers for weeks. Glad to see that it prints just fine as long as you make sure to check the resin beforehand.

Just stir it up and make sure you use a soft spatula to "scrape" the bottom.

Ive left siraya tech scuplt in the Mars pro for 3 months and been able to achieve relatively okay results. I left the printer next to my food dehydrator while drying out some filament which warmed up the resin. I then took a paint brush to stir the resin so I had a somewhat homegenous vat of resin. No way I could have even thought about using it without these steps, as the heavier particals had completely separated and fallen to the bottom.

my resin vat pretty much stays filled with resin. I just make sure to mix it thoroughly with a silicone barbecue brush before printing. the bristles make it easier to mix than a silicone spatula.

I have been wondering about this only had my printer a week but i have been cleaning after every print. If i am going to do more then 1 print a day now i wont clean after every print thk you for the video very helpful. Like i saw in 1 of the comments tho i will not leave the resin tray with resin in it for long periods without a top and bottom silicon cover. The fvp can break and the machine is to expensive just to thro away cause i am lazy and screw it with resin.

Leave it in the vat all the time. What I don't use anymore is those plastic scrapers to stir the vat. Get yourself a silicon scraper as it will be softer on your FEP and less likely to be nicked by a small defect in those scrapers.

My guess is just condensation. Either a change in temperature or too hot/cold ambient temperature. The separation may have made the evaporation temperature change.

Hi Kris, Please, please learn from my mistake. Left a half full vat of resin on a Mono X over a weekend. Came back Monday and ran a print but it failed. Tried to remove vat but found it was stuck to glass. There was a tiny pinhole leak in the FEP which had seeped resin everywhere. Moreover the horror gets better. Due to poor design, the resin had seeped into the Mono X, run down the connectors the TFT and MB, wicked into the flimsy ribbon clamps, and pooled in the bottom of the machine. All of which was then partially cured but the UV light bouncing around the inside when I did the test print. I have tried to rebuild the machine, new screen, boards, ribbon cable etc but can't get it working. Seems Anycubic don't have spare parts, and those they do are revised, so new parts don't work with old serial numbers. Basically it is junked. Please check out vids on how to protect your Mono X from leaks (cheap fix) and FDM print vat covers (top and bottom) to allow you to lift the vat off and store it dismounted. Now I run a basic Mono will screen protection and store vats with silicone top and bottom covers. The whole issue is compounded because Anycubic never bothered to make spare Mono X vats in volume. Been subscribed since you started, keep up the good work.

I find the best thing to do before running any print is to lift up the vat and ensure there's no damage to the fep and that there's no resin on the LCD screen. Do that and I bet you'll never ruin a screen.

Is there a cancer concern with prolonged exposure to the fumes when leaving out like this?
@kerseyfabs

I don't know about how toxic these resins are in terms of inhaling fumes. Since each one has a different formulation, please be sure to check with the manufacturer. For myself, I have my printers in a well-ventilated garage.

You can. But it's not a good idea. Air quality, temperature variation effecting the resin, stray UV that the covers don't catch... all of them can effect the quality of prints or health. I'd recommend that you properly empty, clean and take care of your equipment and supplies. A cleanup now is a lot less work than a cleanup, or dealing with toxic exposure later. Lazy is never an optimal solution.

Keep in mind that by the time you go to final cure it, the resin has already been cured by the printing process and it's been cleaned. While I always try to demonstrate the upmost safety, unless you have extreme sensitivity, it's pretty safe at that point.
