This is exactly the information I was looking for. I play games for the story. I currently play ESO solo, for the most part. I will group up to do World Bosses, Dragons and Harrowstorms because they are impossible for me to do alone and I will help others in public dungeons. My biggest fear is just not being good enough to group up with. I'm afraid I'll mess everyone else up. I don't want to be the reason for failing a trial, raid or boss. I recently downloaded FF14 and I'm still learning my first job so I'm likely a ways off from group content there. I do have 780 hours in ESO and I'm just now starting the Blackwood expansion. I find myself needing a break for fear of burnout so thought FF14 might be a good game to switch between.

As someone with social anxiety disorder it's been really difficult to work up the nerve to queue into new raids or dungeons. I just finished the main story of Stormblood and I just wussed out of the Deltascape 4.0 while queueing... really feels bad man. I have had pretty good interactions with other players but it's still hard to just jump into things when there's mechanics to follow and it has to be a group effort where everyone knows what they're doing. I'm never gonna get that Abyssos Guillotine am I? Lol

I appreciate this video so much! When I started a couple of years (and like 4000 hours of playtime lol) ago I was very similar - had no desire to play an MMO, was very nervous to play with others, and started as a tank of all things. It was honestly scary at times - I remember working up the courage just to queue for roulettes, or to do things that were new to me, like the alliance raids. It happened to just be the perfect storm in my case that I ended up loving the game and sticking with it and playing nearly every day since I started. Because my experience with the game was so personal, I think despite the memes where FFXIV players are always trying to get people to play, it's actually extremely difficult to recommend the game to almost anyone because it is such a huge undertaking with both the sheer size of the game *and* the MMO aspects. But it is definitely just like, an experience that I think is just really easy to want to share, particularly *because* it's multiplayer and you can experience it alongside your friends, whether you help them along the way, or just butt out while they play themselves and have their own experience, then bond over it when you're hanging out later. Anyway, again, awesome vid!

I was in the same camp. Honestly. I doubt I would have made it from the whole MSQ if It wasn't so solo-able. Something about knowing that almost everything is on my time without really having to rely on others made it pretty relaxing ^^

Once they make all story dungeons soloable using trust or npc support then it’ll truly be the perfect solo experience.

To me it’s not only the story and the huge immersive world of an MMO, but it’s the fact,, that other players are around you and filling the world and you have the option to interact with them, but I don’t like to be forced to! Like you said, I have my own schedule and I normally don’t wanna play the same game constantly, but jump in occasionally.

Alliance raids are one the funniest contents to do, specially when they're new and no one knows anything lmao It doesnt matter if you a veteran player or a sprout, everyone gets shit on and it's pure chaos, 24 people trying to figure it out the new mechanics! But yeah, most of the content can be played solo, now more than ever with the expansion of the trust system.

Now THIS is an amazing video covering the topic! I actually bought FF14 (not Endwalker yet) but haven't started it yet. I am mainly looking to cover the main story more than anything and the topic of how much I can do solo always worried me. Definitely looking forward to finally playing this one, as I've been trying to finally tank my way through the mainline series since I never played them growing up (except 11, COULD NOT get into 11 unfortunately).

Another great video. I think making the game more soloable will ease people into actually playing with live humans. As you mentioned, you have having fun with players and its good to do that when you want, or not.

Ooh I feel the anxiety expert, I started playing FFXIV way back when Heavensward first dropped. I’ve never played an mmorpg before since they always looked like there was way too much going on. The only reason I started was because my brother loved the game and him and his best friend who had a 2 person FC took me in and literally guided me through every single thing. ARR and HVW I never played without them being online 🤣

If people are worried about being in a group with other players, just remember that if a particular event or dungeon is part of the Main Scenario Quest, then everyone has to complete it in order to progress in the MSQ, so the designers have designed it so that everyone can complete it. It may take a few tries due to a particular boss fight mechanic, but don't worry because you'll get it done.

Yesterday I just had the sweetest coop experience doing 8 people raid with one overpowered dude who as really supportive and patient with me, a level 60 white mage. He carried me through the dungeons so fast, and didn't care I wanted to see the cutscene stories. Such a sweet dude. I don't like playing with other people usually, but I don't know. FF14 players are just nicer somehow.

I am so happy they added Duty Support to the game, hopefully they will get all of the dungeons complete soon :)

I have played all Final Fantasy games excep 11 and 14 because they were the online versions of the game. I suffer cosial anxiety and was put off playing with other players....A few months ago I watched this video and it was enough to finally take the plunge. Such a great video! What's funny is I kind of had a flipped experience. I knew it was an MMO, but I didn't think it would have a rich story (I know, this is a selling point 😂). I guess coming from WoW, I just expected it to be a game that I could log on to, spend some time on, and then leave. So, I viewed the game through a more casual lens instead of a single player RPG experience. I feel like if I had gone into this game knowing I could enjoy a great story and have an experience similar to what I've had playing other Final Fantasies, I would've appreciated it more. Not that I don't appreciate it now! It's really amazing how FF14 has been able to tell its story despite it being an MMO in the conventional sense.

Just the info I needed to want to get back in. Joining this game what feels like a decade ago, queueing up has always been an issue of waiting and then not being able to sit still long enough to play the whole way through. Seeing solo play enabled is big!

As someone who played WoW back in the day, I don't blame anyone for wanting to play solo -- real easy to get burned. FFXIV has a great community, but folks should be allowed to socialize at their own pace.

I'm only about halfway through the video as I type this but I see Estinian as like, the Vegeta of FFXIV tbh 🤣 I loved watching him grow. Same with Thancred, to see him so down on himself after the events of ARR and then over time, truly come into his own, regain his confidence and become a total badass just had me like... Fuck yeah dude, I'm proud of you! My headcanon for Graha is that he's my baby brother, we're both Miqo'te so it works. I see him as my excitable younger sibling. 🥰 And Y'shtola is my wise big sister. 🤣

My issue isn’t playing with others My issue is what if you need to get pass a raid boss to progress in the story and I’m late to the game everyone else already beat it and no one wants to participate in the raid that I need help in Also I’m not that much of a talker so I can be a little awkward in chats

I completed Shadowbringers 2 weeks before Endwalkier released, so Aglaia and Pandemonium have been my first current raids and alliance raids. While dramatically less so, I still tend to get a little nervous doing group content with strangers, but these raids have almost cured me of it. Watching everyone flail around as a group, trying to figure out new mechanics, and dying left and right, I can't remember laughing so hard as in some of those groups. I'm not an MMO player by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm very comfortable in FFXIV now and Eorzea is definitely my new home :)

I played started final fantasy 14 with the same mind set that I didn’t want to play with others and just focused on the story but now the best part of this game is playing with others ive haven’t had this much fun in a game in years 😊

I used to play FFXI and then played a lil of FFXIV but my best friend stopped playing so I did too. Just bought the ffxiv encyclopedias 1 & 2 cause I miss it. Nice to know it can be solo.

Ok. Thank you for the video. It helps a lot. I have the same fears on having to play with other in the game. Main reason. I haven't played any online games or mmo for near 2 decades. Lich king just came out in wow. My main problem is controlling the character and attacking with same hand. When I'm using the w.a.s.d to move around and need to fight I have to use same hand to hit the attack buttons. 1.2.3. Ect. I am so far behind the learning curb its not funny. Story line and watching other videos very fun. Any suggestions on how I can overcome my handicap other then gaming a few thousand hours. And here is a crazy thing I want to do down the road in the game. I want to farm to get the pteranodon mount. I'm trying to research it to learn. The reason I need to do solo is because I’m handicapped autistic and I have a lot of doctors appointments

My problem is not that I HAVE to play with other people. Its the damn wait time for Duties/Instances. I can at most play 1-2hrs a day and some times finding a party for your 1 story walled Inst, can take 40-60 mins. I cancelled my sub because this game became a waiting simulator. (main issue being I work overnight and playing or trying to play in the day-time when most people are not at Home, is a bad mix)

I played slower than you and just completed the msq within the last month after playing for roughly a year. I did a majority of it solo. And loved it. I came over from wow for years so I didn't have that anxiety of group content anymore. I was prepared for more toxic behavior but I rarely ran into it. And now I'm doing the current raid stuff and enjoying it and laughing and helping people with mechanics when they ask. I see you are on Behemoth, we're in the same data center! I'm on Leviathan. Hopefully we cross paths in game one day. I travel to the other servers in our data center frequently these days doing hunt trains for that Sweet Sweet easy poetic tomestones.

Over the years I have thought of jumping back into this game. I started not too long after it came out back on ps3. I know it's crazy to play an mmo and want to just ride solo but I don't want to be a burden to others but the game looks to beautiful to not want to play it. In MMOs i usually main dps classes so i just have to worry about attacking but i kinda liked the Gladiator look and figured what the hell I'll main a tank class and I was doing fine for the most part on the dungeons. Shield Lob, Flash, Flash and was able to get by until Stone Vigil iirc. Got stomped right in the beginning. The other players were super pissed told me to leave. But to be fair I didn't mention it was my first run there and can't remember if I had my green sprout still. But come to find out to properly tank that dungeon I needed to level up thurmage I think? Or something compatible with Gladiator to promote to Paladin to get Shield and/or Sword Oath. I digress I'm just glad to hear you can do most solo now so I'm thinking I may try and get back into it on ps5 but I'll have to start a new account since I no longer have that old psn from ps3 days.

I tend to avoid raids due to not like playing with other people very much. Some 4 people to 8 people dungeons or trials I managed to get by.

The game gets better after ARR. I just joined a free company & I enjoy it a lot so far. The guy who invited me showed me how to get the rising pheonix mount for the rising event.

Man 350 hours for all of it, ive played 320+ hours in the free trial back in 2021 and have just recently returned and going through Stormblood now. Curious to know what job you mained through all that and did you play multiple jobs or just stick to the one?

When I first started playing ff14 I wanted only to play solo, but there really isn’t any way to get around not playing solo. I am getting anxious because I am playing white mage recently but I play dps as my main. I am a level 90 monk and dancer. I am a terrible healer, how can I heal a group when I barely heal myself🤦🏽‍♀️. Though I made it to level 50 white mage. Your gaming set up is awesome!

That is not solo. In the future they want to make all MSQ dungeons, trials, and raids with npc’s. All six games. So ff14 will become the biggest single player final fantasy game.

Omg I still limit all battle effects. It’s awful. When I first started playing the game I could not see what I was doing because I was blinded by all the lights.

Am I missing something? I'm pretty sure you can't do trials with NPCs, with the exception of the level 89 one. So that's a fair chunk of the game You still need to group for. But yeah it's great that you can do all the dungeons with the NPCs even so.

Can you play this solo now to max level? I tried running "groups", but got tired of people rushing at the speed of light and pulling every single thing....

As a counterpoint to all the praise given to the FFXIV community, on my first roulette ever I was badgered into quitting the group and taking the deserter debuff . The tank pulled wall to wall, and my sprout white mage couldn’t keep up with the healing. “Can you even heal?” I was asked. I had just healed a mythic+ 14 in WoW, but didn’t have the knack in FFXIV yet, despite plenty of normal duty dungeons and 8 mans. It shot my social anxiety through the roof. And I slunk back to WoW with my guild I’ve played with for 19 years. There are plenty of nice, helpful people in the game, but it still has its share of jerks.

As expected, husband gets to play on the 27" Display, while wife must do with the 65" TV. :-) I like to play with a friend, so I wish there were an option to play as a duo or trio and complete the party with NPCs. But it doesn't look like they are working on that.

You should also try SWTOR. Its barely even an mmo, more like a SP rpg with some online elements

No you cant you can do desend amount of it solo but overall no .Also most casual and most solo players dont want to raid or have the main story questline be hiden behind it .Also isnt arr only limited to the first 4 dung being soloable with npcs not all others?

Sure you can play it solo but it’s really not worth it you’d be taking out more than half of the actual game.

Thank you for making this video!🥰When I found out about the duty support system I decided to give it a try but I'm still struggling with the group trials and raids that are part of the msq, especially because so far I've only been interested in healer and tank jobs.🥲When I'm doing stuff solo I LOVE the game so much and I can't stop playing, but as soon as it gets to a part where I have to group, I stop playing for days. So far I haven't had any bad experience but I always feel like I'm not good enough for this game when playing in group. I'm still deciding if I want to continue the game. I love my WoL and there are other things I want to experience like the trust system or Island sanctuary but knowing that it is required to complete endwalker msqs to unlock it (which means I have to go through mandatory group stuff) makes me feel kinda hopeless. But like you said, this game lets us progress at our own pace so maybe I just need a long break!
