The biggest myth is that you won’t know what to expect in birth and therefore won’t feel prepared for birth, especially as a #ftm.
I would disagree with anyone who says that.
Before I go into my Friday myth buster for y’all, I just have to say how there has never been a more perfect audio created to describe preparing for YOUR birth.
For some reason, when it comes to giving birth, society has taught us to forgo the confidence we carry in other parts of our lives. We can work our butts off preparing for a test, training for a competition, or even starting a new job. Most of those things require a level of skill and preparation to achieve. Howeve, the most natural thing our bodies can do (with or without our help) is somehow an event that causes us to feel inadequate because someone else’s experience felt impossible.
The truth is this:
While we can’t and most likely won’t feel 100% prepared for birth (or anything in life), you CAN be prepared for how you would like to navigate things and how you would navigate any changes to your birth plan.
I have worked with so many families who come to me scared of birth and then walk into birth with the utmost confidence because they are finally trusting of their bodies to do what they were designed to do.
So, yes. You can be prepared for birth and anyone who tells you otherwise might just be talking about themselves...
Birth is hard, absolutely. Bringing life into this world is not easy (even if your labor didn’t felt smooth). However, we have to remember not to internalize what society is telling us about this experience.
It IS beautiful.
It IS natural (with or without drugs)
It IS physiological (when you allow it to be)
It IS intimate
It ISN’T impossible.
Prepare yourself and surround yourself with people who will educate, empower and uplift you in this journey.
