hi everyone, I hope you like this little fun experimental gameplay/mod idea video. I think running a family business diner out of a sims' house is such a fun idea and I am really excited that I figured out how to basically set it up (whether I can reach rank 1 is another story). In this video I will show you how to transform your sims' houses into home business diners, and try to troubleshoot some errors that come my way and keep my terrible cash flow from sinking any lower! Also sorry for my voice in this video, I am recovering from a cold!

I type "testc" instead of "boolProp testingcheatsenabled true" because I have set up my userstartup cheat file so that I can use the cheat while typing less. There is a tutorial here on how to edit your userstartup file!

I don’t usually love home businesses because it makes all your guests think they’re customers which is a little glitchy! I had a really simple home business for a Sim selling her woodworking crafts just on a couple tables in the yard, but her teens would bring friends home after school and next thing you know they’re complaining to her about the business being out of stock of things, even when it was closed 😭 THAT SAID - this is making me think of how cute it would be to like, build a downtown lot that’s like a little restaurant downstairs and apartment upstairs type vibe, family run and all that. Like a brick apartment building NYC style look. Would be so cute! Also, I like the kind of trial and error style of this video, how we’re kind of all figuring it out together, what works and what doesn’t!

Yes that was my exact idea of how this could be so cute! In a downtown hood in a little brownstone, that would be super adorable! Also I think there is a mod I saw maybe by boilingoil or cyjon that stops guests from complaining when the business is closed just in case you ever play a home business again! 😊

I had a bakery/cafe kind of lot like that, it was a lot of fun! The only thing is that when I play other families I can't visit, it's a bummer

This was so interesting! There's so many things one can do in this game it's incredible. It seemed like it was running fairly smoothly with the guests after you put up the extra fence and gate? In that case it's great because that means that invisible fences and gates can work too and be placed in more awkward places. It was interesting that the guests seemed to want to take showers 🤔I suppose a Need Freak (Boiling Oil) could be used to keep the hygene high while the business is running - but that would of course affect the family as well. It was awesome that the game features were working on the podium and cooktop despite neither of them being meant to be used on a home lot, and that they even spawened npcs without a mod. The university stove doesn't spawn a cafeteria worker on home lots without a mod after all, so it was cool that it worked like that. The only downside to this that I see is that you can't go visit the restaurant with other families, but then again, they can of course come visit while playing the active family instead. Cool experiment, thank you for sharing this ⭐

that's a good idea with the invisible fence! i had been thinking about that too. Would be a good way to block off areas while still making the lot feel cozy and like a real house! Ooh I have actually never tried the need freak before! I wonder if something like the customer selector or controller or whatever that mod is would have an option for sims that only feel hungry coming to the lot but not stinky lolol. Yeah I'm curious to try the visit sims mod so that sims could visit home businesses, i have never tried it and I wonder how it would work with a restaurant. This is a fun gameplay concept! I play a lot with businesses, but rarely home businesses since you can't visit them from other households (or maaaaaybe you could with LazyDuchess' story progression??? 🤔 ) Restaurants are particularly annoying to run since it's hard to make them profitable, my sims lose money on them like crazy 🤣 I loved seeing you play around with the concept though and am looking forward to seeing your secret future plans for it. The little dog "lady & the tramp" restaurant was so cute!

I honestly haven't played a business since the pack came out 😅 I think I had an electronics store home business. I like the idea of a home diner, Sims 2 still has the best restaurant system imo. This makes me wanna try it. Fun video! Nice to see some Asylum folks, lol. Nolan running around the diner made me laugh. It's also in character for him to argue with customers and sabotage the business. And the fire lol, those Christmas trees are deadly 😅

even nolan's clone that i only use for screenshots apparently has the ability to still disrupt every part of my gameplay lol! i have barely ever done businesses either but I really want to try running a family restaurant more, I think with some more tweaking it could be super fun!

Yay I’m glad you enjoyed! And yes I love that hair too lol! I remember it’s definitely a retexture by almighty hat who had it in one of their dumps of medieval hairs. The photos on the post are all still there, when I’m on my simming computer in a bit I can try to find the specific one!

One of my first thoughts when I saw this video was, yay more test neighborhood craziness! Once again, it was amazing. Those video chapter names made me laugh a lot: Wife sabotages me; day 2, disaster; party attempts; eating with hello kitty. And oh my god, I love Nolan2 and Leteita! They even quickly said hi to each other. What is the story behind those two? Unless of course answering would be a spoiler for upcoming stuff, then I’ll withdraw my question. And screw the cash flow, this place absolutely needed a lady and the tramp area! I wonder if this would also work with the Residential Shopping mod by BoilingOil over at LeeFish (I can’t link it because KZfaq instantly deletes my comments every time I try to link to a mod). It makes it so you can buy the maxis community-only objects on residential lots as well. Part of me thinks it would be easier because there would be no need for moving the family out and back in. The other part of me fears some unforeseen Sims 2 shenanigans happening. Also, Lenna9 recently released a new and improved version of the Stay-Things shrub over at Mod The Sims. This video was really great, I never thought it possible to do this on a residential lot!

yayy i'm so glad you enjoyed it, thank you for watching!! 🤗 haha I had a line that i ended up cutting out where i was like i have these asylum copies just for easy screenshots without having to load up my whole asylum hood, but so because of that it's kind of disturbing they're all named like nolan2, solange2 lmao...and apparently Leteitia lol 💀 yeah I am curious about how the modded versions that show up in the catalogue on residential lots would work! i should keep tweaking this and trying different methods. I wonder if you bought them through residential shopping while it was already a home business if you could just automatically click and "be host" etc. Ooh i need to check out the stay shrub edit!!

If you don't want to move a family out of their home, I assume you could have them buy any community lot, buy the items they need there, and then sell it. I have heard that you shouldn't change the zoning on a lot that's already been played.

yeah that's a good idea too! you could probably have any business owner sim put them in their inventory on their owned lot and gift them to the family as well i'd imagine. As far as I know, I think it's ok to change the zoning as long as you move them out first, but I think this can cause issues on apartment lots sometimes if you use the "apartment subzone" cheat or whichever one that is 😅

Actually you don't really have to do that All you would have to do to access the the podium and the kitchen set for the chef all you would have to do is go to the business collection folder that should be within the other collection folders of EAs maxi's items and it will literally pop up in the collection.

Whaaaat! Omg for me the collection folder didn’t have all of the items for some reason so I couldn’t. But good to know hopefully it would be way easier for other people lol 😭

oops, I apologize for not explaining that! I changed my "userstartup.cheat" file for sims 2. Now I can type the cheats more quickly using nicknames like "testc". The full cheat you must type is: boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true if you want to try editing your cheat file to use nicknames like me, I put a link to a tutorial for you in the description! I put a star emoji ⭐ next to the link! 💓
