I had a plant with severe cold damage cause we had a surprise late frost. It was so pathetic and I was sure it was a gone-er. But my late husband gave me advice years ago that has saved many pathetic lives. If you see any green, there is hope. I cut all the leaves off, but there was some green stems left. omg, it looked so pathetic. 😆But a year later, the plant is now bushier then it was when it was frozen. I also had a peperomia that lost every single leaf and it was just a stick with some green at the base of the stick. I cut the stick back to about 3 inches. bare stick. But now, little baby leaves are sprouting on the stick. Never give up! Never surrender! 🤩

My Monstera suffered medium damage in delivery. Didn't realize the damage until 2 days later; now I understand what happened. Learned my lesson: Don't purchase plants in winter. 😞 Now trying to nurse him back to health. Great video!

Whataboutyouman?; I'm hoping you have success in getting your Monstera back in improvement.....My Pothos were seriously damaged by being in the window.....I had to move them into the next room and remove the damaged parts of the Plants..... Hopefully they grow when the Spring season come in..... You can do it.... You only suppose to feed them certain time in the year..... Spring, Summer and maybe Fall.....

Came here because I needed to share this with anyone who is trying to save their plants. I watched this video back in December during a cold snap we had in hopes I could revive my dracena. When I saw the dracena with severe cold damage I thought my poor plant was dead. I was wrong!! Its a Dracena Janet Craig that was thrown outside and spent the night in a snow bank in -15 in Northern Ontario. It came back inside and warmed by the fire then It's spent the last month and a bit living in the bathroom with extremely low light/indirect light and medium humidity and it's put off 2 growth points on 2 of the plants in the pot. I have yet to dead head the stuff that's dead but I needed to share this so if someone is trying to save their plants - don't give up hope. I had a collection of 150 plants and all were exposed to severe cold damage (driven down the highway at 120kph in -15 Temps uncovered in a blizzard) and I managed to bring back a lot of them. Water, patience, prayers/good vibes and imitate their habitate as best as you can.

Thanks for this. I didn't know anything about cold damage. I recently bought a healthy looking zizi plant and took it home in a tram in -10° C. I got it a nice spot by the cold window and by the next day, noticed many leaves have discolouration and are drying up, made me sad. I will follow the steps in this video and pray it comes back to life. Thanks 😊

I’ve had issues with plants in terracotta pots or unglazed ceramic pots getting severe cold damage. I’m wondering if the cold dry air affects plants more in terracotta than in plastic. My assumption is that because moisture leaves terracotta, the heat in the soil is also leaving too.

@Tracy Sullivan Oy vey! Yes.... Thanks for making me aware of this, as I take lemon water straight from the refrigerator, dab a cotton ball or piece of paper towel into the lemon water and squeeze the excess, then wipe the leaves of orchids and other plants leaving them in the path of the indirect, cool draft of the ceiling fan. I should let the lemon water sit until it reaches room temperature before applying the lemon water to the leaves. Either that or pour some lemon juice from the refrigerator into a small bowl of room temperature water then apply the lemon water on the leaves.

@@KT-yu8wj can I ask what is the lemon for ?
@KT-yu8wj
@KT-yu8wj 2 жыл бұрын
@@tracysullivan7913 Sure! My understanding, from the videos I've seen on MissOrchidGirl and other channels, the lemon juice added to water helps to break up wax (leaf shine), fertilizer, and other crud (dust and debris) leaving the leaves healthy and shiny. I've been doing this for a few years now and have received comments on how clean, healthy, nice, and shiny the leaves are on my orchids. MissOrchidGirl cautions us to not wipe the underside of the leaf, but I've wiped both sides of the leaf, especially to make sure pests (spider mites) aren't, or don't have a chance to, proliferate on the leaf. A thought I should implement is to wipe the top of the leaf with a piece of cotton ball or paper towel then grab another piece and wipe the underside thereby reducing the chance of the stomatas (the part of the leaf from which the leaf breathes) becoming clogged with debris.

@@KT-yu8wj Ah thanks for taking the time to explain. Unfortunately I am having to pull everything out of my grow tent my large tank and others throughout the house ( major job ) to kill spider mites, it's great having a big collection but boy I only have two days to get it done, I dont like my chances 😢 Have a great week and I will give the lemon a go room temp. 😉
@KT-yu8wj

@@tracysullivan7913 To kill spider mites, spray a plant with room temperature soapy water mixed with some isopropyl alcohol 70% and a dribble of lightweight vegetable or horticultural oil.

Great job! And the new scenery is a huge improvement in my opinion. I always thought of a cemetery chapel, I must admit. But your content and the way you are providing it was always worth watching the old location ;-) Also, the black shirt does not look the moderating plant guy (very charismatic!) sick or spooky as with the green ones. Regarding the content: I also made the experience with narrow leave dracaenas that they drop all of their leaves when the weather changed and they got a little bit too cold. - not minus Celsius So, no spots to be checked were left :-)

Thanks for the video, Swedish Plantguys. Do you happen to have some orchids in full bloom (phalaenopsis, cattleya, and other orchids found in grocery or hardware stores) with which you can make a video demonstrating how to wrap up the orchid to take it from home to a society meeting, show, or another residence? This would be very helpful. Thanks!

What a timely subject, thank you. I have a very large Jenny Craig in a 14” pot that sits outside in Los Angeles. Normally she does well, but winter night might get to 35F. I lose bottom leaves, they are already brown. I cannot move it, I thought about wrapping in silver Mylar blanket, but I would need ladder. The plant would be fuller, but every winter it takes a ‘hit’ with weather.

Haha, trimmade precis bort 90% av mina nya plantor, dag tre efter köldskada :( Skulle kollat video först! Attans.
