One time, I didn't bring anything. I went to a secondhand store and bought clothes. Washed them. Before I left, I donated them to another secondhand store. Got the tax receipt and wrote it off on my taxes.

Why paying for fees or shipping when you can have the airline CC and check your bag for free?
@ajs1120118 күн бұрын
Exactly. If you travel even a couple times a year, that airline CC may be a worthwhile investment. Sure, you pay the CC's annual fee, but if that saves you from shipping four boxes, you've made that back.
@NextNate0312 күн бұрын
The airline he used charges 35 to do so. That is the whole point of the news story.
@ajs1120112 күн бұрын
@@NextNate03 We understand that. The point that we're making in response to the news story is that there are ways for travelers to avoid that fee, one those ways being getting the airline's credit card. While those credit cards have annual fees, one would think that a journalist likely travels enough to justify the credit card fee because of all the perks that go along with it.
@shermanfolks747712 күн бұрын
@@NextNate03 they're saying if you sign-up for a credit card with the airline you get a free checked bag. Depending on the card sometimes your travel companions get free checked bags as well. Another perk may be you get 3 free bags and you only have to pay for the 4th if for example you have a family of 4.

If control is an issue, why are you less concerned when the airline handles it? They lose tons of luggage every day. You might want to toss a GPS tracker in anything traveling with or without you.

4:55-5:00: Whose attention did you ship the box to at the hotel? Is this part of their service to guests? How did they know to accept the box, and where was it stored? What's the plan if you are unable to keep the reservation?
@ddc16326418 күн бұрын
Didn't say how or what category of shipping that you used. Standard ground, priority, overnight? Also, do you reuse the box and if so that means you need to get to a shipping location before you leave, while on vacation. Plus the rates that you quoted for the airlines, were they the ones that you pay at the airport or what you pay BEFORE & while online, which are often cheaper? So much left out of this report!

If you are going to a casual or active vacation...just buy your clothes there. I take shoes and what I am wearing, and then just grab a couple cheap T-shirts and shorts while there for beach or hiking holidays.

BUY or rent? I wouldn't want to buy MORE clothes when I already have some paid for.

@@Chicago48 the point is that the cost/hassle of taking them there is more than the cost of buying stuff in many locations

@ajs1120118 күн бұрын
It is..... I did that once for a conference. I shipped all my printed materials ahead. It took the hotel two days to find the package, even though they signed for it.
@traysmith19923 күн бұрын
Some things not considered is travel time. A lot of people don’t have the extra 3-5 days for transit. Also, the ending destination has to be considered. Depending on where you’re sending it could get lost once it’s delivered. Finally what happens if your package arrives too early or too late?
@andariegos946613 күн бұрын
When my niece visits me she mails her stuff like a week in advance in a box and jumps on the plane with just a backpack. Then when she’s leaving we stop by the post office on our way to the airport to have it shipped back to her home. It’s still a lot cheaper. I would be on edge shipping it to a hotel or unfamiliar places. Although, the airline has lost my luggage a couple of times. Luckily it’s been on my way home and not to my trip.

international? US to south america???
@lillievalentine880018 күн бұрын
If the cost is not substantially more, you will will also want to check the Airlines baggage rating. If the airline has a bad rating for getting bags to the destination, shipping might be a no brainer. The Points Guy website has a chart ad so does the DOT.

I don't know if he knows or not. But if he was staying on property at Disney World, all packages mailed to the hotel can be delivered to your room before you get there. As a Disney World Pass holder, I've used that service from time to time over the years and it saves you some stress. Either way, I'm never having my luggage delivered, carry on is best for me. LOL

But when you fly international, you get two free check bags, almost airlines and if you’re flying first, if you’re little overweight, they’re not gonna make a big deal out of it do you really need four bags for one person? If so, then you should be shipping your stuff.
